Bashar-al-Assad must go or face ‘military action’: Saudi Arab

“There are two options for a settlement in Syria. One option is a political process where there would be a transitional council,” he said, describing this as the “preferred option.” ”The other option is a military option, which also would end with the removal of Bashar al-Assad from power,” Jubeir warned.

QUOTE
The Yemeni forces took control of the Saudi military post of Ka'b al-Jaberi and the village of Mohannad in Jizan, leaving a group of Saudi soldiers dead and injured.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Saudi Interior Ministry said that a member of the ministry was killed by a mortar shell fired from Northern Yemen on the border between the two countries.

"Military shells fired from the Yemeni territory killed Ali Bin Fahad Abu Mahasen, a member of the mujahideen administration branch in Jizan region," the spokesman said in a statement.

Shades of U.S. in fractious Iraq: Aden’s citizens give V-signs to Saudi forces

user posted image

QUOTE
SANAA – As Saudi soldiers drive armored vehicles around Aden, the port in southern Yemen they helped recapture from rebels, young men clap and children flash the V-for-victory sign.

“The coalition came here to help us,” said Omar Abdullah Saleh, a Yemeni militia fighter, as he patrolled among collapsed buildings and bullet-riddled walls. “We are happy with their presence.”

There are reasons for the Saudis to wonder how long the warm welcome will last — especially if they recall that U.S. troops in Iraq were also greeted as liberators, at first. Local allies have their own agenda; public expectations of a swift return to normal life will be tough to meet; and in much of Yemen the rebels still hold sway and enjoy grassroots support.

All that means the Saudi engagement in Yemen may still be in its early stages, poised to inflict a growing humanitarian cost in a region that’s already seen a mass exodus of Syrian refugees. There are also economic risks for Saudi Arabia, the world’s biggest crude exporter, which is having to dig deep into its savings after the oil slump.

Obama’s “Pivot to Asia” NATO-Like Project

user posted image

QUOTE
The ‘Backwards L’

Japan:

The function of a Japan-Philippines-Vietnam axis is to create a ‘backwards L’ of military containment in order to ‘box’ China inside mainland Asia, with the Philippines being the fulcrum of this entity. Japan is the most active Lead From Behind proponent of this policy, taking the initiative (under American instruction) to authorize both the sales of weapons and the deployment of troops abroad. Considering the strategic partnership between them and how each has their own island disputes with China, it’s logical to conclude that Japan will seek to make the Philippines the central focus of both anti-Chinese policy manifestations. The Diplomat reported at the end of June that this certainly seems to be in the cards, with Tokyo preparing to sell Manilla a slew of naval and air units in exchange for a “Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA)” that could allow it to deploy its first foreign forces since World War II. One should also be reminded that both sides held their second-ever naval drills this summer together with the US, showing that there’s actual substance to their strategic partnership and that it’s not just rhetorically based.

Vietnam:

paracel_islands_spratly_islands_disputed_claims_by_china_philippines_vietnam_malaysia_bruneiThe other end of the ‘backwards L’, Vietnam, is also increasing its interactions with the Philippines, as the slated strategic partnership attests. Last May, military units from the two sides symbolically enjoyed a game of football together on one of the South China Sea’s disputed islands (the second time they have done so), showing that each of them is serious about working together to confront China in this region. The aforecited article also details some of the bilateral military cooperation between both sides, with each country’s navy calling port at the other and even holding informal discussions on setting up joint patrols in the area. It’s highly predicted that the signing of a strategic partnership between them will lead to an acceleration of military cooperation, and furthermore, will even put Vietnam and Japan’s militaries into direct contact with the other via the Philippines’ geographic intermediary function, which also accomplishes a contingent goal of the US’ P2A by having both CCC anchors enhance their full spectrum bilateral relations (especially in the military field).

Incorporating South Korea

In essence, there are actually two CCC axes that the US is building and wants to unite, and these are the ones between Vietnam-The Philippines (already discussed) and Japan-South Korea. To say a few words about the latter, it’s still not entirely certain that Seoul will commit to joining the CCC. For example, even though it’s part of a trilateral information sharing mechanism between it, Japan, and the US ostensibly against North Korea (which could realistically be turned against China in the future), it’s also being wooed by China through the recently inked Free Trade Agreement and has been ambivalent about hosting the US’ THAAD “missile defense” units (potentially even going it alone to produce its own domestic version instead).

Still, this hasn’t halted the country’s interest in cooperating with the Philippines, the magnetic center of geopolitical attraction to all members of the CCC community. The country’s Defense Minister visitedthe island nation earlier this month to discuss future military collaboration (as of now, just weapons sales and technical assistance), but such a big step could also help further last year’s proposal for the two countries to enter into a strategic partnership with one another. While South Korea doesn’t have any island disputes with China and behaves moderately friendly towards it in a military sense (not counting the anti-Chinese agenda of the thousands of US troops that are based there), if it got caught up in the CCC’s intrigue inside the Philippines, bilateral relations could certainly suffer as a result of the heightened and warranted suspicions that China would inevitably have towards its maritime neighbor.

With or without South Korea’s incorporation (which is still questionable), however, the central axis of Japan-Philippines-Vietnam still represents a formidable threat to China, but the auxiliary participation of the peninsular state would definitely contribute to its enhanced effectiveness, and it’s worthy to monitor any forthcoming decisions that its leadership takes in this regard.

QUOTE
Rounding out the ‘backwards L’ of Indonesian containment, over 1,000 US Marines are now routinely rotated out of the North Australian city of Darwin, thus adding a third lever of external pressure against the archipelago’s authorities.

If one adds in the US’ regime change attempt in Malaysia (meticulouslyexposed by Tony Cartalucci), then an actual containment square emerges, whereby the country is faced with potentially hostile elements in its northwest (a Color Revolution government in Malaysia), northeast (the CCC/Asian NATO that could also turn against Indonesia), southeast (foreign influence over the Papuas), and southwest (American Marines in Darwin, Australian control over Christmas and Cocos Islands and American military interest there).

Therefore, it’s becoming apparent that the containment of Indonesia is inseparable from the containment of China, as the former is entering into effect via moves euphemistically made in advancement of the latter, and this underreported element of the P2A certainly deserves further analytical attention from other researchers.

To be continued…

Breaking: U.S. Special Forces On Offensive In Afghanistan

After a sustained Taliban offensive, Kunduz, the capital of Baghlan province, has now become the first major city to fall to the Taliban since the 2001 invasion by U.S. forces.

Afghani military units were forced into retreat on Monday, and regrouped just outside the city at the Kunduz Airport. Special Forces from the U.S. and other unnamed nations were sent in to bolster the threatened Afghan units.

Early this morning, those Special Forces troops became directly engaged by hostile forces, and an airstrike was called on Taliban positions to neutralize the immediate threat. At least three airstrikes have been carried out in and around the northern Afghan city since Monday, and it is believed that two key insurgent leaders were killed by the strikes.

user posted image

military officials expect the estimated 500 Taliban fighters to be pushed out of the city soon, as they say the offensive, and taking of the city, was more about publicity than actually holding ground.

The Afghan military’s inability to hold the city raises serious questions about the feasibility of President Obama’s 2016 coalition withdrawal deadline. The number of Taliban attacks have have risen around the nation, including attacks inside the nation’s capital of Kabul. The Afghinstan/Pakistan branch of ISIS known as the “Islamic State Khorasan Province” has also been growing rapidly throughout the nation, recruiting members from at least 25 of the 34 provinces. Additionally, the veteran insurgent group Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) has sworn allegiance to the Islamic State and is also taking ground from Afghan government forces in the north.

Su-34: Russia’s Ultimate ISIL-Crushing Machine

user posted image

As Russia begins its air campaign against the self-proclaimed Islamic State terrorist group in Syria, the jet responsible is the Sukhoi Su-34 Fullback, Russia’s secret weapon in the skies.

Developed in the final years of the Cold War, the Su-34 was meant to replace the Russian military’s aging fleet of Su-24 Fencers. Featuring a robust air-to-air self-defense system, the aircraft is a top-of-the-line strike fighter, and this marks the first time it’s been deployed outside of Russia.

Equipped with short-range R-73 dogfighting missiles, the Su-34 also features long-range R-77 air-to-air radar-guided projectiles. In addition, the fighter carries a wide range of air-to-ground missiles. Including the Kh-59ME, Kh-31A, Kh-31P, Kh-29T, Kh-29L, and the S-25LD, these weapons can hit both ground and maritime targets.

The fighter also features the Leninets B-004 array radar. Optimized for air-to-ground operations, the system allows for targeting from over 60 miles away.

Capable of staying aloft for hours, the Su-34 is outfitted for aerial refueling. This gives the aircraft a combat radius of roughly 700 miles.

It’s a fairly large aircraft, with side-by-side seating for the pilots and a 17,600-pound payload. That much weight requires some pretty hefty horsepower to stay airborne, and the Su-34 uses a pair of 27,500-lb. Saturn AL-31F turbofans.

In addition to the Su-34, Russia is also operating Su-24s and Su-30SMs in Syrian airspace.

8 ISIS targets hit during 20 combat flights in Syria – Russian military

QUOTE
“Today, Russian aerospace force jets delivered pinpoint strikes on eight ISIS terror group targets in Syria. In total, 20 flights were made,” spokesperson for the Russian Defense Ministry, Igor Konashenkov, said.

“As a result, arms and fuel depots and military equipment were hit. ISIS coordination centers in the mountains were totally destroyed,” he added.

Konashenkov said that all the flights took place after air surveillance and careful verification of the data provided by the Syrian military. He stressed that Russian jets did not target any civilian infrastructure and avoided these territories.

“Russian jets did not use weapons on civilian infrastructure or in its vicinity,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the Russian military announced the start of air operations in Syria in order to help the goverment fight terrorist forces. Syrian state television named at least seven areas targeted by the air strikes.

They included areas around the cities of Homs and Hama, which are 44 kilometers apart, according to various media reports.

MIT's multi-material MultiFab 3D printer could be used by U.S. military manufacture missiles on battlefield

user posted image

QUOTE
The U.S. Department of Defense’s official science blog released details of a powerful and versatile new 3D printer that can print up to 10 materials at once and embed electronics, circuits and sensors directly into the object, allowing it to create a finished products, from spare parts to war missiles, directly in the field. The 3D printer, known as the MultiFab, was designed by researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) and would retail for just $7,000—significantly less expensive than comparable multi-material 3D printers.

Notorious Russian Separatist Commander Spotted In Syria

user posted image

According to multiple sources, the Russian separatist “Commander Motorola” whose real name is Arseny Pavlov, has been reportedly spotted leading Russian forces in Syria.

Motorola, a Russian citizen, rose to infamy as a successful separatist commander of the “Sparta” battalion during Russia’s proxy siege in eastern Ukraine. It was said that he was a former soldier that was arrested for drunk driving, and volunteered to fight to avoid jail time.

Commander Motorola is wanted for war crimes by the Ukrainian government for allegedly personally executing Ukrainian troops.

He had a high-profile celebrity-esque wedding during his time with the Sparta battalion, and was made popular on Funker530 for his extreme grenade launcher prank, in which he sent dozens of high explosive grenades on to one of his own outposts as a practical joke.

Putin’s Jets In Syria Are Threat To U.S.

user posted image

QUOTE
Seemingly out of nowhere on September 21, they appeared at an air base in Latakia, a regime stronghold in western Syria—28 of the Russian air force’s best warplanes, including four Su-30 fighters and a number of Su-25 attack planes and Su-24 bombers.

Soon six more Su-34 bombers and at least one Il-20 spy plane followed, part of a contingent of Russia forces reportedly including some 500 troops plus armored vehicles and SA-15 and SA-22 surface-to-air missiles.

For U.S. and allied officials observing the deployment, there has been plenty of cause for confusion…and alarm. It’s not just that, more than four years into Syria’s bloody civil war, Russia has decided to jump in and make things more complicated.

No, it’s what kinds of weapons—planes and missiles, especially—Moscow decided to send, and what those weapons say about the Kremlin’s ultimate plan in Syria. Many of them don’t seem to be well-suited to fighting ISIS. They’re built to battle adversaries like the United States.

US Military Displays New Vehicle And It’s Absolutely Amazing

user posted image

The United States’ military has displayed its latest combat vehicle and it’s awesome.

The Amphibious Combat Vehicle is was designed by Lockheed Martin to replace the Marine Corps’ aging amphibious vehicles. The ACV has eight wheels, a six-cylinder turbodiesel engine, and weighs about 20 tons according to Live Science. Lockheed Martin was able to make the 20 ton ACV able to float by designing it so it displaced as much water as it weighed. This allows the ACV to travel through rough water ways and terrain including stormy weather in the ocean. (RELATED: Report Argues That The F-35 Is Totally Inferior To Foreign Fighters)

Lockheed Martin says the ACV can carry up to 15 people with a max speed of 60 mph. The specifications on the Lockheed Martin website also say the ACV can be armed with up to a 30 millimeter cannon. According to David Hunn, the senior fellow and technical director working on Lockheed Martin’s ACV program, all that is required to switch between land and water is the touch of a button saying, “We’re trying to make this where the driver doesn’t have to make a lot of decisions under high pressure. When you hit the dashboard button that says ‘swim,’ everything changes automatically. The wheel works like a regular steering wheel, but it’s now attached to the swim system.”

The design of the ACV hull also always the vehicle to be more blast resistant than a more traditional design. (RELATED: Defense Firm Looks To Resurrect Old Concept: Tank Boats)

There is no specified dates for when people might see the ACV in action, but Hull expects that it could soon be used for rescue missions during disasters such as hurricanes or tsunamis.

Images Suggest China Is Building 1st Indigenous Aircraft Carrier

HONG KONG — New satellite images suggest China has begun work on its first indigenous aircraft carrier, according to a monitoring group.

Photos released Thursday by IHS Jane's Defence Weekly appear to show what they described as an "unidentified hull in an advanced state of construction" in the northeastern city of Dalian.

While the publication stopped short of definitively stating that project was a new aircraft carrier, it noted that "the slow pace of assembly and outline suggests a military hull under construction."

user posted image

It also noted that the Dalian city dry dock where the keel had been laid was the sight of major refitting and repair of China's first aircraft carrier — Liaoning — before it entered service in September 2012.

The Liaoning, a Soviet-era Kuznetsov-class carrier purchased from Ukraine in 1998, has served as a training ship for the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), which is in the process of learning how to operate and integrate carrier-based activities into its operations.

Speculation over China's military build-up in the disputed South China Sea has created diplomatic tension in the region, where several nations including Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia lay claim to the islands.

Last month, IHS Jane's reported that China had completed construction of a two-mile runway on reclaimed land in the area.

Little is known about China's carrier plans and ambitions, but in recent years it has developed fighter aircraft such as the Shenyang J-15.

The Pentagon's 2015 White Paper on China's military capabilities also noted that Beijing "continued to pursue an indigenous aircraft carrier program and could build multiple aircraft carriers over the next 15 years."

U.S. and Malaysian Soldiers close out Keris Strike 2015

TAIPING, Malaysia – Soldiers assigned to 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, “Wolfhounds,” 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division and the 9th Royal Ranger Regiment, Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) stood together for the closing ceremony of Keris Strike 2015, here, on Sept. 22, 2015.

“Keris Strike was a superb team effort that greatly advanced our mutual goals of building capability and improving military readiness for both countries,” said Maj. Gen. Gary Hara, deputy-commanding general, Unites States Army Pacific Command.

During the exercise, the two military forces underwent several combined academic exercises emphasizing techniques and tactics for a jungle environment, patrol base activities along with jungle survival training, culminating with a Field Training Exercise (FTX) in the jungle of Malaysia.

“This [FTX] has been incredible training, we were able to get out into the real deep jungle with a lot of terrain and survive out there for about five days,” said Kevin Williams, commander, 2-27 Inf. Regt., 3rd BCT, 25th ID.

The commander continued to say that he is proud of what his Soldiers have accomplished while representing the United Sates Army and the 25th Infantry Division with the high discipline and standards they have displayed.

As the Wolfhounds were training in Taiping, a staff element of 3rd BCT, 25th ID along with soldiers of 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Malaysian Armed Forces, conducted a command post exercise (CPX) in the city of Ipoh.

The CPX was a simulated humanitarian aid mission that made the two countries work together by sharing each other’s organizational tactics, techniques and procedures in a challenging environment.

Maj. Gen. Gary Hara, deputy-commanding general, United States Army Pacific Command, removes an armband from the commander of the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Malaysian Armed Forces, signifying the end of the exercise

The exercise was designed to enhance the professional relationships, improved bilateral readiness, co-operation and interoperability between the Malaysian and U.S. forces.

“Working together on these complex missions and improving interoperability prepares us to respond effectively together in any capacity in the future,” said Hara.

Keris Strike 2015 was the third and final exercise of the Pacific Pathways mission that took these Soldiers to three countries to train along side three different military forces in diverse environments.

Shen Diao drone could track and guide missiles to US warships

user posted image

Shen Diao, China's new unmanned aerial vehicle also known as the Divine Eagle, could be used to track the location of US aircraft carriers in the Western Pacific and guide DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missiles to their target, according to overseas Chinese news outlet Duowei News.

Shenyang Aircraft Corp and Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group are currently developing two larger versions of unmanned aerial vehicles with sizes comparable to the Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk of the United States. The drones' primary utility will be carrying out reconnaissance missions in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Shen Diao and the Sky Wing III, designed respectively by Shenyang Aircraft Corp and Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group, are both rumored to be capable of tracking large US warships in waters extending from Alaska to the Philippines.

With the assistance of Sky Wing III and Shen Diao, the Second Artillery Corps, the PLA's strategic missile force, will be capable of launching increasingly precise attacks against US warships with its DF-21D missile. The Shen Diao can additionally serve as an early warning aircraft for the PLA Air Force, as it is equipped with a larger radar than the Sky Wing III.

China is currently unable to produce manned early warning aircraft in large numbers as it has not come close to the production capacity for passenger aircraft of the United States. It would neither be advisable to redesign its strategic bomber, the H-6, into a early warning aircraft. This leaves the Shen Diao as China's best fit for the role.

The drones will not enter service until 2020 at the earliest, since their manufacturers have only designed a single prototype for each of the unmanned aerial vehicles, the report said.

Russian Airstrikes in Syria Targeted 'NATO Created Mercenaries'

user posted image

QUOTE
of all it is important to underline the fact that all these terrorist organizations are supported by US intelligence. In fact the mainstream media now has acknowledged that these rebels are supported by the CIA. The Wall Street Journal says Russian airstrikes in Syria targeted CIA-backed rebels.”

“These rebels are terrorists including the al-Nusra Front. What I think is at stake here is that the Russian air force is now waging targeted attacks directed against al-Nusra in coordination with the Syrian government and what the US is saying is that in a way Russia is going after America’s good-guy terrorists rather than the bad-guy terrorist. They are making a distinction between ISIL and other terrorist organizations, all of which are covertly supported by the US,” Chossudovsky told Sputnik.

He went on to say that Russia is targeting the foot soldiers of the western military alliance, “Basically the mercenaries that have been recruited right from the beginning by NATO, the Turkish High Command with the complicity of Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Israel.”

Chossudovsky reminded that in early 2012 Washington categorized al-Nusra as a terrorist organization but now it is supporting al-Nusra front officially.

“Western media is contradicting itself but it is also acknowledging candidly that the CIA is supporting the al-Qaeda affiliated groups inside Syria.”

US, Russia hold military talks to avoid mishaps in Syria

Ukraine-Russia Conflict 2015: US To Send Radar Technology To Ukrainian Military

The equipment to be provided by the U.S. will be Q36 radar systems that can target the point of origin of missiles from between 18-24 kilometers (11-15 miles) away. The equipment is so precise that it can originate the location of a missile or artillery weapon after a single shot.

Nearly 75 percent of the fatalities experienced on the Ukrainian side, according Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, have been because of artillery or missile attacks, and the new radar equipment could be a game changer for the Ukrainian military. The Ukrainian military was attacked by pro-Russian separatists in the Donbass region Wednesday, the Kyiv Post reported. No fatalities have been reported from Wednesday's attack.

Military Grounds Lightweight F-35 Pilots Over Ejection Seat Concerns

concerns over pilot safety during low-speed ejections from the F-35, the military has temporarily restricted pilots who weigh less than 136 pounds from flying the aircraft, according to Defense News in an exclusive report. In August, testers found that pilots under a certain weight faced increased risk of neck injury while ejecting at lower speeds. When used by lightweight pilots, the ejection seat rotates slightly, putting the pilot in a compromising position to eject when the parachute opens.

Send in the Chechens: Ramzan Kadyrov Ready to Go to War in Syria

user posted image

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov is ready to send his men to Syria to fight Islamic State terrorists there, Russian media reported Friday.

“In 1999 when Chechnya was in the hands of these devils, I, as a Muslim, a Chechen and a patriot of Russia, vowed to devote all my life to fighting [the terrorists] everywhere. I ask for permission for us to go to Syria and take part in these special operations there,” Kadyrov told Russian News Service radio on Friday.

He added that it was up President Putin to decide, but added that Chechen soldiers were ready to join in the fight in Syria.

“The moment the terrorists in Syria realize that [Chechen] soldiers are on the way, they will immediately get out of there,” Kadyrov added.
