I'm planing to get an e6300 with a DS3 motherboard. What is the best hsf for it?...some people claim that you can overclock these C2D's with just the stock fan...true?..i highly doubt it. shakehead.gif

I was thinking of a Thermaltake Blue Orb II.(will it fit into the DS3 mobo?) My budget is quite tight... <rm150.

Please help me guys. Thanks biggrin.gif

Since you stay in JB, u might as well head over to Spore...scythe cooler is quite popular there but u have to make sure your casing can accommodate this infinity or ninja

Singapore surely can get but all dam expensive la...exchange rate now is 2.3 sad.gif

I think i'll settle for a Hyper TX...if i can find it.

Btw, a Centurion 5 should be able to accomodate these coolers, right?

The Coolermaster Hyper TX design is almost the same as Thermaltake Silent Tower.....

i believe Silent Tower can perform better than this because there are definitely more fins than the TX and the surface area is bigger

I think u are better off with Scythe Ninja or Infinity since u can get these 2 coolers easily at bulk order, i myself using Ninja, very satisfied with it. The hyper TX won't beat Ninja or Infinity for sure, it's just build to be quiet and an adequate performer tongue.gif

around RM 110 if you get from Mika.
one thing you must know is that the surface area of the Silent Tower is definitely more than the TX for sure.

I can hit 3.2GHz at stock voltage and using a stock heatsink though, just that my crappy RAMs ain't stable...

At that point, my full load temp is about 64C only, how the hell they could get such a high temp at only 2.05GHz?

The mobo will increase the voltage itself if you set it at auto. You shouldn't have any problem hitting 2.8GHz at stock voltage (1.3250V). Try locking the voltage at 1.3250 and set your PCI-E frequency at stock (100MHz).

if u are capable, buy ninja becos many ppl using it, so assume it is a good cooler out there. Then take some AS5 as thermal paste. Well, ur gc temp is very high, u need to do something to ur casing.

Maybe you not apply the thermal paste correctly or maybe the HSF is not allocate correctly....could be many reason...my AMD Duron @ 1.2 GHz also got 62C during idle...currently using dunno what brand ceramic thermal paste I think...not really sure coz last time bought the mobo, proc, and ram from friends tongue.gif really need to do something to it...mmm...still waiting for moderno AS stock to come maybe 1 or 2 weeks later... cry.gif

The surface of Heat Sink and Processor IHS is not smooth as you seen with your eyes, I mean not 'rata' lar... the thermal paste is use to make both the heat sink surface and processor IHS surface contact better so that can transfer the heat from processor to heat sink better...sorry for cannot explain it well... blush.gif

I think that is the reason why your Processor temp can be that high compare to other...just my 2 cent lor... wink.gif

I can hit 3.2GHz at stock voltage and using a stock heatsink though, just that my crappy RAMs ain't stable...

At that point, my full load temp is about 64C only, how the hell they could get such a high temp at only 2.05GHz?

But mine load a 70c @ TAT ..... IS there something wrong with my e6300 ?

Are U using stock HSF?

If U overclock and using stock HSF, 70C @ TAT for C2D is normal...

For me,
I OC to 3.2GHz (running 24/7) with Ultra-120, double folding, Max temp around 53C..Before that I used XP-120, max temp around 62C.... rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Much better is abit of an overstatement really.
The Ultra-120 is only marginally better and it's rectangular shape means less flexibility in terms of mounting whereas the Ninja is a square which means you get your choice of fan mounting in any mobo regardless of socket orientation.

As for performance, the Infinity and HyperTX I daresay only excel under higher airflow conditions. Anywhere from medium to low, the Ninja is a more efficient cooler. And I'm not just saying that because I own one.

Should be better put toward the back fan (exhaust mah)...especially if it is a 12cm fan... it will pull out the hot air nicely from the case .....

usually i wont burden my PSU to do the job to reduce the chances of dust accumulating inside....

How can you install the GC in the most bottom slot?

You're using PCI-E right?

If you're using single PCI-E card, then that means you can only install the GC in the first slot liao... laugh.gif

That temp will not burn your hand...you will only feel warm or hot....

you can use better cooler and then apply as5 to it...the temp should be lower ... just my opinion... biggrin.gif

Another thing which may cause u not feeling the heatsink to be warm is because the contact between ur hsf and ur proc is bad. So, the proc will end up hot and not the hsf.

Just reinstall your heatsink with some thermal paste. Make sure this time that the heatsink sits on properly.

Hi...I juz been to my friend's house to see his C2D setup..Surprisingly his E6300 is cooler then mine by 5-10c..He said he apply a second layer of paste...Should I do that cuz I juz take the heatsink and put into the processer.

just a few reminder for you, make sure you compare the temp using the same software (suggest TAT), make sure the surrounding temp for yours and your fren's does not deviate too much, make sure his E6300 sits on DS3 not other mobo. as your HSF's ori thermal paste is new so i don think the temp will vary for 5~10. the most is 3~5.

Take out the heatsink, clean the old thermal paste, clean it with using Arctic Cleaner, apply a new thermal paste, then resit the heatsink properyly...

That should do it, don't overdo the thermal paste...

Make it in the middle, not too thick, not too thin... wink.gif

You can't get a heatsink that can cool you're E6300 in extreme if you're budget is around RM100...

The best is, max up you're budget to RM200...

Then, go get you'reself either this three heatsink:

1) Thermalright Ultra 120
2) Scythe Infinity
3) CoolerMaster Hyper TX

CoolerMaster Hyper TX is the cheapest from all those three options... wink.gif

This three heatsink are proven to be 3 of the best 3rd party heatsink in the market...

Don't buy it at Lowyat Plaza...

You'll be surprised that those heatsink in Lowyat Plaza is more then RM200...

Go to bulk section, and find someone that is doing bulk on one of the heatsink...

Price in those bulk section is much much cheaper than Lowyat Plaza... thumbup.gif

I compared with TAT...and he uses a cheep mobo...BTW i'll try reinstall the paste.
BTW ... Ultra-120 or infinity better if noise is not an issue !

If noise is not an issue, then, you can always choose what kind of fan u want to use on u're future heatsink... thumbup.gif

Let's say, u buy a Scythe Infinity heatsink, then use a Delta Tri Bladed fan, sure it will rock you're pc like hell... cheers.gif

Will cool down you're processor to the extreme, but beware of the noise...

U can say now that noise isn't an issue, but once u've feel the sweetness of silence pc, you'll fall in love with it for sure... wink.gif

Compare between Ultra-120 and Scythe Infinity on using wat kind of fan, U guys had to be very careful. Ultra-120 can basically use any 12cm fan with different thickness ( 25mm, 32mm, 38mm and so on) whilst scythe infinity can only use 25mm thickness fan. So Shawnty, Delta Tri bladed fan is 32mm, I dont think U can use it on Infinity unless U use other method to tie it up. Get yr fact rite ... wink.gif
In term of performance for both HSF, they are about the same. Marginally better toward ultra-120. But Ultra-120 had lighter weight, wider fan choice over infinity.
There is no clear winner among them... wink.gif

Taking out intel stock heatsink is much much easier than what you think... blush.gif

Apply the thermal paste on you're processor "IHS" <- [Integrated Heatspreader]
Hold you're processor in you're hand, you'll see at the top of you're processor, there's a metal part in silver colour, that's what we call as IHS...

And that's where you suppose to put a layer of thermal paste, not on the heatsink... laugh.gif

The one that has some writings of you're processor type, model, clock speed, and the L2 Cache...

Thanks for all those Informations.
But how bout my GPU ...now im very concerned on my Graphic Card.
It reached 80c. I tried to lower down the core/memory frequency to 266mhz.
The temp is still the same! sad.gif

Should i apply thermal paste? Air cooler or water cooler??

Guys, I need a bit help here. I also need a new CPU heatsink for my DS4 + LGA775. Price doesn't matter and I wan the heatsink to be

1) Full copper (yes, including the fin would be perfect)
2) Can do combo cooling like Gigabyte G-Power Pro/Lite can do. (this is important because if u know the design of DS4 it cools the mosfet and chipset down like 2~3 degree.)

google alot and so far i only see thermaltake typhoon series with the requirement i wan, but does not look very nice. donno bout the performance too. Hope to get something like G-Power Lite. And I believe the XP-90c does not cool the surrounding also, am i rite Mr. shawty?! unsure.gif

Err, what do you mean by that? sweat.gif

XP90C is just the same with XP120 [except the size] it'll blow the air direct to the motherboard, which means, it'll cool all the thing that is under the fins of the heatsink... wink.gif

Thermalright heatsinks that cools the surroundings are:

Thermalright SI120 - Full Aluminium
Thermalright XP90 - Full Aluminium, Copper Base
Thermalright XP90C - Full Copper
Thermalright XP120 - Full Aluminium, Copper Base

This heatsink's fins face towards the base of the motherboard, so it'll help to cool those parts that's near the heatsink width and length... smile.gif

Where to get XP90C?
Try asking from RLHH...

If don't have, then you have to fork some more money to buy it at Overclocking Paradise... laugh.gif

when i use OCCT 2 test the temp wont so high. if i use the iTAT put 100% workload then the temp boost up. think of getteing HR-01.

Old heatsinks doesn't meant that they don't perform well, it's still good enough if compared to those intel stock heatsink that is loud, noisy, and doesn't perform well... sweat.gif

But one thing for sure, if u're in russia, no need to use 3rd party heatsink liao, just use intel stock heatsink is enough aedi...

As the temperature in russia is under freezing temps...

Correct me if i'm wrong guys, as that what's i've heard... smile.gif

if it is c2d then mostly we refer to core temp and not cpu temp. but for other they are refering to cpu temp as other than c2d most of the proc don have the die sensor within the core.
budget way? alcohol wont cost u too much. RM10-RM20 can buy one small bottle d.

best hsf below RM200.. TT btvx, Infinity, xp120 etc perhaps.
