Any idea on the specs for the patrol vessels? For example size, tonnage or something like that?
*
QUOTE
Meanwhile, Destini Berhad Group chairman, Tan Sri Rodzali Daud, in his speech during the cermony, said the company would build six patrol vessels, measuring 44.25 metres each, for MMEA, with Syarikat Destini Shipbuilding and Engineering Sdn Bhd entrusted to manage and administer the whole project.

He said the six patrol vessels, worth RM381.3 million, would be handed to MMEA in stages starting at the end of December 2016 until June 2018.

He said the coastal patrol vessels could achieve a top speed of 24 knots and would have 41 crew members.

The vessels, he said, would also be equipped with 30mm weapon systems and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) for reconnaissance.

IRGC air force branch's UAV crashed in south west province of Iran

user posted image

QUOTE
A drone has crashed in south-west Iran, the regional governor has told the Fars news agency.

It was not clear if the drone, which crashed near Shush city, in Khuzestan province on Friday, had been shot down by Iran or failed due to technical problems.

Fars news agency quoted the governor of Shush county as saying a foreign surveillance drone had come down. But later the state news agency, IRNA, quoted the same official, Reza Nejati, saying it was an Iranian machine and denying he had ever said otherwise.

“This drone was flying a daily route inside the country,” Nejati was quoted as saying by IRNA, adding that technical issues had brought it down.

In 2014, Iran said it had tested its own unmanned aircraft, reverse-engineered from US drones that it has captured in recent years.

U.S. military helicopter crashes in South Korea, two dead

user posted image

QUOTE
A U.S. Apache helicopter crashed in central South Korea on Monday, killing its pilot and another crew member, police and military officials said.

The attack helicopter went down in the county of Wonju in Gangwon province, the officials said.

About 28,500 U.S. troops are stationed in South Korea in joint defense with the South's forces against North Korea. The two Koreas are in a technical state of war under a truce after their 1950-53 Korean War.

On Monday, South Korea's military conducted artillery live-fire drills on islands near a disputed maritime border with North Korea, ignoring Pyongyang's threat to fire back if any of the shells landed in its waters.

An Air Force Research Laboratory-sponsored X-56A unmanned air vehicle crashed Nov. 19 at approximately 9:30 Pacific Daylight Time on Rogers Dry Lakebed test range at Edwards AFB, California. The mishap occurred shortly after takeoff.

Initial estimates report severe damage to the vehicle. There are no reports of injuries or property damage at this time. Edwards AFB emergency responders were on scene.

An accident investigation team has been established to investigate what occurred, identify lessons learned and determine how to move forward.

The X-56A is an experimental unmanned multi-utility technology test-bed designed to demonstrate active flutter suppression and gust load alleviation in flight. The aircraft previously made 16 successful flights spending approximately six hours in the air.

Afghan Taliban ambush chopper after emergency landing; 3 die

user posted image

QUOTE
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Taliban insurgents on Tuesday ambushed a military-contracted helicopter that made an emergency landing in northwestern Afghanistan, killing three people in a shootout and capturing 16 others who were on board, Afghan officials said.

Defense Ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri confirmed the helicopter had gone down in Faryab province, which has been the scene of heavy fighting between the Taliban and Afghan security forces. He would not say where the helicopter was headed or who was on board, and it was not immediately clear why the helicopter was forced to land there.

But an army officer in Faryab, insisting on anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media the media, said the civilian aircraft had been contracted to transport army personnel. He said that after it landed, Taliban fighters rushed to the area, sparking the shootout and then seizing everyone on board. They later burned the chopper, he added.

"Three people have been killed and 16 others are captured by Taliban," said Ramatullah Turkistani, a member of the provincial council in Faryab.

Col. Michael T. Lawhorn, spokesman for the U.S. support mission in Afghanistan, said the U.S. military had no reports of any Americans on board the helicopter that was attacked.

US Air Force F-16 crashes in New Mexico; pilot uninjured

user posted image

QUOTE
The 49th Wing has confirmed there were no injuries involved when an F-16 Fighting Falcon crashed today at approximately 8:45 a.m. northwest of Salinas Peak near Truth or Consequences, N.M.

The crash site is in a remote location in rugged terrain. Travel to the crash site is discouraged until further notice.
The pilot successfully ejected and was transported to a local medical facility.

He is assigned to the 314th Fighter Squadron at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M. No live munitions were on board the aircraft.

The $25 million aircraft was a single-seat model and part of a normal training mission from Holloman Air Force Base. The aircraft was operating in military airspace over the White Sands Missile Range. All flying operations for the day have ceased and will resume following the Thanksgiving holiday.

An Air Force safety investigation board will be formed to determine the exact cause of the crash. The team will be selected based on knowledge of various specialties needed for an F-16 crash.

Air Force drone crashes in Afghanistan

user posted image

QUOTE
An armed U.S. Air Force MQ-9 Reaper drone crashed in a remote area near Bagram Air Field Tuesday night, military officials said.

The $14 million remotely piloted aircraft went down at about 7:10 p.m., according to an Air Force statement issued Wednesday.

“There is no indication of injuries or damage to civilian property as a result of the crash,” the statement said. “The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, but enemy fire was not a factor.”

The aircraft was operated out of Kandahar Air Field, more than 300 miles away in southern Afghanistan, by the 451st Air Expeditionary Group, part of the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing, said wing spokesman Capt. Bryan Bouchard.

“The aircraft went down in a remote area away from any civilian population centers and it was a total loss,” Bouchard said. “The munitions on board were also destroyed with the aircraft.” Citing the total destruction of the Reaper, officials decided that it “did not necessitate a physical securing of the site,” he said.
