QUOTE(KilJim @ Mar 23 2016, 09:25 AM) If I were you I'd rather stay closer to my work place instead You travel to work 5x a week and only travel to airport 1x a week at most Plus the human traffic during work days is going to be way worse compared to friday night If you're in a hurry you can always take a taxi to the airport, but even MRT will take you less than an hour But staying further away from the CBD and nearer to the 'end of the line' might actually mean you'll be able to board MRTs more easily during peak hours? I've decided against getting a car or importing my current wheels from KL so I guess it's the MRT for me for the forseeable future. A bit of walking never hurt, but damnit, didn't expect that there'll be queue cutters even here in SG.

QUOTE(bujubomb @ Mar 23 2016, 09:30 AM) guys i just started working here 1 month but i feel like changing company already because i'm having an issue with my boss ~_~ can't really communicate with him and he don't trust my works as well. i don't mind getting scold for not doing a good job but it seemed like he is scolding for the sake of scolding and sometimes even insult D: should i change company asap or should i stay longer? as what i heard from them during interview they can actually write to MOM and blacklist people so that they can't come back to Singapore to work so i'm struggling whether to stay or to leave :/ Stay as I don't believe one month is sufficient time to see if you fit in. If your boss doesn't like you he wouldn't have hired you in the first place I would think. Mebbe it's tough love or you need to earn his respect. Every boss is different mah. A rolling stone gathers no moss yada yada or something like that as the old saying goes.

I believe getting a room on a short term basis, no need for master room and then spending some time actually scouting for a place for you and the missus might be a better idea.

QUOTE(fruitie @ Mar 23 2016, 09:33 PM) Different industry, different level, different expectation. Maybe my expectation is too high, that's why I still haven't found a good job yet. In my industry, most capable people get swamped by headhunters after being here for a bit so perhaps it might be better to just get one foot in the door and let things develop from there?

Banking and finance isn't all that great la. Sure we get paid well but there's quite a lot of stress and responsibilities that come with it.
Don't always believe what others say - sometimes the grass is greener on the other side of the fence... because it is fake! 25 dollars per sq foot lol.
Just to elaborate a little - most people in the lucrative banking/finance sector (we're not talking tellers or bank admin etc etc ya) either started quite young or have very specialised skill sets such as compliance, brokering etc. Others are blessed with the gift of the gab and are good at selling ice to eskimos, but if you are so blessed you'll be able to do well in practically any sales function.

QUOTE(vincentleong @ Apr 19 2016, 06:57 PM) Spotify. Getting it for "free" as part of the telco plan bundle. Otherwise Apple, coz I'm deep in their ecosystem and it's one less account to deal with. Edit: Maybe try both to see which one you like better? Their algorithms for music recommendations are rather different.

True that. I won't say that I'm annoyed or such but am more amused really. It just shows that you have much to learn. If you ask me, the real key is to keep oneself relevant. Don't stagnate and rest in your, again for the lack of a better word, comfort zone. It is much harder to recruit and retain a proven senior management kaki with relevant experience compared to getting a young eager freshie lor. Getting head hunted is quite refreshing, as compared to having to job search.

Huwah! SGD20/hour for a part time maid, and a minimum time of 3 hours... I wonder how long it'll take to iron 2 weeks of office laundry (aka 10 shirts, 5 pants) and to do general housework (shoebox unit, don't cook so basically its mopping and toilet duty only).

QUOTE(uKnowWho @ May 4 2016, 01:12 PM) need some advice, i have about 3.5 years of working experience in Malaysia and now i got a job offer in Sg with 3.1k SGD does it acceptable? by the way..it is a 1 year contract job (renewable) and is in IT field I would think that it is slightly on the low side. However, with the depressing market conditions and the perception that the one 'competitive advantage' us Malaysians have over the local Singaporeans is that we are cheaper (which, isn't true by the way, so don't-lah market yourselves as such - many of my malaysian peers are getting paid at or above the going rate, just have to have the correct marketable skillset) it might be a bit iffy to hold out for a better deal if you desperately want to come over. Just my opinion though, and I am no HR expert so well...

QUOTE(Dendroid_King @ May 5 2016, 04:40 PM) Won't they freeze my account or do an investigation instead? Besides my transaction is low. de-risking. the bank most likely haven't started any investigations - their compliance flurs probably did a review on existing accounts and saw something that they didn't like. hence they are terminating their relationship with you before MAS decides to make that an offence. Tipping off is already an offence iinm so the bank will not reveal their reasons to you. i guess. This post has been edited by madmoz: May 5 2016, 05:01 PM

Is there a minimum wait period (official or unofficial) to apply for a PR? I believe that the stamp duty for property purchases is 5% for PRs as opposed to 15% for foreigners.
