Hi, so there's a problem with my friend's laptop unable to boot since it keeps getting bluescreen error right after the windows logo
Obviously the easiest method would be to just format it, I've tried installing windows using USB/DVD and both always gets stuck right before the initial setup
When I tried the same windows USB/DVD on a different pc/laptop, I can easily get to the setup process without any problems.

So my next step was to make the USB/DVD as boot priority, unfortunately the BIOS setup is protected with passcode.
Which sadly my friend was not aware of since the shop where he bought it from never mention anything about encrypted BIOS setup.
Anyway, based on this site

http://www.tech-faq.com/reset-dell-bios-password.html

I tried removing the CMOS battery and reinserting it again, but the passcode still remains there
Anyone else with similar laptop model managed to reset the system passcode?

What do they really need for proof?
He bought it 3 years ago from Lowyat plaza, obviously can't remember which shop anymore

Also, does the trick from this site still works for any dell laptop after 2011 models?

http://www.tech-faq.com/reset-dell-bios-password.html

I mean, is it even still relevant now?

when you removed the battery, did you power it on? and then shutdown and then placed back the battery and turn it back on again?

Clear CMOS cache by removing battery is an idea, but i don think it will works due to security concern. If any PC can remove the bios password by just remove the battery, than no point for the password lol

it was old method to clear cmos because the memory used was stored similar to ram, power gone = password gone, people seldomly put password on bios tho.. not sure if newer mobo have better memory ic that can keep the password..

Dell have recently added additional security to some of their laptop range - if you have somehow triggered this security you will have to contact Dell, and supply them with full details of the laptop, including serial and reference and full proof of purchase - they can then remove the password free of charge

The real problem was the shop selling this model never mention that the bios locked, they don't even give the password to my friend since he was never aware of it. I even checked the laptop box packaging and there was nothing on it.
As of now, I'm unable to install any os (even ubuntu) on this laptop.
Anyway, after numerous attempts contacting dell support, I finally got thru and they say they need at least 1-2 weeks to fix this.

You have several options:

1. Remove the CMOS battery

http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/...5/EN#Shortcut_3

2. Use the bios master password generator

http://bios-pw.org

3. Download the specific Dell bios master password generator and run it on another computer. Key in the bios checksum code that you get at the system disable screen.

Good luck!

Can't seem to find it on this laptop, even on the official dell page says that not all dell laptops are supported to use this method. I guess this laptop must be one of them.

Sorry to hear that. It worked for me last time.

I guess your only choice now is to go to Dell.
