Unfortunately the console does not power on although I have checked everything, and rechecked again.
Anyone knows where I can get the problem diagnosed and repaired?

Recently, my uncle gave me his six year old Sega Dreamcast and it's a real classic, I've been wanting to play it.

Forget about it. No more DC parts here. Mine kong like 4 years ago. Sent it to the tech, he says the mainboard fried (very common with DC), cannot fix. I didn't even bother taking it back.
You have better luck finding a used one that works honestly. |

good luck in getting it fixed/getting a 2nd hand unit! it's a damn good machine!
Anyway, I have no clue whether my Dreamcast is modded or not... was there such a thing? I know i had to use a Boot disc, and then the later games didn't need the bootdisc for booting... now... the thing is, i wanna play different region games... think it's possible? can the boot disc be used to boot different region games? |

I'm still new to the Dreamcast scene, although it's quite old... I knew a few games needed the bootdisc, but WHY is my primary concern.
Aren't there any shops in Sungei Wang that offer repairs? I don't mind sending it overseas, as long it's not at the other side of the earth |

If you lookin for a 2nd hand DC try to look around at PJ Old Town. I saw one over there. Priced around $300 plus. I'm not sure whether they could repairs yours though. Good luck. By the way... Skies of Arcadia is one heck of a game!

Well, if you're from Penang, I would have asked you to go to Ace Electronics, Komtar, they can fix any consoles including classing ones like Neo Geo CD.
You can get a brand new Dreamcast from http://www.gamechoiceclub.com |

Hmmm. Could be the power board. May I ask what region is your console? I used to have a problem related to the power board. My suggestion would be to try changing/repairing the power board. Not that it's easy to find one, though. There used to be many shops in Sg Wang that sell Dreamcast power boards.

It's a Japanese Revision 1 console. I opened the Dreamcast, but up to the top cover to check if there was anything odd (I didn't dare go further) but there was nothing. Tried twitching with the switch plugs if there were loose but still no startup. |

Is there any light on your Dreamcast? It could be your power board, you might probably fried it if you didn't use a stepdown transformer since your Dreamcast is the Japanese version using 110V.

Nah, nonsense, I know them personally, they can fix any consoles, if the repairs are expensive, they'll let you know. You can contact Ah Hin at 016-4815555 or his shop's number is 04-2623707. He many many Dreamcast spare parts including the optical lens, hope you can solve the problem for you.

Maybe I misheard. |

RM170? I think you probably misheard lah, the lens already RM150 only, how can the power board more expensive than the lens itself.
Alternatively, you can buy the power board yourself from AI Trading Hong Kong, http://www.goldenshop.com.hk and they carry all spare parts for it. The power board looks easy to replace... As an alternative I could order one from the site and do it myself, that is if the power board is the culprit.
Again, thanks sunauto. |

Crap, DjiNn just told me that the power board's dead, and there are no spare parts for it. Looks like I have to order one on my own.
