Peeps,

I haven't received my work permit card yet, takes a few days right? Went for the thumbprint thing yesterday.

Can I apply for a mobile phone and my internet connection yet? Using the maxis roaming deal is both expensive and limited.

What docs does Singtel need during application?

I won't, unless if there are other reasons for coming - kids education, migration etc.

If you do, it wouldn't be for the money.

Hahah I feel like I'm back at uni, trying to limit my food spendings to SGD15/day.
Cost of living is quite low indeed here and it seems that it is entirely possible to save at least half of my pay per month smile.gif even after paying rental on my studio and some luxuries (damn you my gaming and anime doll hobby/addiction).
As for actual work, I do love the faster and more mature environment here.
Win win I'd say, but I kinda miss the missus. Only seeing her every fortnight is a big change.

I would be asking the same question.. stay in johor and travel to singapore to work.

Out of topic a little,
I am looking at Johor properties.. but it seems there is not a lot of johor properties discussion in Lowyat (or i simply fail to find it).
Currently looking at Ecoworld Summer ( should be near to Mount Austin.. and there is not thread on lowyat on this)

Any comment to buying a property in johor?

Thanks.

Go experience the causeway jam once and then decide.

Hoho lucky I saw your post before you edited the number  thumbup.gif

On the contrary I'm not exactly unhappy - enjoy seeing the growth rate of my bank account and it's plenty enough for food - sans daily yuppie kopi.

QUOTE(chickenessence @ Mar 2 2016, 11:27 PM)
Well, not smart enough / not earning enough so have to stay further and go through the jam, etc.

Anyway, it is possible to create a thread in property talk on list of johor projects / properties?
*
Maybe that didn't come out right - wasn't judging or anything, just saying that the jam might not be worth the perceived savings.

My opinion is that it is only viable for Singaporeans - they rent out their hdb for a few thousand and rent or buy for themselves something across the causeway.

Re tax. I believe if you have worked less than 183 days but have an employment contract of one year or more, you can appeal to IRAS and there's a chance that they'll consider u a tax resident.

It doesn't work like that.

For e.g. If you start working in Nov 2015, and CONTINUE working into the following year 2016, you will be consider a tax resident and you pay your tax in 2017,  once you have file your 2016 Year of Assessment.

That is what happen to me, many years back. I even called up asking IRAS how come I don't receive my Notice of Assessment for the year I started working. To my surprise I don't have to pay tax until the following year  rclxms.gif

Wow their IRAS proactive wor then. Cause that's what my tax agent in Malaysia told me 😱, apply for tax residency based on the length of your contract.

Been here for almost one and a half months. Life is good indeed and things are cheap, except for my studio apartment rental and possibly the utilities. Bills for that haven't arrived yet.

Got paid half a month's salary last time round and it isn't even half finished after paying rent! Managed to get an UHD TV and a PS4 to keep me entertained at nights lol.

Missing the family a bit, but I suppose one cannot have everything. Payday is next week hehe. At this rate sending $$ home is gonna be easy. bruce.gif

Flying home is a pain though, leave opis at 5 on Friday, and when sampai rumah also close to 11 no thanks to KLIA being super far from KL and my place not being anywhere near train stations. I suspect taking a bus might be cheaper and take just about as long. Mana and how to take a bus back to KL ar, sifus here?

How much does it cost to own a car? Or can I transfer my Malaysia car into SG ar? I've got a parking spot so if it isn't too expensive having a car to drive back up and down again on the weekends might be viable. hmm.gif

PS. Work is sadly, rather heavier than in KL. I miss my old team. really.

Typical Geylang area rent lo. 2k to 2.5k.
Paying rent sucks really sad.gif . Hopefully I'd be able to get a place of my own before the year is up.
