I remember reading in the last thread on someone wanting to do a short exchange in the UK for a few months.

Note: one can only study in the UK using a standard visitor visa for 30 days. If it's more than that, you'd need a short-term study visa.

If the study is less than 6 months, I think the study visa is given on the spot at the immigration? If I'm not mistaken.

Nono. According to the Immigration links that I've saw, one would need to apply first like those studying full year in the UK. Only those under 18 will be eligible to use the standard visa in an exchange program. Academic visitors and exchange students are different. Here's the LINK

The short-term study visa is slightly different and must be applied. Here's the LINK

Also, the according to the site, one cannot use a normal visa for studies. Here's the link. LINK

Cheers.

Malaysia is non-EU, but we might also be different because we're in the commonwealth.
You should check with this link instead, it's more specific:

Well technically, you still need a visa to enter the UK, it's just that you don't need to apply before you come, the visa is given on the spot at the immigration.

I tried it previously. Lol. But still need to check under the short-term part to bring the necessary documents maybe. I should go around and ask. Haha.

Long-term one is easy. Don't need to think too much about it. smile.gif

Yes, you will need to bring all the documents with you and show it to the immigration when you arrived in UK. They need those to be able to give you a short term study visa.

It's just that you don't have to go apply at VFS beforehand, the visa is given on the spot at the immigration.

Correct me if I'm wrong, this is what happened to few of my cousins who came to UK to study for 3 months.
Things might have changed, so if anyone who has just recently been to UK for short-term study (less than 6 months) can share their experience here to make sure if things are still the same or it has changed.

I think long term one is more complicated though, you need to do TB screening before you can apply for the visa. And you also need to pay around USD800 as well before you can apply for the visa, and there's no guarantee your visa application can be approved, if rejected, you need to pay again to reapply. Besides, although not compulsory, you should have enough money in your bank account to cover the school fees and the expenses for staying over here throughout your course.

2 months after course ended. For those that go for between 6 months to 12 months courses.

If more than a year, 4 months. The rest I'm not sure.

Graduate in July, Allowed time until Nov to secure a job. for normal 3 year courses from a proper uni.

But to be fair there's a good chance of getting a job if you start from year 1 because big companies tend to offer jobs to their interns.
Apply for spring week in year 1, summer internship & placement year in year 2, then only graduate job in year 3.
