Then it doesn't matter what bank you use in msia,...at any time you want to transfer a sum, convert into GBP and then either TT it over (expensive) or get the bank to issue a draft and carry over, or post it over (cheap)...

No matter what bank you use in msia, you cannot open a UK account easily from msia, will need a letter from your uni before any UK bank opens an account for you....post 911 and London bombing, they are very strict...

Which bank you choose in UK, I would just advise the nearest to where you stay or with ATM in campus...

I did not check the exact figures, but based what you've shown, it sounds right to me.
But do make sure you're checking from reliable source, the link below might help you:
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/syste...ce_Nov_V1_0.pdf

Like some other forumers mentioned, Malaysia right now is under low-risk category, meaning we're not compulsory to submit financial statement as evidence during visa application. But, like what other mentioned as well, they could ask for the statement if they want to, so my advice is, better don't take the risk, make sure you have the money, and get the bank prepare the letter all properly.

I brought it with me during visa application, and also when entering UK, although none of them requested the letter from me yet. But better don't take it for granted.

Of course it is possible, it's entirely up to you when do you want to buy your flight ticket.
And like you have mentioned, there are also risks.

May I know what's the cheapest you can get if you buy now? And how much would it cost to change the date?
Just to see if it's worth the risk or not.

Oh, about the risk, it's just that if *touch wood* your visa application isn't approved in first application, and you need to submit a new application again, it takes time, and it's possible it takes so much more time that it exceeded the date of the flight.
To lower the risk, prepare all the documents including the bank letter which isn't compulsory to submit anymore. Who knows, they might ask for the letter. And apply as early as possible, I forgot how early you can apply before your course starts? Is it 3 months before? Right after you get your CAS statement? Any other forumer here can help to correct this if I'm wrong.

Hope this helps.

Guys I'm planning to go for an exchange at University College Birmingham (UCB) (not to be confused with the more prestigious University of Birmingham).

I want to ask about the financial aspects, such as cost of living at UCB.

What is the monthly cost living in UCB, or generally in Birmingham? I heard its around 500-700 pounds per month?

Thanks!
*
depends really on your rent. Excluding rent, 300-400 should be suffice but i'd say since you're only on exchange, might as well splurge slightly more as it's a short experience. 500-700 excluding rent would be very comfortable smile.gif

I'll be there for 5-6 months. Prolly living within the vicinity of the campus, within walking distance. How about the living expenses besides rent? Is it cheap in Birmingham relative to other places in the UK? And how much roughly per month?

Why choose UK instead of Australia ? Thanks.
