Sorry guys... but i am not sure where to put this topic!! if i am wrong please forgive me...

OK i got this issue with this computer shop at lowyat. I am not going to reveal the shop name yet. My Maxtor harddisk got burn when i on my computer. Don't ask me why and how cause i also not sure. So i went to try to warranty it. As I know the shop only give you warranty period of 1 year. But the maxtor give 3 years warranty. So the first time i went to the shop they told me to ownself send to maxtor. I called up maxtor and they say they won't entertain me. they only entertain distributors. They say that is better for me to send back to the place where i buy or to the distributor. So i call up the computer shop and they told me to bring it back.

The next day I bring it back. They check it and saw they burn mark. They told me that maxtor won't warranty me the harddisk. So basically the harddisk can throw liow.
So I am wondering whether is it true that my harddisk cannot be warranty any more. I bought the harddisk last year september. And because of a burn mark and i also donno what cause it and the harddisk go to waste like that.... kek sim man vmad.gif vmad.gif vmad.gif

so guys pls advise... thanks

because they are lazy to claim it for you since yours is already over 1 year coverage by them. thos fellars told is burn can't claim so they can make their job easier, coz u just gonna take their advice and go home.

usually when an item is more the 1 year warranty. The first year, the item is covered by the shop, which means you can send to them and they will settle for you for free..

from 2nd year onwards, they will charge you a small amount of $$, maybe RM40 to do such claims. If you do not wish to pay, then you just send them straight to distributors. I have been to a few distributors, seems most of them do entertaint end users.

try to get Seagate next time, you can go straight to the RMA centre in Subang to settle the claim. Is much faster and efficient.

One more thing, always ask who is the distributor when you buy an item which has more tha 1 year warranty. If possible get the distributor details as well.

But usually burnt marks drop under the category of hardware defect and Maxtor usually won't RMA it for you.

However, if Maxtor say they CAN, just send it up. Probably they'll replace a unit for you. tongue.gif Never try never know.
