because they are lazy to claim it for you since yours is already over 1 year coverage by them. thos fellars told is burn can't claim so they can make their job easier, coz u just gonna take their advice and go home.

usually when an item is more the 1 year warranty. The first year, the item is covered by the shop, which means you can send to them and they will settle for you for free..

from 2nd year onwards, they will charge you a small amount of $$, maybe RM40 to do such claims. If you do not wish to pay, then you just send them straight to distributors. I have been to a few distributors, seems most of them do entertaint end users.

try to get Seagate next time, you can go straight to the RMA centre in Subang to settle the claim. Is much faster and efficient.

One more thing, always ask who is the distributor when you buy an item which has more tha 1 year warranty. If possible get the distributor details as well.

But usually burnt marks drop under the category of hardware defect and Maxtor usually won't RMA it for you.

However, if Maxtor say they CAN, just send it up. Probably they'll replace a unit for you. tongue.gif Never try never know.
