If you're on a budget, go for either SX or Yamaha Pacifica strats. Probably around the RM500 mark, but they are good......
Humbuckers are a must if you're playing punk..... but don't quote me on that. Also, you'll need a fairly powerful or dirty amp to play punk songs....... We ARE talking about Ramones, Sex Pistols style Punk rock and not the crappy Blink 1-8-suck right? |

oh btw, i forgot to state my budget. roughly around RM 1500 for guitar. and maybe another RM 500 for a practice amp. This post has been edited by Ryo: Nov 12 2006, 10:05 PM |

Well, these days, alot of punk rockers find that the Gibson Les Paul Special seems to be the weapon of choice. You can find the Epiphone version, but won't recommend that. The pickups just plain sucks...... something to keep in mind.
But for the price of a Squire, I would rather get a Yamaha Pacifica and put the left over cash in lets say a Vox AD30vt..... |

ibanez's SA series and the RG series have some good guitars with that budget of yours...price ranging from rm900+ to 1.5k...u can give it a try and see whether it fits ur style..
there're tons of amps out there for u to try and find the one that suit ur taste...the vox AD30vt stated by blacktrix is quite good...but i went for line6 spider 2...since i'm tight on my budget... |

I wasn't talking about the LP classic...... I'm talking about either the LP Special OR junior.
Heck, even the LP-100's Open-coil humbuckers suck.... |

Just wana tumpang here, where can I get the 'BEST' guitar string? Because my bf guitar strings broken out as he was not using it since last year. He went to UK to continue his lesson. So, I would like to buy the guitar string and help him to fix the guitar back. Anyway, its a santa cruz guitar.

Actually, at one point, lots of Epi LP came with Gibson USA stickers on the pickups. I think the marketing pitch was designed in the USA by Gibson.
Sorry to bust your bubble Sean but your Epi pickups are just that, Epi pickups. I hope you didn't pay extra for it because of the stickers. |

This is no "best" string..... what kind of player is he? And is this for an Acoustic or an Electric? There are so many variables.... too many to list down.
Back to the guitar pickups..... would suggest something Bright for the Les Paul special.... maybe Seymour live wires or something like that. This post has been edited by blacktrix: Nov 13 2006, 10:57 PM |

If he's a music student, then he should know what string HE likes. Again, strings are very subjective to the playing style and user's preference.
Case in point, my GHS Zakk Wylde Boomers. To me, I find this the best string for my guitar because the thickness adds to the tone. But some people finds the string too thick and actually hinders their playing. |

But if you're looking for a starting point, those are pretty much highly regarded and used. Hope this helps. |

I think if it's a semi-acoustic. I assume it's an acoustic with a pickup.....
For me, I would recommend Ernie Ball's acoustic slinky. Some people dislike the Slinkies, but I find 'em great for beginners because of it's "slinkiness" |

Strings being stell will rust no matter what, usually within three days due to exposure to moisture. Even the best of strings do that eventually. Just buy strings around the range of RM20 to RM30++ and they should be pretty decent.
After all, there are only like 4 strings manufacturer in the world. Most of the strings came from these same four factories. |

Dude, for vintage punk sound you gotta get p90's guitars. I love the Gibson that Carl from Libertines use, now that's punk. ah.. Libertines... where av they gone to..
I think the Les Paul Junior with a p90 pickup should do it! Nyum!!! same as that Greenday guy wossisname use. With punk its all about simplicity and some low slung, downstroking action!!! edit: here's a model i found on musician's friend ![]() This post has been edited by gizmoduck: Nov 14 2006, 03:51 PM |

Would recommend the Les Paul Special II and then save up cash for some P-90 pickups like Gizmoduck suggested.......
Or if you already have a cash..... go for a Gibson Les Paul Junior.... yes. GIBSON..... It's about 750USD.......... half the price of a full on Les Paul Standard. |

Wow.. Gibson are really squeezing us eh? USD 750!! Gawdang you Nashville factory workers!!!
Special II is a great option, but the problem is you won't hav the cavity to fit in a P90, which means u gona av o get the P-91s i.e. headaches. I checked out Musicianfrens (i no fren2 wit them tho) and the Epi Les Paul jr. costs USD99.99! not bad eh? i think the atual price is around USD199.99 though but whatever, it still wont be over RM1000 which is within ur budget innit? plus u still get the option to upgrade to a Gibson's p90 when you finally get your EPF money Shops that carry EPIPHONES??? Check the shop thread lorrrrrr.. Woh Fatt, Yamaha Subang Parade, that shop in MidValley can take direct orders from the epi supplier. Just flip thru the epi catalogue and start pointing haha This post has been edited by gizmoduck: Nov 14 2006, 07:29 PM |

Again.... this is just MY suggestion......
You can get ESP and D'Daddario strings from The Guitar Collection in Midvalley (the one above GSC). dunno if they would change your strings...... if they do, I think they will have to charge you. Ernie Ball slinkies can be bought from either that music shop in The Curve (top floor, near the pet shop) or Bentleys which is downtown, opposite KL plaza...... again..... don't know if they change the strings (they should), but they would take time to change them, so you might have to leave your guitar there then. Again, prices could range from RM20 right up to RM40 depending on the brand... and about re-stringing...... MOST shops should be able to do it for you..... just leave it there, buy the strings, take a walk around the complex then come back and collect it. EDIT: Are you changing just ONE string???? If you are, I think it's best if you buy a whole set and change them all..... your BF will find out anyway if he's a decent guitarist. Waaaaaah. so lucky.... GF also change his guitar strings....... well, i would suggest a 1958 gibson LP sunburst.
even if you were donald trump's son i doubt he'll buy one for you. but from the models you looked at, i guess your budget is not more than RM700. at that range, well obviously you dont read all posts in your own thread... |

RM1500?
then why are you even looking at the epi lp special II? your choices are even more now. even higher end corts are available, ibanez also with the SZ and artist series. if your willing to go singapore, you can get epi LP standards or even the SG models. as for the epi jr p90, i havent seen one here yet. |

epi LP jr!!! go Go go! ike ike ike!!!
haha you might wanna order that one from Singapore, Woh Fatass, or that Mid Valley shop. RM1500 is not reeeeally a guitar range price though. you might wanna look at it like this: 400-700 (squire, juniors,sx) 1200+/- (Squire standards, Yamahas? not sure about their prices) 2K +/- (epi les pauls etc) so add another RM500!!! forget the amp!! mwahahahahaha |
