I'm ashamed of the way I took pictures of my laptop lol. Well the specs already stated before this lol.

Your thread is one of the worst post in this section. Look here we're trying to help you and you're just posting a photo of your keyboard layout and letting us guess your model? There are many ways/softwares to tell us your laptop specs like Device Manager, dxdiag to tell GPU, CPU-z to tell us your CPU, HWinfo to tell us your system specs and temps.

Take in white light pls... doesn't seem 17

It certainly doesn't look like an Alienware especially i see a bright power button on the top right of the keyboard and the keyboard layout doesn't matches Alienware 15/17 models with its directional key stick together with the ctrl, shift and num pad BUT just the lcd front panel is label Alienware. Besides, even IF it is a Alienware 17, the minimum graphic card it comes with should be AT LEAST GTX 765M MXM.

Not even clone, they just put a logo in a normal laptop.

To be honest. TS, what is the point of you thread? I mean, what is your intention? The photo you showing is not whole laptop. Is just a keyboard and a little bit of screen showing Alienware word. ohmy.gif

Based on the keyboard layout, I can 101% confirm that is not Alienware. Is some kind of laptop with the logo below the screen.

yeah. that's not aw.

the keyboard looks weird. the power button looks weird. there is an alien head beside aw wording on display panel. not sure about much older models, but based on stock gpu, a 750m, it should be newer than m17x r4. afaik there is no alien head beside that aw wording since r1?

Guys, I did mention I got it somewhere it from China. The second thing is, I thought I attached two pictures of my laptop, end up there's only one picture attached. So "Worst post" in the section. That's VERY polite of you, the one with anime girl as profile picture. smile.gif

Conclusion : Yes I"m using a fake alienware, if I were using a legit one, I wouldn't even bother to upgrade a 17" alienware. So please, I'm not here for insults, wouldn't be nice if I started some unnecessary comeback to you as well. Just here for recommendations/opinions to see if its possible to upgrade the GPU. The specs are NVDIA GT750M, with Intel HD 4600. 16GB DDR3 Ram, Intel i7-4710MQ CPU @ 2.50GHz (As I said, I did mention this).

But really thank you for all the so far opinion/advice for the alternatives GPU though. Just not too sure if it fits with the interior part, so I might take a picture of the inside if its better? Or is there any shops/experts I can actually go in person in Selangor/KL areas lol.

Oh, then I suppose your's is not using MXM type of GT750m. Your card is soldered on the motherboard. Only few laptop brand in the world using MXM graphics card in their highend laptop series. That is MSI, Clevo (Terrenforce, Sager, Illegear, Eurocom, All same), Alienware and Dell Precision workstation.

you should have told everyone up front that's it's not aw. just be frank. what comeback? if you need help, we will help. it's as simple as that.

like now, since it's an unknown model, we cannot give good inputs to you if we do not know which model this laptop is. we don't know if that 750m is soldered to the mobo or not; or if a standard mxm card can fit, if it has mxm slot. (it might be a custom sized card) we are also not sure if gpu cooling system (heat sink, fans, etc.) can handle heat from higher end cards or not, or the power brick for your laptop can supply enough power to run the new card.

Umm, from the Device Manager, it just says its using NVIDIA GeForce GT750M , so I have no idea if its an MXM or it's not. But I can take a picture of the interior...? If its easier.

I thought refurbished was like an "built" model according to some legit gaming laptop lol. The comeback part was targeting the rude one. You may please ignore that :/ and uh, I'll try to open the interior and also try to find anything else that can help to identify(With pictures of course). But thanks in advance thumbup.gif

From your picture, it shows Alienware word at your monitor.

But I'm still kind of fishy, can you send the model series of your laptop by running DxDiag ("Run-->type "DxDiag") then take a screenshot or use snipping tool provide by windows itself?

no wonder you thought it's a custom one. a refurbished unit means legit aw that has been rectified for whatever reasons (external or internal stock parts usually), and has gone through factory certification to become fully functional again.

yes you can take pictures of its internals and show it to us. we might be able to use that to see if the gpu is a soldered one. however, i hope you understand that laptops are not desktop computers. due to their compact forms, each model has different internal designs. knowing the specs, or looking at images alone, will not help much, because they are not designed to be the same. the differences are simply physical (thickness, height, shape, etc.). for instance, some users bought wrong msata ssd because they thought the manual said so. what the manual didn't tell them was that msata ssd comes with 2 sizes. the one that can fit in is half-sized, not those full-sized found in retail market. (see? even if we stick to so-called standards, we can still make mistakes)

as for a laptop gpu, like i said previously there are also other factors involved. even if it can be done, you might end up wasting money.

as for the rest of misunderstandings, just chill and forget it. i feel the same frustrations sometimes (too little information is given to help us help people solve a problem). they choose to voice it out, i choose to ignore such threads entirely.

Hahaha its definitely fishy. They claim to be a "straight out from factory" as usual those 3 piece bullshit. So I got it, once arrived, I know I'm pretty much fucked. But so far gaming issues were really fine just that I can't seem to play new high end games (since its been 2 years old already). Pretty worth for 2.5k ringgit lol. Attached Dxdiag btw.

I've already attached the interior part. Honestly, I can't see the GPU ._. maybe its the plate under?

Yeah because that's what they told me (the seller), Can't seem to do anything now cause they closed down(Probably got caught lol). And yes, Well noted on the laptop customization is so much less flexible compared to the Desktop. Was told (more like learnt) about the heating and size issues. But some friends told me to ask here and give it a try, so I came here lol. I'm pretty chilled btw, actually I'm grateful for all the help and explanation so far. Thanks haha rclxms.gif

It's soldered. The one closer to the fan is gpu. The furthest is cpu.

Base from your picture, it seems ur GPU is molded to the MOBO. There is no way you can upgrade ur inboard GPU since no MXM socket on ur MOBO.

But if you......

Holy shit this is so f*cking boss. I'll look deeper into this, might not even have to worry about the over heating issues and slot size issues. But then, GPU needs like *That amount of Ram/CPU* to support it or no?
