not all would like to spend few hungreds bucks more for 2 megapixels extra ;p
*
4mp but again i would spend an extra 200usd for that. iso 100 is tempting but again i dont think all the added features would be worth 200usd. if only they added a built in motor...

QUOTE(xyzpace @ Mar 29 2007, 11:45 AM)
true, that's what i'm thinking too.
i'm just a occasional type photo taking guy, no upgrades on lens and body, i was thinking to myself whether i need to spend more for 400d but maybe with 400d i can use it like forever. still thinking!!  Guys, wise decision?
*
if u're only going to do casual shooting, i suggest a d40 body only with 18-200. prolly wont need anything else.

Shinchan,
Nikon only give us warranty 1year, another 2yrs is by the shop one. I asked last time, they will charge 7-8% extra from the price.

RM 2388 for the price listed by fotokem is on the high $$ side. Maybe because of the warranty??
*
so shop send to where to repair?

i suggest u buy D400...
they give 55-200 lens too...if u were to get D40, u need to buy this lens too..after adding all the cost it will be almost the same price as D400...

so y dont u go for D400...and u can actually use forever;)
*
use it forever? hahaha.. digicams are like pcs and will become obselete one day, u're gonna want to upgrade it one day.

if you take a lot of outdoor shots, get a CPL. Cokin CIRCULAR POLARIZER
164?  drool.gif

i normally use A, manual sometimes......
*
i consider a cpl a must get thing unless u're like shinchan who shoots models only tongue.gif 164 for a Cokin cpl? it's pretty reasonable depending on the size. in fact, i see some nature shooters with the cpl on pretty much 24/7. it has become their uv filter shocking.gif

other filters to note:

nd filter
nd gradient

if u want a sharp picture throughout, shoot wide and use a small aperture. don't max it out though. after f22 o sth it gets softer.

@whois your daddy

oh..thought 164 was the price smile.gif

QUOTE(boonhoong @ Apr 4 2007, 10:02 AM)
Aside from the price perspective, I think the weight of the lens is an important point as well. I really don't want a heavy 0.5kg lens (18-200mm VR) on my camera all the time...

I am happy with the light weight of the D40 with kit lens at the moment tongue.gif

Added on April 4, 2007, 10:04 am

Thanks for the tips! I'm gonna have to read up on DOF and memorize hyperfocal distances. Can the chart be used as reference for the 18-55mm kit lens?

0.5kg is heavy? shocking.gif

nikon doesnt have international warranty...unless it is different in Asia. Other brands like Sigma and Tamron has 1 year international warranty + a few years local (North america) Sigma Canada offers 10 whopping years warranty  sweat.gif
*
10 years?! i'll be happy if any company in japan offers more than 1 sigh..
