Recently, my uncle gave me his six year old Sega Dreamcast and it's a real classic, I've been wanting to play it. tongue.gif

Unfortunately the console does not power on although I have checked everything, and rechecked again.

Anyone knows where I can get the problem diagnosed and repaired? smile.gif

I'm still new to the Dreamcast scene, although it's quite old... I knew a few games needed the bootdisc, but WHY is my primary concern. smile.gif

Aren't there any shops in Sungei Wang that offer repairs? I don't mind sending it overseas, as long it's not at the other side of the earth tongue.gif I'm sure some company in Asia does it. smile.gif

If you lookin for a 2nd hand DC try to look around at PJ Old Town. I saw one over there. Priced around $300 plus. I'm not sure whether they could repairs yours though. Good luck. By the way... Skies of Arcadia is one heck of a game!

Thanks for the tip. smile.gif

By the way, DjiNn's helping me to take a look at my Dreamcast soon. I hope that he can get it repaired. smile.gif

Well, if you're from Penang, I would have asked you to go to Ace Electronics, Komtar, they can fix any consoles including classing ones like Neo Geo CD.  rclxms.gif

You can get a brand new Dreamcast from http://www.gamechoiceclub.com

Hehe, thanks a lot sunauto! I'll remember to take a look there when I head up to Penang. smile.gif

what is ur dreamcast problem. last time, my dc act like not enough power. when i turn it on, the orange light appear but not bright enough and nothing appear on tv screnn. after that i open up the dc and find the problem with my little knowledge in electronic. i found out the problem coz by the power board connector a bit loose. so i just "sendal" it. and my dc still going strong till today.i dont think it worth to repair ur dc. unless u have alot of money to waste tongue.gif  coz the cost should be sky high coz spareparts for dc are very very limited now

Wow, that's real lucky for you. Mine can't even power up at all. sad.gif

Hmmm. Could be the power board. May I ask what region is your console? I used to have a problem related to the power board. My suggestion would be to try changing/repairing the power board. Not that it's easy to find one, though. There used to be many shops in Sg Wang that sell Dreamcast power boards.
*
It's a Japanese Revision 1 console. smile.gif

I opened the Dreamcast, but up to the top cover to check if there was anything odd (I didn't dare go further) but there was nothing. Tried twitching with the switch plugs if there were loose but still no startup. sad.gif

Is there any light on your Dreamcast? It could be your power board, you might probably fried it if you didn't use a stepdown transformer since your Dreamcast is the Japanese version using 110V.
*
There isn't any light. I used two stepdown transformers that are confirmed to work but it still doesn't power on.

Nah, nonsense, I know them personally, they can fix any consoles, if the repairs are expensive, they'll let you know. You can contact Ah Hin at 016-4815555 or his shop's number is 04-2623707. He many many Dreamcast spare parts including the optical lens, hope you can solve the problem for you.  thumbup.gif

Thanks heaps sunauto, I'll give them a call one day and see what they can do. smile.gif I'm just hoping they don't charge a lot. tongue.gif

A week and a half till SPM's over... then I got all the time to fix it up. smile.gif

Just gave Ah Hin a call. He said that the power board is most probably faulty, and quoted me RM170. sad.gif

Maybe I misheard. tongue.gif

revision 1 ? hmm hows the cooling system on it looking like ?
*
According to a website, there is a single digit number that tell you what revision it is under the console, next to the PAL or NTSC label.

Just a simple 40mm x 40mm fan on the down right side with a small vent to the opening of the casing, that's all. smile.gif

The power board looks easy to replace... As an alternative I could order one from the site and do it myself, that is if the power board is the culprit. smile.gif

Again, thanks sunauto. happy.gif

Crap, DjiNn just told me that the power board's dead, and there are no spare parts for it. Looks like I have to order one on my own. sad.gif
