Guys, this is my current setup built in lowyat 3 years back:

i3 3220
MSI b75MA-P45
Kingston 4gb 1333mhz budget ram
1TB WD caviar blue HDD
Sapphire HD7850 2GB
FSP 500W hexa series

Currently I am considering to upgrade the proc, RAM and GPU. Probably upgrade the RAM too. GPU I'm eyeing on the GTX970 for gaming purposes. Any idea for the cpu? probably i5 4690k but i don't oc. RAM probably upgrade to 8GB performance RAM. Ideas? Is my current PSU able to support it?

Not sure how far your 2K+ can go tongue.gif

With newest Skylake platform + GTX 970,

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 875
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 409
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM - RM 289
Zotac GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Reference - RM 1350

Total: RM 2923 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

If don't care what CPU gen you can get (just want the cheapest),

Intel Core i5 4460 - RM 810
Asus H81M-K - RM 229
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM - RM 220
Zotac GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Reference - RM 1350

Total: RM 2609 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

Sell your old parts to make some funds for this upgrade if you can nod.gif

PSU can reuse, can consider upgrade also if need more headroom for future hardware extension/upgrade etc.

Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM - RM 289
Zotac GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Reference - RM 1350

I'd suggest dropping the SSD and get a beefier GPU,Zotac GTX960 Single Fan 2GB RM819. Overbudget but the slightly cheaper GTX950 isn't worth it.

Iinm, it's due to pricing vs specification. Good pricing with the features you get.

Example. MSI B150M Bazooka provides you with 4 Ram slot, but some other brand only come with 2 slots and sometimes more expensive.

If you don't want change mobo, then you need to stick with your current processor because new processor won't fit in old mobo due to different socket.

Every chipset has it's own generation. Example LGA 1150 Socket goes with B85 Mobo. LGA 1151 Socket goes with B150 Mobo.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1151
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1150

You can just google the socket number and they will tell you what mobo is compatible.

Your current mobo is this one right? MSI B75MA-P45

If yes, then you cannot upgrade to Haswell without changing mobo, your mobo is using LGA1155 socket, Haswell is LGA1150, Skylake is LGA1151.
