kekawan semua,
nie ada nak tanya sikit pasal ikan gupy aku, memule dulu setup 2 kaki aquarium + pokok hidup, problem bila bnyak campor2 beli dr kedai berlainan dah kene white spot.

Added on May 3, 2009, 12:16 pmif u punye tanks tak biasa tambah garam beter start tambah sikit sikit sampai sukatan tertentu depends u punye water voloum ....kalau sick fish boleh banyak sikit biasanye i tambah 1 tsp garam / 5-6 liter air lo...sick fish boleh double sukatan.garam can act as anti-septic agent dan promote slime coat kat ikan yang stress. and kene guna rock salt bukan cooking salt k

hi balitong u can keep both fish togather harmonicaly, provided there are suffision space for them, It is better to seperate them if the aquarium is small or less then 1 ft and u have many fish in there

the first fish u put into the fish tank will be more dominance then the later so they become more teretorial and will pick or chase off other fish. which is bad for guppy with big flowing tail that after got nip by other fish the wound will become infected and cost death to the guppy

alamak doh.gif why released

if u have agressive females try take that female out and put in a small cointainer for fews day and leave the males in the main tank then re-introduce her back to the male

or buy more male to court with her this will makes her less dominent in the tanks.

if u interested to see and up bring fries u can get a prehit females from lfs the 1 got the biggest stomach with black gravid spot above anal fin on the female this are females guppy that sure going to give birth soon.... sometimes they just drop fries during ur way home lol thumbup.gif

with big femles >3cm we can have 2-3 males courting with no problem coz big tail guppy males will have dificulty chasing to mate with big females de if ur females < 2cm then will get haress too much with 2-3 males the best is still with 3 males to 2 females or viseversa lah

happy guppy hunting then

wow im nt into guppy that much i jus have fancy guppies the male ones red tail that kind.. I used to have snakeskin though but many of them died dunno why... Now i have 2 males and damn many female... I let them breed on their own normally 1 batch about 5 will survive so its not overcrowding the tank.. watching them grow is fun
*
im sure u have see and got many interesting guppy form keeping them. in the same time they will keep suprised u from watching the male guppy color up ,changing color ,developing marking and show off thier fancy tails when courting with females and see fries birthing too

There are few factor that cause guppy death
overcowding tat lead to leathel compound like amonia acumulating in fish tank

introduction off bacteria or pathogent from introdusing new fish in to old tank

temperature or ph change drastically when changing water

water change with out conditioner or aging .....and so on ...... whistling.gif

with that 2 males u can do a lil breeding de
off coz with at least 3 fish tanks and 1 bucket whistling.gif

what do you guys fed your guppies? which is the best brand & food for them? & do you guys fed them treats? if yes what & which brand? i know there are treats such as shrimps & worms but its hard to buy alive ones...do they sell dry dead ones? would like to know what you guys fed them & which is the best you feel for guppies to eat  smile.gif
*
it really depends on wat are ur aiming in keeping guppys lah
for pleasure ,or breeding for pure strain or show/competition??

I feed combination off few brands off pellet fish food fomulated for guppy like iciban, shanyu, hikari, spectrum aiming at 40-48%protien since guppy or omnivor but fries i feed microworms for 3-7 day then bbs untill they can consume crush pellet.

worms like tubifix and blood worms can buy frozen and also dry freeze 1 from lfs a lil pricy but good to feed to adult fish.

im not aiming for show/compatition so optimum growth food is not feed but i have good result using just hikari

MALE guppy can live up to 1 year were females 3years max when they live this long they are less attractive and productive like our grand parent brows.gif

Hey guys~ Good news! My female guppy just gave birth to more than 20 fries yesterday!! (How cool is that?)

So my nano tank is now looking a bit crowded but Im planning to move them to somewhere else when they get bigger.

So what do the fries eat? How do I feed them? Currently Im giving my guppy those micro sand-like fish food.
*
CONGRAz at the moment u can leave the fry in the tank if ur tank is heavly planted
planted tank will provide some early food for the fries coz im sure there will be present of rotifier from decay plant matter tat fries can eat.

after 2-3 week the fry will be strong and bigger to eat the fish food u put in.if u see they can't take in then crush the fish food and dust it around ur tank .

if u move out the fries better get some fries powder tat thier tiny mouth can consume in size by micro whistling.gif

without d oxygen pump they seemed to die faster.....  rclxub.gif

the "pond" is a shallow dish actually. under 1ft at the deepest point.

yes, we use antichlorine.  we hv even tried letting the water "stand" for a day before putting the fish in...
*
how many litter/gallon water does the pond hold and how many fish u put in there??

I think better leave the pum on but cover or wrap up the pump inlet to avoid ur fish got stuck or suck in.

if u have condition and age the water that should be fine to add in the fish. provided u acclimate the fish to ur pond water slowly.

QUOTE(Tiger I @ Jan 31 2011, 04:43 PM)
Hello, new here. I for one breed guppies for my industrial training. Regarding the water quality and space, it's all in good order. Ive given life feed ie microworm and bloodworm and flakes as well. So far it's going well, and have given birth up to 150 fries.

But, now after nearly a month, most of females died, leaving only the males (1m:2f in a DIY hapa-like breeding pen). I'm suspecting myriads of causes of death, which include:

Inbreeding: will make the strains naturally weaker and die
inbreeding doesn't makes ur fish weaker generally in 1-2 generation. inbreeding will only cost deformities if the fish u pick have deformities genes. inbreeding is widely used in guppy breeding to fix a strains when the fish parental is unknown

Early breeding: usually guppies are left to breed after 3-4 months, but some can breed early. Early breeding might shortens its lifespan
yes early breeding does shortens the guppy lifespan. some deformities (bent spine) only show up when fish getting mature.  tat why its better to starts breeding at 3-4 month time. weakness in early breeding  can be compassionate with good husbandry and nutrition to prolong the females guppy lifespan

High level of nitrites: this I didn't check in my breeding pens
put some plant in the breeding pens like water sprite this can help lower the nitrites level to acceptance level. at the sometimes  provide food and hiding place for small fry

Stock from local fish store: I got my guppies mostly from Jalan Pasar at RM1 each. Well, that is the most feasible location for me as AI located in Subang is quite far. Nevertheless, AI got quite lovely guppies for an affordable price range.

Lacking of beneficial bacteria: I could use some pointers regarding this if you guys wouldn't mind to share.
u can set up a filter system or have under gavel to increase the beneficial bacteria level. either can have them cycle slowly nor speed up the bio load with conditioner. there are many brand off bio conditioner to choose for ur convenience at lfs just ask the seller and do more research .

Do correct me, I'm quite lacking in experience and needed skill in culturing ornamental fish.
*
this are some pointer from my exp in guppy keeping. its fun to keep guppy and breeding them ....even create or design ur on strains ... the possibility is endless

hi everyone...would like to check with you guys..what is the difference between albino skyblue guppy and albino blue tuxedo guppy?

they seem to be very similar...hopefully guppy sifu here can tell..smile.gif
*
they do look the same in a glance but u can tell the diferrent sky blue albino will have more reflective scale at the 1/2 body/pudencle as like japan blue guppy so the light blue are cover from 1/2 body to the tails where else albino blue tux show transparent 1/2 body and a lil opac at the base and the tail only are in light blue. they are the same stains as albino tuxedo tho

Thanks for your reply maxtee. I think I figured the cause of death for my guppies: stock from local fish store. I reckon they're old guppies. As for today which is nearly 3 months, I've tried culturing the remaining fries which in turn turned into adults and already reproduce. It seems they don't have any mortality yet, and they reproduce like there is no tomorrow, haha biggrin.gif
*
good time to do selective breeding
