Hi all. Need some input. I have a fujitsu laptop running on i5 with 8gb of ram. The laptop is super laggy and im not sure if its the HDD prob. Was thinking of swapping it for SSD. Kindly advise what would be the best option and how much would it cost?

Tries disk cleanup and all. Still about the same.

From what you say, changing to SSD is a good option nonetheless?

How much are you willing to spend? These days, you can get a new retail 120GB/128GB SSD for around RM230, 250GB/256GB for around RM400. In day to day use there's hardly any difference between models and brands, so usually just get any you like. If your laptop has an mSATA or M.2 slot you can use that for SSD, and still keep the HDD for mass storage.

Hi. I don't need a high capacity one so 128gb is enough. I am also not sure what type is it? But is it a lot of work to clone the OS from one to the other?

Cloning is easy really, I usually use Macrium Reflect to clone HDDs to SSDs for my clients. That program is easy to use and it's free.

^Sandisk X300 128GB, RM215. Decent performance, and one of the cheapest available.

It depends on the specific laptop, some laptops have easy access to the HDD bay so a few screws and it's off. Some other laptops need to be dissembled almost completely to get to the HDD bay.

Will ssd improve the performance SIGNIFICANTLY?

Connect the new SSD to the computer using a USB cable or enclosure, run the program until finished. Open your laptop and change the HDD to SSD and the you're done.
Below is a video that shows how to use the program

Maybe there's something else that's accessing your HDD all the time? Anyway based on my personal experience with a pretty run of the mill SSD on a Haswell based Celeron laptop, even when hammered with antivirus scans, windows update and IDM downloads the laptop is still responsive. Did this on the same laptop using the stock 5400rpm HDD it came with and it basically just gave up lol, nothing moves. tongue.gif

I don't recommend cloning from HDD to SSD. The blocks arrangement of SSD is totally different from HDD. It will still work but it will take some performance penalty.

Yes, SSD can read files faster at the average speed more than 300mb/s while most of the HDD can only read files at the average speed around 100mb/s

Yes, enclosure is not expensive. Last time I bought ClipTec 2.5” USB 2.0 SATA Harddisk SSD HDD Enclosure for the price less than RM30. Quite reliable. biggrin.gif

The biggest difference is actually not sequential read/write. It's random read/write performance that matters the most for normal usage. The difference is 50-100x compared to HDD.

*
Depending on your usage. If you just need to copy movies which are sequential in nature, it's not worth it. A normal HDD is fast enough.

Guys, need some advice here...

I'm using a Asus N56V, I5-3210M, 8GB, 750GB 5400RPM, DVDRW, Ori Win7 Home Edition.

My plan is to replace the default HDD with a SSD and the HDD will be place into the DVDRW with a caddy. There are few things I'm a bit concern.

1. Can I clone my Original Win7 Home Edition from my HDD to SSD? Will it still be genuine OS if I install it from the SSD?

2. Any good shop to recommend for such upgrade? I'm from Cheras.

Hope to get input from fellow sifus here...

Most if not all SSD come with a tool to transfer your data from the current hdd to the new ssd as long as the data on the hdd doesnt exceed the size ssd.

But i would do is to a clean install on the ssd.

looks like you've got more than ample confident and experienced advice from many of the experts here

and yes as they do correctly say - well most of them - its as easy as just physically swapping the old one out and putting in the ssd

unless you have 2 bays on your laptop then its just a matter of putting in the new ssd

but in anycase you would like to also think of cloning your hdd partition to the new ssd so that you don't have to reinstall the os and drivers and applications all over again

but then again for that - for me at least - the non IT savvy person, you would have to read the manual for that cloning software carefully or at least understand the steps to do - its not as simple as click click next done

but I think by now you would already accumulated enough confidence with all the advises you have got from all these confident experts here

for me, just sharing that the simplest way for me was to reinstall the os and drivers from scratch and then later copy back the documents and data and stuff to the new ssd.

yes it was a pain to reinstall everything but then again maybe you like  me - think that it is time for some good housekeeping and hence good to start from scratch and fresh
*
If u buy good brand like samsung, they include those software to do cloning n managing the disk

I must say its super easy with samsung migration tool
( been using those 3rd party cloning software like acronis, paragon, partition magic before )
So far.. im suprised how simple it is.
