Tank crews in Russia’s central Chelyabinsk region are testing an advanced “stealth” paint that ensures low visibility against electronic surveillance systems, a military spokesman said earlier this month.

"The paint combines durability, surface self-decontamination capability, low observability for electronic surveillance devices and enhanced icing resistance," Central Military District spokesman Yaroslav Roschupkin added.

South Korea assembling special forces to destroy North Korea's military targets



SEOUL, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- South Korea's military confirmed it is organizing a special-forces team that could destroy major weapons facilities in North Korea and that North Korean military movements were captured on surveillance when tensions escalated in August.

Cmdr. Jang Gyeong-seok of Seoul's Unconventional Warfare Task Force said Wednesday the military is aware of relevant regions in North Korea that could be targets, South Korean news outlet Money Today reported.

Jang said one of six special-forces troops is being assembled to conduct independent missions to target key military areas in North Korea, but in certain infiltration scenarios, Seoul would need to work jointly with U.S. troops in combat service support.

Jang said the military also is preparing special-ops aviation forces and that air force equipment including fixed-wing aircraft and rotorcraft have been procured.

Speaking during the parliamentary audit held before the National Assembly's Defense Committee, South Korean opposition party lawmaker Yoon Hu-deok said frontline military troops had confirmed it had captured North Korean movements ahead of provocative shelling in August.

On Aug. 20, as North Korean troops prepared to fire shells across the demilitarized zone at South Korean troops stationed in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi province, the South's military already had detected the movements across the border. Front-line troops went on high alert and subsequently contacted Seoul's artillery unit, which exchanged fire with the North.

Yoon said the South's military was able to keep track of the North's movements using wiretaps, and said the relevant commanders should be awarded for their bravery, South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.

Saudi Arabia, Malaysia Enhance Cooperation to Confront ISIL



"Malaysia and Saudi Arabia have agreed on consistent enhancing of cooperation in the sphere of intelligence to confront the influence of the IS [ISIL]," said Malaysian Minister of Defense Hishammuddin Hussein.

During a two-hour conversation Hussein and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman Al-Saud discussed "the issues of common and regional interests, particularly IS threat," according to the newspaper.

"In relation to this, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia agree to continue to strengthen the sharing of intelligence information to counter the IS influence," Hishammuddin posted to his Facebook account Wednesday.

According to the International Centre for the Study of Radicalization, ISIL has recruited over 20,000 foreign fighters, including hundreds of Malaysians.

Singapore, US Conclude Bilateral Military Exercise



September 23, Singapore and the United States concluded a military exercise codenamed Valiant Mark.

Valiant Mark is an annual bilateral exercise held between the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). According to a statement by the USMC, the exercise is meant to enhance U.S. and Singaporean forces’ combined combat readiness through live fire and urban terrain training as well as amphibious operations familiarization. Building relationships and exchanging tactics allows both militaries to prepare for future joint combat operations and ensure smoother collaboration to accomplish missions.

Last year, Valiant Mark 14.1 was held in January 2014 in Singapore while Valiant Mark 14.2 was held in the United States in Camp Pendleton in December. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Valiant Mark 14.2 featured the demonstration of three non-lethal weapons systems. These included the Active Denial System – a weapon that uses millimeter wave technology to produce an almost intolerable heating sensation – along with the Mini Distributed Sound and Light Array System and the Persistent Ground Surveillance System.

This year’s exercise, which took place from 7 to 23 September, included a series of live-fire exercises and professional sharing on weapons systems. About 200 personnel from the 7th Singapore Infantry Brigade and the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment took part in the exercise. The highlight was a battalion amphibious operation, where troops from the SAF and USMC demonstrated their ship-to-shore capabilities.

“Singapore and the US share excellent and long-standing bilateral defense relations,” a statement from Singapore’s Ministry of Defense (MINDEF) read.

“The two militaries interact extensively through bilateral and multilateral exercises, professional exchanges and the cross-attendance of courses. These regular interactions have enhanced the interoperability between the two armed forces and help foster mutual understanding among their personnel,” it added.

The situation is heating up in Syria yet again. If reports coming from Almasdar News are accurate, another troop deployment will soon be about to take place – in addition to the 2,000 Russian troops who arrived earlier this week. This time, however, the troops are coming from China. Leith Fadel of Almasdar News (the Arab Source), reported that China has now decided to commit troops and military aircraft to Syria within the next six weeks. Although the reports have not been independently confirmed, the outlet cited a senior Syrian officer in the Syrian military for the claims regarding the Chinese plans. Fadel’s information has proven accurate many times in the past.

On Tuesday, September 22, 2015, early morning, a Chinese naval vessel reportedly traveled through Egypt’s Suez Canal to enter the Mediterranean Sea; its destination was not confirmed.However, according to a senior officer in the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) that is stationed inside the Syrian coastal city of Latakia, Chinese military personnel and aerial assets are scheduled to arrive in the coming weeks (6 weeks) to the port-city of Tartous – he could not provide anymore detail.

Also, Russia's Defence Ministry on Thursday said it will hold naval drills in the "east Mediterranean" in September and October, as the West frets over a military buildup by Moscow in Syria.The exercises include three warships from Russia's Black Sea Fleet, including the Saratov landing ship, the Moskva guided missile cruiser and the Smetlivy destroyer, the ministry said in a statement. The drills will involve "40 combat exercises, including rocket and artillery fire at sea and airborne targets," the statement said. The Moskva cruiser, the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, left its base in Crimea on Thursday September 24, 2015 and is now heading to the exercises, the Ministry added separately.

Russia has made it abundantly clear that they are taking an active role in this conflict, but the news of the Chinese military to Syria provides more insight into their contingency.There is clearly a mutual threat shared between Syria and China with both countries under attack from Uyghur terrorists who are typically controlled by Turkish and Western intelligence. China’s growing Uyghur separatists movement in Xinjang, recent bombings in to Turkey’s Uyghur “Grey Wolves,” and Turkistan Islamic Party/Army of Conquest Turkish-backed terrorists at work in Syria assisting in the supplying Chinese Uyghur terrorists with fake passports and engaging in terrorist/military operations against the Syrian government, all represent a threat that exists both to the existence of the Assad government in Syria and the government in China.

Some military strategists may point to China’s non-interference principle as an impasse to action. However, China’s non-interference principle is more in reference to meddling in other countries’ domestics politics, such as US/western penchant for intervention and violating other countries’ sovereignty to overthrow autocratic regimes they dislike. Non-interference policy does not mean inaction when China’s security and interests are threatened.

Moreover, the Assad regime is currently still the legal and UN-recognized government of Syria, despite only holding 1/3 of its territory. If Assad asks and gives permission for Russia, China and other Shanghai CoSCO members to assist him militarily, that would be in accordance with international law. This differs from the current US-led anti-ISIS coalition airstrikes in Syria that is neither operating under a UN mandate nor permission from the sovereign government, although it enjoys implicit permission to some extent from the Assad regime to fight ISIS.

If Fadel’s report from Almasdar is accurate, then it is apparent that the Russia-China bloc is finally responding to the Islamic State menace which many claims to be a Western-backed terror threat that has blown out of proportion.
In the meantime, we have to wait and watch - whether US & NATO forces finally receiving some vital support or an unwanted resistance to their current ongoing Syrian Offensives in the form of Russian-Chinese joint deployments in Syria.

Syrian rebels trained by the United States gave some of their equipment to the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front in exchange for safe passage, a US military spokesman said on Friday, the latest blow to a troubled US effort to train local partners to fight Islamic State militants.

The rebels surrendered six pick-up trucks and some ammunition, or about one-quarter of their issued equipment, to a suspected Nusra intermediary on September 21-22 in exchange for safe passage, said Colonel Patrick Ryder, a spokesman for US Central Command, in a statement.

“If accurate, the report of NSF members providing equipment to al Nusra Front is very concerning and a violation of Syria train and equip program guidelines,” Ryder said, using an acronym for the rebels, called the New Syrian Forces.

US Central Command, which oversees US military operations in the Middle East, was told of the equipment surrender around 1 pm (1700 GMT) on Friday, Ryder said. Earlier on Friday, Ryder had said all weapons and equipment issued to the rebels remained under their control.

The news was the most recent sign of trouble in a fledgling military effort to train fighters to take on the Islamic State militant group in Syria, where a 4-1/2-year civil war has killed about 250,000 people and caused nearly half of Syria’s prewar population of 23 million to flee.

A top US general told Congress last week that only a handful of the rebels are still fighting in Syria, though US military officials said this week that dozens more have since joined them. US officials have told Reuters that a review is underway that could result in scaling back and reenvisioning the program.
