But you need to maintain $500 every month, else you will be deducted $2 i guess.
How's the currency rate? Good to do remittance?
I don't feel like carrying so much cash in RM when Im leaving for good.
Gonna go there buy during lunch time at MRT

Just go to DBS counter and can transfer to any acc in Malaysia?
Small amount for personal use, no problem. I did that on my first arrival, and I would buy some groceries from Malaysia before going back SG. No problem with that.
*
Nah not DBS counter. Just DBS online banking. Takes about 2 working days to debit into MY account.

To reply your question, SGD 3K is actually more than enough for a bachelorhood, I'd like to provide some estimated budget for a Sg life:

+ Basic              +3000

-Tax (15%) -450
- phone bill -80
- Rental        -700
- meal        -500
- entertainment -200
- transport        -100
- daily good -200

Remainder        770
*
biggrin.gif What's wrong with the tax doh.gif

Your estimated budget is not really budget. Consider spend a lot leh...

QUOTE(The Net Surfer @ Feb 22 2016, 03:44 PM)
For the first 6 months, the rate is 15%. After that, it will be lower. Because the Gov didn't want foreigner to come here play play then leave.
*
doh.gif Facepalm for you.

Only if you work here less than 183 days that you need to pay 15% for the first 6 months. Otherwise if you continue to work over 1 year, that year you will be taxed based on residence rate.

So let say if your salary is 3k. Yearly income will be 36k. Forget about any additional allowance/bonus (to be easy to calculate),

You will be taxed

First $30,000 - $200 tax
Next $10,000 - (3.5%) = (3.5% * $6000) = $210

Total tax = $200 + $210

Let say if you work here for just 5 months (>60 days <183 days) then quit and back Malaysia

You will be taxed

$3000 * 5 months * 15% = $2250

Does this answers your question?

Strong experience in ecommerce operation, sales and market, immediate knowledge in digital marketing, know how to use different digital online tools to optimize conversion.

On top of that, I'm experienced in software solutions mainly in CRM, loyalty system, native mobile apps.

My startup focus on smart home / home automation using mobile apps.. But, due to the slow market, these items are still considered as "luxury" item to many developers and home buyers..

I still believe the concept of smart city, not just smart home will happen in the near future, maybe not in Malaysia but i can see its happening in SG already. This am looking towards this field..
*
You mean something like the lift that brings your "falali" and "lamebogini" from ground floor up to your home become part of your home decor?

That's not really the kind of intelligent automation but that is coooooolllll!!

Re tax. I believe if you have worked less than 183 days but have an employment contract of one year or more, you can appeal to IRAS and there's a chance that they'll consider u a tax resident.

Like what others said, you probably don't have to pay in 2017 but to pay in 2018 for 2016 & 2017.

I started in Sept 2014 and I haven't pay a cent yet. The bomb is coming though ranting.gif ranting.gif

Not sure for SG, for MY, we will offer before work pass is approved.
It's the same for some companies, different name.
*
I also signed my offer letter and post it to SG while HR apply for the work pass. But in the offer letter it states something like the offer is valid only if the EP is approved which I think is reasonable as the company won't be able to hire you without the approval. The best they can do is only to appeal for you.

QUOTE(LeslieKenny @ Mar 6 2016, 12:22 PM)
They did offer me the position thru email. Position name stated, salary stated, but benefits not included, I do not think that it is considered as formal offer letter. However, the HR told me that the employment letter will be provided once the medical check-up done and work pass is approved. So, look like I cannot do anything now ? feel like not secure ... cry.gif
*
Anyway it's only your first job. Why be worried. Really (touch wood) can't get the job then worse come to worse back home lo biggrin.gif

means that every month pay rm30? for 1gb data only? hmm hmm.gif
still seems expensive. at most 1 month I only back Malaysia 1 time. few days spend in Malaysia only
*
All prepaid got this so called grace period. I'm using umobile and the grace period is 2 months (last time 3 months). Just have to top up within that 2 months then you still get to keep your number. You get to receive SMS while roaming in SG also.

Now everytime back M'sia only like 10 days or less. Just top up RM10~30 depends on how much data I need to use when I back M'sia.

No need to reload every month also. Just that after the expiry date your number will be "Inactive" but still can be activated within 2 months time from the expiry date. If I still got balance from last time I just top up RM5/10 to get 1 week data plan when I go out to JB for day or overnight trip. Doing fine for me. My balance is by no mean accumulating biggrin.gif There's just enough everytime I go out with some leftover.

Just top up online everytime before I go out or even while on the way go SG Checkpoint, topup using phone.

*
Equally good depends mainly depends on the package you sign and whether your company got offer any corporate plan and whether you can part under your relatives with sub line up to 30% off.

Coverage and reception wise nothing much different. Just that maybe on MRT, you will get better signal with Singtel otherwise about the same.

75% and above, if 3949 as u mention, sg working class probably struggles the same as the working class in malaysia comparing their median 50% against ours. Looks like the salary is pretty stagnant there. Financial service could be in a different bracket altogether. Higher in range i thnk
*
But salary expenses proportion is a lot higher here. In Malaysia if earn 2k maybe I need to take money from parents to survive. Here take $2000 probably just ikat perut a bit still can have savings.

All depends on your life style la. Similar lifestyle (except the car part) and similar position (with relevant salary range), definitely SG leaves you a lot of spare money compare to M'sia.

Haven't mention save here and spend in M'sia. Haven't also mention work here but stay and travel daily from M'sia. The savings is really significant. Just whether you have the motivation/will to keep up.

QUOTE(SG2016 @ Mar 19 2016, 04:26 PM)
Yup, SingTel postpaid here. No line in mrt tunnels. Telco here not as good as I had thought.

But much better than Unifail

At least 100% better than D,C,M rolleyes.gif

Green line mostly covered though.

Thx for the link. Tried it, and for SDG36k/annum, the nett pay payable is only SDG410.
IMPO, i think it is dirt cheap! But the basis is one is a tax resident.
However, clarifications on the 'salary expenses' please? Do you mean the living expenses is higher there?
*
You will be a tax resident if you work here for at least 183 days which is just barely 6 months.

I'm already here for 1.5 year. Time flies...

36k need to add allowance and all bonus etc so it might not be just 36k.

Erm... Without conversion, dollar for dollar, the expenses in M'sia is much higher except maybe room rental.

Room rental in SG common room for one pax probably average at around 600, easily 800 or even 1000 depends on your capability. Probably can get lower in M'sia but I guess now about the same. Last time it should be lower in M'sia (without conversion).

Transport... SG mostly take public transport will do. No need toll no need petrol one month just spend $80~100. At KL, provided your work place is accessible by public transport, the fare itself will be at least like RM8 per day d. One month around RM160~200? $80~100 is more than sufficient for me per month. I use only around $60 per month as I go work only $2.16 per day as my place is quite near workplace. Average should be around $3.5 per day (to and fro).

Food... At most part of Singapore, in normal food court (HDB/Standalone food court/Kopitiam) the economic rice is at $3~3.5 for 2 vege 1 meat (but it can go up to around 5.5 in food court at malls/commercial buildings). Wanton mee/minced meat noodle around $3 to $4 etc etc. Others like Indonesian/Indian food can be quite expensive at even normal food court up to around $6~$8. But in M'sia, even economic rice probably starts at RM5~8 d. McChicken set here $5, Malaysia IINM already RM8.95? Last time used to be RM5.95 right?

Same case for drinks. Hot Coffee at normal food court here around $1~1.2, Malaysia probably RM1.5~1.8?
Starbucks here $8.4 for Frappucino Venti size. Malaysia around RM18?

So... You understand now? biggrin.gif

Now... My question...

I started working here from 1/9/2014. From the period of 1/9 to 31/12 in Year 2014, my total earnings (salary + allowance + bonus) is less than $20,000 but I continued working until now.

Do I have to pay tax for Year 2014?

Year 2015 is clear cut I have to pay full but 2014 I really not sure hmm.gif

if u're using prepaid i guess it's fine ... m1 broadband charges still ok as it's fixed every month ..
it's just my bad experience with m1 postpaid which is monthly billing ... every month my plan is about $53 SGD...
but every month i wouldn't pay $53 .. it would at least be $70 & above even though i do minimal calling, & most of the time my frens are the 1 calling me ..
when i called in to ask about their charges they couldn't explain .. & there is 1 time that when i just did 1 time overseas call for like 20 mins & my bill shotup to $150 .. just wanna warn u guys about it & think twice on signing with m1 postpaid ... i'm using singtel now so far so good for me  wink.gif
*
You call overseas without the prefix code is it? With the prefix IDD code and without the price is like 10x difference leh.

I actually think all here is ok... Not like M'sia really suka suka charge you.

Can't you check from your bill? You should have the itemised bill stating all the charges right?

Senior senior sekalian, I'm going to start working in sg for some lab assistant job on 1st of April...

i try to find and rent a room in SG but the agent told me that there is a new rule since March that now you need to provide your tenant permit which comes together with your work permit to rent a room or else cannot help me @@

(My company hasnt get me my work permit yet their tradition is usually you go there do medical check up on first day, training for the following days and will get permit done by the second week)

Any options suggestions for me beside staying temporary in JB? Go back and forth very tiring leh sigh
*
Has your ccompany applied the work pass for you? If yes you should receive IPA. You need to show that to the immigration while entering SG. With the IPA you can already start working for the company.

You must do the medical check first as you need that to get your work pass registered. Then only you can receive your "Green IC".
