The story behind that piece was really sorrowful. I think you could find it in Wikipedia. Wiki : Albinoni.

Ok here goes the story:

Albinoni was from a war torn country (can't remember which one Bosnia, Czech, one of those). He was a musician but in his country, there wasn't muych opportunity for music as the life span there was really short. People were hungry and impoverished. Therefore food was a priority.

One day, at the market quare, when the bakery was distributing food to the people in his area, the enemy started shelling (Mortar) the town, the crowd was quite big thus, many people were killed.

Albinoni's love for music made him took his cello (i think) and a chair, and he sat in the middle market square, amidst mortar fire, and played Adagio in G Minor. He channelled his sorrow and pain and suffering of his countrymen and his country into the song.

And miraculously, amidst the shelling, he was not hurt at all.
