check past replies. this got to do with nitrite cycle... you can make the cycle faster by adding the solution (x remember the name) or let the aquarium established and complete the cycle in a week or two, then only add in fish

hi guys .. last Saturday I brought home 15+ guppies from the 1U event. So, I went to aquaria shop to buy a tank, a water filter and oxygen pump as well as antichlorine. However, i found at least 1 guppy dying everyday ... why is it so ?? What have I not done right ?? Sad to see the guppy dying one by one each day. Today i found 2 dead in the tank .. why???

To all the new Guppy fans.

When you first purchase your guppies and your new Aquarium Tank.

1.Before you add in your guppy make sure you put the plastic in the new tank water for 10 minutes before releasing the guppy into the tank.

2. Make sure you mix the water from the original packing into your new tank water.

3. Don't put in too much anti chlorine.

3 simple steps to ensure the survival of your new guppies.

HI there Syrian,

This is what also happened to me.
I bought a new aquarium for my little guppies and one by one died.
You know what is the reason?
Just like wat KimiKewl advised its all about the nitrite cycle.
When buying new aquarium you can't immediately put in the fishes.
You need to let the water run for about a few days to one week.
After Kimikewl's advised, I googled and read all about the nitrite cycle.
Please don't buy anymore guppies like I did.
I let the water run for a few days and then only bought new guppies.
I am happy to say that I am no longer a guppy killer tongue.gif
My guppies are swimming happily in my new aquarium.
They are such a beautiful sight to see.
Good luck!

What type of water you're using?

I'm using filtered water. Tap water is a no no as they contain all kind of contamination.

I didn't have to wait for the nitrate to cycle, just filtered water, add in a bit of anti chlorine, add a bit of nutrafin water conditioner, put the plastic bag in the new water for 10 minutes in order for the fish to get use to the water temp and later pour all in.

All means the LFS water and fish into the new tank.

My guppies didn't die.

In fact they even gave birth to fried so many times already.

No... what I meant was put the water, anti chlorine and aquarium salt into the aquarium and let the water run for a few days with the filter on. Just empty tank.
After a few days only then put the fishes into the tank.

oh .. i read some articles up in google ... It says to fill up the tank, put anti chlorine, etc and turn on the filter for at least 2 weeks. And also to put some flakes (food) in every 12 hours to keep the ammonia going so that the nitrate bacteria will grow. Now i know wud to do ... but sad coz my fish left a few only ... more than 15 died sad.gif.

sorry to hear your guppies.

Also beware, guppies won't survive long in small aquarium.

They need space otherwise will feel tension.

The ones you see in shopping center, 2 fishes stall, IMO

it's a waste of money.

i went to the aquaria shop to ask today ... they asked me to throw away whichever fish that has rotten tail coz it's contagious - will spread to other fishes. Then asked me to put "yellow powder" (medicine) and observe for 3 days.

Aiyo... so cruel?
Why throw away the fish?
If I am not mistaken, you put the yellow powder and the fish will be cured.
There is also a liquid medication that you put into the water to stop fin rot.
