Mobile Protected Firepower: BAE Systems will exhibit a solution to meet the U.S. Army’s proposed requirement for a Mobile Protected Firepower capability, which would involve an expeditionary light tank that could be air-dropped from a C-130 aircraft. The company’s solution is based on the purpose-built M8 Armored Gun System, modernized with mature technologies from the CV90 family of infantry fighting vehicles and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

The Puma Mk2 helicopter crashed as it was landing at Nato's Resolute Support mission headquarters, Kabul. Nato has not released the nationalities of the other victims or the five left injured.

I have got a question, in Malaysia, what are the circumstances that would allow for civilians to salute?
*
DYMM, Defence minister and veterans can give formal salute, other than that I don't think so
Though its not like its a law or anything, not like its going to make you in trouble if you suddenly saluted a military personnel

Unless if you're US marines, they take it seriously this kind of thing

what about placing right hand on the heart when saluting flag? Westerners and even Singaporeans do this a lot when facing the flag (when it is raised, lowered especially)

That is up to individuals, there is no such protocol except than standing up straight on such events
Local athletes can be seen doing this on podium, again up to individuals

A US Navy pilot has died in an F-18 jet crash in the Fens in Cambridgeshire, close to an RAF base.

The hornet crashed on farm land in Redmere, near Ely, close to the Suffolk border, with the alarm raised at 10:30 BST.

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed the pilot, the only crew member, died.

The aircraft had taken off from RAF Lakenheath, but was not connected to the base.

It crashed four miles from RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk.

Amateur aviation enthusiast Roger Smith told BBC Radio Suffolk that the F-18 was one of a group of Hornet Marine Corps planes that were heading back to the US from the Middle East.

They arrived at Lakenheath over the weekend and four of them took off this morning.

Danish F-16 crashes into North Sea

user posted image

QUOTE
The Danish Defence Command said in a press release that an F-16 fighter jet went down into the North Sea off the coast of the western island of Rømø at around 2.30pm on Tuesday.

The pilot of the jet had to use his ejector seat and was later rescued by a Danish Royal Air Force helicopter. The pilot was not seriously injured in the incident, which Defence Command said was due to faulty landing gear.

“The most important thing for me is that the pilot is in good health. Our pilots are trained for this, but it is an intense experience and he will get all of the support he needs,” Anders Rex, the head of the Fighter Wing Skrydstrup  airbase in southwestern Denmark, said.

British Army Watchkeeper UAV crash lands at Boscombe Down airbase

user posted image

QUOTE
AN unmanned Army spyplane has crashed landed at MOD Boscombe Down.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the Watchkeeper drone — one of eight currently being tested from the base — suffered extensive damage last night.

The £1.2billion fleet of drones is under testing and it is expected to come into operation in 2017.

Nobody was injured in the incident and an investigation has been launched.

An Army spokesman said: "I can confirm that on November 2 an Army Watchkeeper unmanned aerial system was involved in an incident on landing at Boscombe down airfield.

"A comprehensive investigation will be completed by the Defence safety Authority [the Military Aviation Authority], therefore, it would be inappropriate to offer any additional comment at this point."

The drone was on a routine training exercise. In operation the planes, which are radio controlled from the ground, can stay in the air continuously for 16 hours offering surveillance and reconnaissance for troops.

Rebels shot down government warplane in Syria

user posted image

QUOTE
Rebels shot down a Syrian government warplane with anti-aircraft fire on Wednesday in the western province of Hama, forcing its pilot to eject, a monitoring group and an insurgent media spokesman said.

The pilot died after his parachute failed, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Rebels have brought down government aircraft before in Syria's civil war but only rarely as they lack significant anti-aircraft capability. They have stepped up calls to be supplied with anti-aircraft missiles since Russia's air force intervened on the side of President Bashar al-Assad in the conflict.

The Syrian air force jet was downed in northwest Hama, near the town of Kafr Nabuda, where fighting has been raging between insurgents and government forces backed by air cover.

Rebels had late on Tuesday taken over Tel Othman, a hill nearby, said the Observatory, which monitors Syria's civil war using a network of sources on the ground.

A media spokesman for a rebel group operating in the area under the banner of the Free Syrian Army said it had shot the plane down.

"We targeted the (Russian-built) MiG aircraft while it was striking rebel positions on the front of Kafr Nabuda. We shot at it with our medium machine guns," Yasser Shehadeh of the al-Wosta division told Reuters via Internet messaging.

"One of the shots hit the plane, and we saw smoke coming out of it, then it crashed... near a regime-held area... we don't know about the fate of the pilot, but he probably got killed."
