Hi, planning to change a new laptop since my previous one died on me sad.gif

Anyways here are my requirements.

1. Budget friendly 1.5k and below
2. For everyday use (movies, youtube, documents)
3. casual gaming (dota 2, etc.)
4. engineering softwares (HYSYS, AutoCAD)

I'm just a normal guy with day to day usage only. Only thing Im heavy on are movies.

Appreciate it if anyone could suggest me some affordable ones.

Been looking through:

ASUS X550DP ; Lenovo G40-45 ; HP 15-G201AX

Or are there better choices for me out there?

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you !

This model can work well. But you need a RAM upgrade to 8gb as the recommended ram for AutoCAD is 8gb. biggrin.gif

Evening guys,

Need your suggestion or opinion:

1. Preferred Brand : Dell
2. Budget : RM1.6k below
3. Usage : mostly work, browsing and no gaming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14

Was looking at :
1) Dell Inspiron 14 3451 (Pentium N3540)
2) Dell Inspiron 14 3000 (Pentium N3700)

Between the 2 which is a better processor ...

Thanks for your help.
*
N3540 has higher turbo clock speed and better overclocked clock speed.
N3700 is a newer processor that can support 3 displays (N3540 can only support 2). N3700 consumes less power.

Which processor should I go for if just work working & surfing Internet purpose. Given both are same price & spec wise. Thanks

If you do not work at home and want a longer battery life for your laptop, go for the N3700. If you don't move your laptop around one, go for N3540. biggrin.gif

Hi guys please help me to choose.
1) Brand - Any
2) Budget - RM4k less
3) Size - bigger better with FHD
4) Gaming and design
5) Preferred - i7

Contemplating between Y50 and G551/G552
*
Both notebooks look good, have great screens and high CPU and GPU performance. They are very similar in many aspects including build quality, design and specs. That being said, it doesn’t come as a surprise that most of the test and benchmark results were close to identical, even though Y50’s CPU has some throttling issues. We leave to you the decision which one comes out on top, or at least is better suited for you.

Hello there Sifu-sifu. Currently looking for a laptop recommendation for my GF. Can help me out please?

1. Preferred Brand - Dell, ASUS (But open to rest)
2. Budget - Preferably under RM2.5k
3. Usage - Has to be able to run Adobe Programs. Mostly watching movies and browsing the internet.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 11" - 13". She doesn't want something too big as she needs to carry it to class and back.

Thank you in advance! Have a nice day!
*
To run Adobe which software? Lightroom? Photoshop? Or just Adobe reader? You need a powerful processor and good ram to edit photos. And there's any powerful processor in smaller size laptop in 2.5k budget. biggrin.gif

Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. The minimum needed is at least an i5, correct?

Yes, at least an i5 with at least 8gb ram is recommended. Maybe you can consider these models. 14 inches though.

Hi, i am planning to buy a laptop at lowyat and would like to seek advice from all the sifus here  biggrin.gif

1. Preferred brand - any
2. Budget - 2.5k to 2.8k
3. Usage - mainly for gaming like fifa16 and movies at my hostel, but not looking for a gaming laptop with that budget, just something decent i guess
4. Preferred screen size - 14 to 15 inches, no specific requirements

thanks for any recommendation
*
If you are not in the urge to buy a new laptop, you can wait for another 1-2 months. There will be more release of new models with new processor. But if you wanna get it now, imho Dell Inspiron 14 7447 DOS is still the most reliable laptop with good specs you can get with 2.8k. thumbup.gif

erm dos means i have to buy windows on my own right?
*
Yes, you have to install the OS and all the drivers yourself. Much cheaper. But installing the correct driver might be tedious sometimes. If you feel like going for the DOS, you can always get the product key from garage sales. There are a few reliable and trusted dealer which sells it at RM60 only. thumbup.gif

can i ask the shop to do it for me perhaps? and what about lenovo's y40-80? i think jayacom is selling it at around 2.7k
*
Can, but that will definitely take time and very pricey. And if you buy the one that comes with OS, is almost the same price already. Anyway, Y40-80 comes with an i7 but a much weaker graphic card. GTX850M performs better than the Radeon R9 M275. More over, since you want a decent laptop, an i5-4200H has a higher clock speed and higher GPU clock speed than the i7-5500U. If you were to focus more on gaming, go for the Dell 7447. The onsite warranty is more reliable. But of course, the battery life in 7447 is much shorter than the Y40-80. biggrin.gif

Thanks DS_Legacy. Is there anything else that you would recommend? The dell Inspiron 14 goes for about 2.6k. That one slightly over budget, but I will still put into the list. Would like to get a few more options to consider.

Maybe you can check out these models. They should be more or less 2.5k. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(SuCro @ Sep 24 2015, 03:03 AM)
Hi guys. I really need your help and suggestion for a new laptop.

1. Preferred Brand:
Any will do. I dont really mind the brand as long as it fits my budget.

2. Budget:
Below 3k. My initial budget is 2.5k but i can stretch it to 2.9 or 3k if the laptop is really really worth it. Also, i dont mind if the laptop is free dos because i intend to clean install windows 10 on it. (Plus i can save couple hundred ringgit)

3. Usage:
Movie editing, work and casual gaming. I play a lot of games actually but i dont play the games in high quality settings. Almost all the games I played before are played on medium settings (even though i can run skyrim on ultra settings on my pc). I'm more to 'performance first' kind of guy i guess.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size:
I dont really mind 14 or 15 inch but if I have to choose, i prefer 14".
Side note: I already did some research based on my friends suggestion and I quite like these 2 laptops, Dell Inspiron 7447 and Lenovo Y40-80. But I'm not that familiar with cpu and gpu so i dont know how both of these laptops perform. Any 7447 or y40 user out there willing to share their experience?

Btw, i'm not finalizing my option to just these 2 laptops, so if you have other laptop that you think is better than these or a cheaper one that can outperform these 2, do let me know  biggrin.gif

This is my first laptop so im kind of nervous and scared if i might buy something that i might regret (you know that feeling)  icon_question.gif
*
Y40-80 comes with an i7 but a weaker graphic card. GTX850M performs better than the Radeon R9 M275. More over, 7447 is equipped with an i5-4200H has a higher clock speed and higher GPU clock speed than the i7-5500U. If you were to focus more on gaming and reliability, go for the Dell 7447. The onsite warranty is more reliable. But of course, the battery life in 7447 is much shorter than the Y40-80. The JBL speaker in Y40-80 is better than the 7447 one. And lastly, the Y40-80 has a better look than 7447 imho. Hope this helps. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(greenleafx @ Sep 24 2015, 04:06 PM)
Hey there, i just got bak from a short visit at lowyat.

I got some quotations for the dell inspiron 14 7447 and the asus k501lx-dm006h

The dell inspiron 14 7447 specs are i5-4210H, 4GB ram, GTX850M 4GB, 500GB HDD, Windows 8.1, 2 yrs warranty, selling for rm2869

The asus k501lx-dm006h specs are i5-5200U, 4GB ram, GTX950M 2GB, 1TB HDD, Windows 8.1, 2 yrs warranty, selling for around rm2800

The prices are of coz before nego-ing, dell's processor is better but its graphic card is weaker. Which one should i go for hmm?
*
Dell warranty more reliable. 7447 has less storage while K501LX has weaker processor. Actually there is not much difference between GTX950M and GTX850M. If you travel a lot with your laptop, go for the Asus K501LX. It has relatively longer battery life and lighter in term of weight. Moreover, K501LX has FHD. Although you can get more specs with Asus, it has one of the worst after sales service. So, think of your priority. biggrin.gif
