QUOTE(cstkl1 @ May 19 2020, 08:43 PM)
i wonder.. is it because of the insane phase/vrm config atm that contributing to super stable power delivery by distributing the heat...

ASUS
EXTREME 16x90A
FORMULA/APEX 16x70A
HERO 14+2 x 60A
STRIX 14+2 x 50A

MSI GODLIKE 16+1 x 90A
MSI ACE 16 + 1 x 90A
MSI UNIFY 16 x 90A
MSI UNIFY ITX 8 x 90A

GIGA EXTREME/WATERFORCE/MASTER - 16 x 90A
GIGA MASTER - 14 x 90A
GIGA AUROUS ULTRA - 12 x 55A

ASROCK Taichi 12+3 x 50A

the numbers are just nuts... for a possible 300w cpu.
some of  the vrm/phases are like those on the refreshed x299 / TRX4

MSI going all out with 90Amps

just for comparison
the z390 formula hd like 8+2 phase 50A....
*

Those phases might be overkill, perhaps we don't even need more than 12 phases for LN2 LOL biggrin.gif
Look at EVGA Z490 DARK, it will have just 12 x 60A probably to destroy those 16-phase boards.
But I believe to cater for insanely OCed 10-core 10900K, hence the 90A is there for robust supply of power, high effectiveness and good quality MOSFETs for better heat tolerances.
BTW, it's been a long while since we last heard about OCF, where's Nick Shih?

Wei dat evga board 10layer e-atx 18 phases..its totally bonkers.

From what i read msi gone teamed config.. so its the same as asus but not sure got doublers or not.

Also looks like because they got whipped on the x570 on vrm.. this time out they beefed everything.

Most probably married. Kids. Realized asrock paying him do extra work foc. .. lol

Another note
Extreme, hero and strix all come with vrm fan

Another interesting part

The xii hero=X570 hero= z390 apex ignore the igpu part. Its like they just said F u buildzoid and did this. Lol
*
EVGA Z490 DARK has 12 phases of 60A vCore MOSFETs hehe. The rest are power phases for iGPU, SA, IO.
Z490 Formula/Extreme/Apex has 16 x 70A/90A/70A respectively.

It turns out that ASRock played tricks on HWBot scoreboards.
They are using an unofficial 2-DIMM Z490 Aqua for submission, which is unethical because using the same name as the 4-DIMM retail board. This is cheating!

Average 8700K @ 5GHz should be 1.30-1.35v.
20c is a huge drop, my 8700K only dropped 11c after delidding.

2nd chip is slightly better in terms of voltage and thermal performance.

Sorry guys for being less active in this thread recently, been busy with MCO stuffs (working in a pharma factory that produces medicines)...

Okay, let's get back to benching again. Here's my short OC results with the Z490 AORUS Master board (it's now on sale in LYN garage sales in case you missed it).

user posted image

From my testing, the AORUS Master requires the same load vCore as the ROG Formula, at least in one loop of CB R20 benchmark. For example at 5.2/4.7GHz core/uncore all-core OC:

Maximus XII Formula:1.261v
Z490 AORUS Master: 1.265v

user posted image

While I was a bit upset with the ROG Formula on RAM OC, in which I encountered inconsistent stability with 4x8GB B-die RAM at DDR4-4133 CL17-17-17 (even with auto timings), the AORUS Master however allows me to achieve stability with excellent repeatability. According to a renown overclocker that I managed to contact, Z490 board ranking in terms of ease of RAM OC would be MSI > GBT > ASUS > ASRock. There's been an issue of B-die inconsistency on Z490 especially on populated 4-DIMM slots.

* Ignore the wrong tFAW. doh.gif

2-DIMM RAM OC on the AORUS Master is awesome as well, maxing out at 4700 CL18.
On ROG Formula, I only managed to stabilize the RAM up to 4400 17-17-17-37 @ 1.50v. Higher than that is not stable, failing TM5 almost instantly. Suspect is the wrong ODT training.

Wouldn't be the first time for ASUS. Perhaps it can be narrowed down to a specific memory pcb type or have you ruled that out, already?

Great testing, you've got some great dedication towards Intel if you spent your own money on this gen with couple boards.
Don't bother about tFAW anything less than x4 is subbed anyways as you surely know.
*

Don't know bro, maybe B-die chip itself or PCB.
Btw, my 4266 sticks are 2019+2020, same strength based on my initial testing.

I remember ASUS having issues on 2-DIMM boards with a2 pcb layout some time back.
But I kinda doubt this would happen to them across 'board' again on an entire platform.
*

Edit, I'm not aware of ASUS having issue with 2 DIMM board with A2 PCB. I only know previous ASUS boards using T-topology DIMM layout, which favors 4 DIMM over 2 DIMM at high RAM speeds. On T-topo with 2 DIMM, you can go up to DDR4-4133 only. Higher than that says 4266 you will need 4 sticks otherwise it won't boot. Now all Z490/X570 ASUS decided to go for Daisy-chain layout, so 2x8GB 4266+ is now possible.

Ye I noticed these sticks, saw one kit up for sale where you said you were going for the new 17-18-18-38 4400s Royals.
I also wanna play with one more kit before DDR5 times but Teamgroup is pretty much not approachable in Malaysia, neither directly nor though dealers.
Guess I'll have to order that one overseas, as well.

I have contact of Team's rep straight from Taiwan HQ, or at least I can ask local media reviewers to check out for you.
Build Tech is one of the local distros for Team.
What specific kit are you interested at?
