Bloomberg reports: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/202...to-fund-upgrade

QUOTE
A passenger service and security fee for people departing from Singapore currently costs S$46.40 a flight, which is baked into ticket prices. By April 2030, that will come to S$58.40, a 26% increase. There will also be a one-time increase to the aviation levy from S$8 to S$10 in 2027.

Fees for transit passengers stand at S$6 now and will rise to S$18 gradually by 2030.

For everyday passengers, the added cost translates into about a 1% rise in airfares relative to the average cost of an economy class ticket, according to Thursday’s statement.

hahaha, congrats!

btw, i did calculation using co-pilot to compare qqq and dbs past 5 years, including dividend... qqq seems still the big winner.

Let’s break down the performance of an investment of $1,000 in both QQQ and DBS Bank over the past 5 years, including dividends.

QQQ (Invesco QQQ Trust)
Stock Price Growth:
The price of QQQ has increased from around $170 in November 2019 to approximately $514 in November 20241.
This represents a price appreciation of about 202%.
Dividends:
QQQ has paid quarterly dividends, with a total of approximately $13.50 per share over the past 5 years23.
DBS Bank (SGX: D05)
Stock Price Growth:
The price of DBS Bank has increased from around SGD 24 in November 2019 to approximately SGD 39 in November 20244.
This represents a price appreciation of about 62.5%.
Dividends:
DBS Bank has paid quarterly dividends, with a total of approximately SGD 8.10 per share over the past 5 years56.
Calculating Returns
QQQ:
Initial Investment: $1,000
Number of Shares Purchased: $1,000 / $170 ≈ 5.88 shares
Value After 5 Years: 5.88 shares * $514 ≈ $3,020.32
Total Dividends Received: 5.88 shares * $13.50 ≈ $79.38
Total Return: $3,020.32 + $79.38 = $3,099.70
DBS Bank:
Initial Investment: SGD 1,000
Number of Shares Purchased: SGD 1,000 / SGD 24 ≈ 41.67 shares
Value After 5 Years: 41.67 shares * SGD 39 ≈ SGD 1,625.13
Total Dividends Received: 41.67 shares * SGD 8.10 ≈ SGD 337.53
Total Return: SGD 1,625.13 + SGD 337.53 = SGD 1,962.66
Summary
QQQ: Your $1,000 investment would have grown to approximately $3,099.70.
DBS Bank: Your SGD 1,000 investment would have grown to approximately SGD 1,962.66.

reinvested the dividend
QQQ: Your $1,000 investment with reinvested dividends would have grown to approximately $3,141.54.
DBS Bank: Your SGD 1,000 investment with reinvested dividends would have grown to approximately SGD 2,042.21.

past one year performance
DBS Bank: 18.8% increase
QQQ: 39.1% increase

don't mean to pour cold water, i find dbs performance amazing and i love the stock. but the boring qqq still delivers.

Nicely done, bro. thumbup.gif
Yeah. The US market is giving great returns. What's inside QQQ?
Looks like QQQ is more price appreciation. Yield is very low.
As a retireee, i like my yields. biggrin.gif

If you are looking for capital gains connected to QQQ, you may want to have a look at TQQQ ProShares UltraPro QQQ

Yes. Performance is great.. My retirement fund is only 12% so far this year, maybe I should reduce my contribution. But I lack the discipline to invest myself. Hence always force system to do it.

Yield.. Do you reinvest them or cash out?

QQQ should be a collection of top US stocks.

Yes. I know about TQQQ, looks cheaper than QQQ too (just kidding on the price)

qqq is top 100 us tech stocks... driven mostly by a few darling companies that survived the tech bubble...

us companies mostly don't like to pay div... they do share buy back... this reduces supply driving up prices... div is taxable... capital gain is not... wink.gif

hence don't look at div yield per se... every year you can sell 1 share as 'yield' equivalent... smile.gif

d05 beats spy... so still not a bad investment biggrin.gif

comparing past 5 years with dividend reinvested... boring qqq still wins, assuming the info is correct (sometimes they extract wrong info from wrong website).

Summary
IBKR: $1,000 -> $2,316.90
SCHW: $1,000 -> $1,602.10
QQQ: $1,000 -> $2,532.30

Among the available options, QQQ has provided the highest return over the past five years when dividends are reinvested.

Bloomberg Opinion

The Wealthy Will Shield Asian Banks From Trump Tariffs
A fresh round of US levies could hurt trade finance and other loans. The rich hold the key for Hong Kong and Singapore lenders.

Momentum is starting to build. Bank of Singapore, which is Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp.’s private bank, plans to capture more asset flows from wealthy people in the UK as the Labour Party government contemplates raising taxes on foreign residents in the country. The trick, however, is to be circumspect about which family offices to sign up. Clients who trade rarely and don’t like paying fees can become margin traps.  laugh.gif
