diversification sounds like a good idea, but most of the global funds are heavily leaned on Asia, and Asia-Pacific region; not much funds outside this region

well, I guess better than just sticking to Malaysia, although local UT has got offshore exposure

btw, is it good to then invest in local UT instead of offshore UT in a bearish market since we have a low beta and high dividend yields, and switch when the markets turn bullish again? asking because i'm planning this strategy hmm.gif

china fund wah hmm.gif market seems to be a bit high to launch a fund now, the stocks they invest in would be relatively expensive, unless there is a correction in the near future

nowadays so many funds, especially equity funds - so difficult to choose rclxub.gif

Just hope China government can do something to pull down the bubble. As the market is too hot, once there is any bad rumuor, all the people will sell share like crazy, then the market sure collapses.
*
rumour has it if the latest effort fails, then they might really impose a capital gains tax!

If impose a capital gains tax, and the rate is high...it's really a bad news to the chinese investors smile.gif
Hope they won't impose on foreign fund managers, as Msia has 2 funds going to invest there.
*
that was what was said to have triggered the february sell-off in china; now if such a thing happens the effect might be greater as most stock markets are at all time highs and people are looking for a reason to sell

QUOTE(David83 @ Jun 10 2007, 08:25 AM)
Fund managers showing interest again in Malaysia

NEW YORK: Malaysia is back on the radar of top foreign fund managers who have been impressed with the Government's pro-business approach, said Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop.

Despite the choices available to them in countries such as China and Vietnam, these fund managers did not want to miss out on Malaysia's potential, he said.

Nor Mohamed, who met 30 fund managers at an investment dialogue here organised by Goldman Sachs and CIMB, said he had the overwhelming feeling that US fund managers were a lot more interested in Malaysia now.

"There is a genuine interest. They have been monitoring us for a long time. They are fully aware of the developments in Malaysia and they are making the decision to come in now.

"The response was beyond expectation."

Among the fund managers he met were those from Discovery Capital Management, UBS Wealth Management & Business Banking Zurich, and Deutsche Asset Management.

Nor Mohamed said the fund managers had no major concerns about Malaysia.

"They are basically quite happy with what we are doing, eager to know whether we will proceed with our plans to transform our economy to one that is knowledge-based and innovation-based," he added.

He also found that there was great interest among the fund managers in the Iskandar Development Region (IDR) project which is targeting US$40bil (RM144bil) in foreign investments.

Nor Mohamed is here on a three-day visit. Besides meeting ratings agencies, he opened the CIMB branch here on Friday.

CIMB is Malaysia's second banking group after Maybank to set up shop in New York.

Sorry for the mistake i made, the 1st point is I took from someone in previous post...
That's why I think 2nd point is the main cause of what the government encounter. They are short of money(maybe), they have a lot of projects kicking start, EPF already inversting a lot in other region or sectors.
*
actually i think EPF needs money to fund the next GE tongue.gif

but it seems this is the first fund that EPF does not allow withdrawal for investing purposes...i also really like to know why...

Public Mutual's launch of the China fund seems a good bet for a good investment, but, hasnt it gone up too much already? With talks of China planning to raise interest rates and so on will dampen the equity market hence it will not perform as well as it has over the past 24 months.

*
i guess it depends how you would see the chinese markets in five to ten years time - if growth continues, it would definitely spillover to the equity markets and you will see handsome return; of course there will be ups and downs along the way but unit trust investments are after all, for the long-term

If not mistaken, the reinvest will use the 'seller' price to buy the new unit, not its NAV or buying price so there is a 5%-6% disparity *entry charge between them.

Correct me if I am wrong.
*
reinvestment is always at NAV rclxms.gif

switching on the other hand maybe at NAV or selling proce; it varies with funds and UT companies

ohh....thats' a new thing to me. I never knew........kekekeke
thanks for sharing  smile.gif

Another stupid notion for debate from me.
Most of the time many UT companies will promote the new funds and most of the time when you look at it historically, you'll find that most new funds increased fantastically fast at initial stages.

I'm thinking whether or not it's because they're pushing the investment so hard, thus everyone is in the craze of purchasing and investing in it. The effect of this would obviously make the fund increased like mad.....do you think?! So that is my own reasoning why new funds are statistically performing much more better.

Someone correct me if my presumption is wrong.
*
it's because everybody is following the herd mentality - buy whatever is new, whatever is different - but the inflow of money creates problems for the fund manager too, meaning that they have to put the money to work immediately: and for equity funds, that may mean buying the shares at high prices which may backfire if market conditions take a turn for the worse

actually the 'stunning' performance of most funds currently is because of the bull market from August last year and nothing else: if you look at performance between 2001 till 2006, returns are averaging 8% per annum only; i shudder to think that if the global equity markets enter a bear phase lasting a few years tomorrow what the response of investors might be...

don't think the rise will be too great as the fund is probably not fully invested just yet...
