I don't think rat shit is smelly. It is the urine. Dry rat shit actually quite odourless.

I only keep female rats, so their smell is quite minimal with regular maintenance. Male rats smell much stronger. As for mice, I have 2 pairs and they really poop and pee a lot, very smelly.

I kept hamster before, smell is bearable. Rats and mice, I have them in hundreds. Actually mice have a unique smell, difficult to describe it, smell a bit like pandan leaves.

In my faculty's Animals house, the mice smell more bad compare to rats. i kept about 40 rats under my study and all of them are male..yes, they poo a lot but the smells is lesser compare to mouse.

1. Mice smell worst than rats.
2. Rats never smell like pandan leave. Mice have this musk smell. It does smell a bit like pandan leave.

Kembara, diificult lah but not impossible. If house rats are rare , sure there will people who gonna tame it. that's how we have fancy rats.

I caught a very young house rat before. It was the size of Snowball.

I think the house rats can be tame...but u must start from their babies. hard to gets but if i not forget, we use to cought 3-4 house rats babies last time during store cleaning. it was 4-5 years ago...and of course, all of them got killed.
