From what I heard last week, PCSF is not EPF approved. Noticed the fund size is smaller compared to other funds too. The reason behind ? I do not know, I dont work in SC... my guess is could be partially cuz our government doesnt want too much of our funds go out of the country.

Fund managers showing interest again in Malaysia

NEW YORK: Malaysia is back on the radar of top foreign fund managers who have been impressed with the Government's pro-business approach, said Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop.

Despite the choices available to them in countries such as China and Vietnam, these fund managers did not want to miss out on Malaysia's potential, he said.

Nor Mohamed, who met 30 fund managers at an investment dialogue here organised by Goldman Sachs and CIMB, said he had the overwhelming feeling that US fund managers were a lot more interested in Malaysia now.

"There is a genuine interest. They have been monitoring us for a long time. They are fully aware of the developments in Malaysia and they are making the decision to come in now.

"The response was beyond expectation."

Among the fund managers he met were those from Discovery Capital Management, UBS Wealth Management & Business Banking Zurich, and Deutsche Asset Management.

Nor Mohamed said the fund managers had no major concerns about Malaysia.

"They are basically quite happy with what we are doing, eager to know whether we will proceed with our plans to transform our economy to one that is knowledge-based and innovation-based," he added.

He also found that there was great interest among the fund managers in the Iskandar Development Region (IDR) project which is targeting US$40bil (RM144bil) in foreign investments.

Nor Mohamed is here on a three-day visit. Besides meeting ratings agencies, he opened the CIMB branch here on Friday.

CIMB is Malaysia's second banking group after Maybank to set up shop in New York.

I think the EPF does not approve the buying new fund (PCSF) because 1st, the government really want to keep the money in our country. 2nd, which I think is the most likely factor, the EPF does not have sufficient liquidity to accomodate the EPF withdrawer after retirement and for investment purpose.
Btw, it is confirm that the new PCSF cannot be bought using EPF withdrawal during initial offer period.

Sorry for the mistake i made, the 1st point is I took from someone in previous post...
That's why I think 2nd point is the main cause of what the government encounter. They are short of money(maybe), they have a lot of projects kicking start, EPF already inversting a lot in other region or sectors.

Actually one of the UT company got approval to sell foreign fund using EPF last year and soon after that, many company also requested. Most foreign fund are managed by other non-Malaysian fund manager and should they collapse or run away, then they cannot be accounted for. That is why EPF scrapped this scheme.

According to the Prospectus, there is no state about EPF can't be withdrawn to buy PCSF. So weird, why so many people saying can't use EPF to buy PCSF...is it only PCSF or any other funds also EPF won't approve?

Any official announcement for this? (Earlier, Darkmage said can use EPF)

The prospectus does not state that EPF can be withdrawn to invest in PCSF too. Btw, a PM branch manager did told me that EPF cannot be withdrawn to invest in PCSF during initial offer period until 25 June 2007. After that, I am not sure. For the other funds, I think you still can call up your agent to finalize with you. It should be NO problem.

Maybe during the initial offer period of any new funds, one couldn't buy that new fund using EPF withdrawal scheme.

Just my guess, don't flame me.

Afraid that this fund might underperform like PGSF.
