Has anyone done any research if the interest rates are better of at the beginning or end of the year for the past few years?  Just curious.

FDs maturing Dec dunno wanna wait till Jan or just place with 4.5% in Dec.
*
Assuming if you waited 15 days for a 4.7% 12 months FD in 2016, then you are actually getting 4.51% in effective terms.
If there is no such 4.7% rate in 2016 and rates remain at 4.5%, then you are getting 4.32% for losing 15 days interest.

Fd become reits now

I throw PAV reit at 1.52 per share because of AmBank 4.6%.

Wont regret when next year other bank go 5% ?
*
I merely use the 4.6% FD as the yardstick to ditch PAV reit.
I personally don't see promo FD rate can go as high as 5% next year if the OPR remain as it is. 4.6% FD promo rate for mid term deposit has exceeded the average housing loan lending rate and this phenomenon is extremely rare. I don't recall if such occurrence happened in the past even during the last financial crisis 17 years ago.
I do hope OPR remain as it is but promo FD rate raise above 5% drool.gif By that time, every one start ditching ASX, Bonds, reits for better security.

only risk is principle/capital not guaranteed

I thought our principle is not guaranteed if only maybank failed? No?

Your investment in Maybank can fail and risk capital loss but Maybank still can remain strong and steady.

You need to ask your parents to ask the bank about whether it is step-up FD or not. Best is if the bank can produce a brochure and we can help to clear your doubts if you can upload it.

But knowing HLB, they will never give 4.7% (HLB is a Chinaman bank where their FD rates are not competitive at all). The only bank giving 4.7% p.a. is MBSB bank for 5 years.
*
Hello, MBSB is not a bank.

anyone have ocbc ? during fd mature can u request it withdraw through online?
*
If placed the FD OTC previously, then you can only withdraw it OTC.
Online FD withdrawal is only for online FD placement at board rate.

A question for those familiar or existing OCBC account holder, can FD being withdrawn cross branches?
and if can, is there any limit?

New to OCBC.

Reason, attracted by the 4.5% FD.  tongue.gif
*
No. Can't do that. Must go back to home branch.
Why not Affin at 4.6% 15 mths ?

Morning guys.
Was about to go HLB to request them to transfer my FD in to my saving account and I forgot to bring my bank book. *smack head* Can I still proceed with only my IC and the FD cert?

This FD matured on October so they're now giving the 3.3% rate since I didn't do anything for the past two months. Will it affect the total amount of money I will get back?
*
What's your FD tenure previously ? Don't withdraw now and loose 2 months interest for nothing. Keep it at least 3 months till January then only withdraw and entitle to 50% of the 3.3% interest.

You don't need to bring the SA passbook in order to credit the FD withdrawal.

QUOTE(Ramjade @ Dec 4 2015, 10:56 AM)
Your principal is still there. Your earlier promo rates is still there. Just you get lesser returns for 2 months.
*
Don't give free money to banks is your motto but you did not advice Alexis not to give free money to HLB. whistling.gif
