It’s very different from Sins of a Solar Empire. It’s not an RTS. It runs in real time but you pause and play more like a Paradox game. Battles are hands off affair, you can’t order ships to do specific things. Stellaris is what you call grand strategy. It is about the macro. You can form alliances and eventually a federation with other space faring species. And in a federation... which works like UN, you need to get support from all to declare war on another species. You can’t simply attack another alien civilization.
I really like it so far. Created my own empire that is focused on being pure science / engineering and military based. Learnt most of the basic mechanics within the hour. Only put in about 2-3 hours so far and am loving it. I've read on some reviews which mentions the sluggishness of the mid to late game stage. I'll decide for myself when I get there.
I've put in some time into the game and I personally feel that even though it is less confusing than Europa Universalis, it's still rather overwhelming.
this would be my first of paradox 4x game, havent played any of their 4x titles previously, i would say for newcomer, it is overwhelming and takes time to get use to. overall, I like it so far
Spiritualist is fun. Went and got PSI Jump Drives. Suddenly energy beings from other dimension invaded. Their fleets are like 17k and they expand so quickly.
Had to build a 40k doomstack of Battlecruisers.

just bought Stellaris today seeing that it has a 10% discount.. so curious to try it out. end up playing from 12am to 3am when I told myself earlier that I would be sleeping early lol
so glad that it's not as crazy complex as EU4.. so much easier on the learning curve. Felt more like a Civ game if you utilize and pause, slow, and fast speeds.
highly recommended game for space 4X lovers.. game is highly complex with many random events and discoveries too
in case you have doubts whether to buy the game or not:

Patch 1.2 makes some massive changes. In fact, it is changes to some core parts of the game. I take a look at some of the changes in my latest let's play episode.
Been playing this for a few months now, I think my fleets are not powderful enough to repel the Prethoryn Scourge. They just keep harassing the outer borders, pretty annoying lol. And the other civilizations are too stupid to realise that the Scourge is taking over half of the galaxy already.
I was getting pretty close to finishing my first game like late last year, but i ditched it because my fleet single handedly took down the crisis on my own and i messed around w one of the fallen empire just for the lulz, the difficulty was set at hard tho
The other awakened empire is admittedly no joke though
Planning to get back soon after i done installed a couple of mods that really spice up the game tbh and upping the difficulty for my next game, but until now still havent gotten around to it haha....attention already moved to new Civ VI come the new recent expansion
