if u use <700mb per month, then maybe

cos 2gb for rm48 can last 3 months

so rm16 for about 700 mb

like carry forward, use less this month next month get more

no need to active oso can surf

so if expire today, buy internet 2gb can use another 3 month for surfing only

but after finish got ppu

its normal for a new telco to share other telco network.
later they will be on their own network.

I've been using Altel for 2 months now and by far, it's good. Got 4G signal whenever available and 3G in city outskirt area.
Tested in rural area sometimes 2G and 3G.

Data speed, very smooth on 4G network, smooth but sometimes spike on 3G..

3 month validity for data is surely good for one who doesn't use data much on the road. (it also extends your call and sms period to data period)

There are two types of validity

Account validity and credit validity

Credit validity allows you to make calls and SMS

This is better known as top up validity

Account validity refers to how long your SIM card can last before expire

So if you top up rm 10 but buy 1gb data, you can only make calls for 20 days but you can online for 3 months

IMHO, 5 sen per MB ppu tariff is very reasonable. That's 10MB for 50 sen .... compared to the much outdated ppu for the big three which as of today is still 50 sen for 50KB. For intermittent usage throughout a month, 5 sen per MB can be cost effective.

Altel's data pricing is competitive for the smaller volume up to 2GB with 90days extended validity but not so much for bigger data volume. I'm on Altel for nearly a year and primarily use it for FAST downloads. Altel consistently gives fastest and stable downloads anytime of the day in my area (compared to the big three which I also have).

Like Celcom, we could login to their website to check.

Bought and try Altel since few days ago...

I found that it has 'big' block for calls and data, 60s per block for call, and 1MB per block for data.
which mean, calling just 1 second will cost you 16 sen,
turning on data to receive or send a whatapps text message will cost you 1MB...
Meaning to say, the 300MB given free data for activation is only worth 300 whatapps text messages...

I contacted Altel through their chat service, they said its my phone setting or background apps problem...

Anyone can check on this? or you have a different experience on their data usage?

as for call, its acceptable. if u want cheaper for short call then can get other telco line with 30s or less call block.

but for data, i think u phone setting got problem.
so far, i've no such issue of using 1mb just for 1 whatsapp messsage. Its much smaller than that.
better check ur phone data setting for any apps.

Nobody told you to turn off data immediately after sending a message. If you did not turn it off 300 message will roughly used about 2MB and of course you have to add on background app using data as well.

You are right, but charging 1 MB per block still kinda costly right, hopefully its just my phone setting problem, anyone know how to solve it...?

Charging 1MB is not costly for data hungry users but it is for frugal user. There's no better solution to this. Almost all of the MVNO used 1MB block for easier calculation and potentially reducing load from their server side.

By reloading rm50, we are getting 365d validity. The rm50 credit is good for 365d also rite?

Correct. The 365 days validity will be updated in less than 7 days (usually 2-3days) and the RM50 credit is still available until depleted.

Do i have to do anything after topping up rm50 or is it auto extended to 365d?

Coz when i browsed the menu to extend validity, it asks me to pay rm28.

1. Within 30 days of sim activation, perform a single RM50 (or above) topup
2. Wait for the validity to be automatically extended within 2-3 days.
3. No further topup required.
4. You will receive an sms message when the extended validity is updated.
5. Extension of validity starts from the day of the single RM50 topup.

Best of luck.

Altel has its own 4G network with their own equipment. While Celcom has 2G and 3G network. Both share their networks. So in this context, Celcom uses Altel's 4G while Altel uses Celcom's 2G and 3G

So technically, Altel is MNVO for 2G and 3G while MNO for 4G. Celcom meanwhile is opposite.

Not quite. Because Celcom is also expanding their own 4G. They are basically a partner when it comes to 4G.

both celcom & altel got their own 4G network .. but both line not cover up the whole area.
so in a place where there is is no altel 4G line, so can use celcom & vice versa.
this is smart partnership that can save cost a lot.

Actually, Altel has taken Celcom's bandwidth allocation rights. So in this case, Altel has 40 MHz of LTE spectrum and shares it with Celcom. Note: Celcom still doesn't have their own networks. They just collaborate with Altel. Celcom does the marketing, Altel does the network.

According to multiple sources including from SoyaCincau(http://www.soyacincau.com/tag/altel-4g-lte/):
QUOTE
Furthermore, both Altel and Celcom have also tied up to share their 2.6GHz LTE spectrum. Spectrum wise, Altel has a greater advantage with a huge 40MHz chunk while the other 8 companies are getting just 20MHz.

Edit:
Again, from thestar(http://www.thestar.com.my/business/busines...ectrum-sharing/):
QUOTE
It said on Thursday Celcom and Altel would pool their respective 2x 10MHz bandwidth of the LTE2600 MHz spectrum into a common pooled spectrum for their exclusive use.

QUOTE
Altel, which was awarded the 2 x 20 MHz of the LTE2600 MHz spectrum band, would also consider Celcom's request to use Altel's remaining 2 x 10MHz spectrum band.

Used Altel on my secondary phones and mom's phone. Good coverage and internet speed so far.

Pro:
-Can get long validity. First single topup rm50 after registered get 1 year. Additional year can buy at RM28/y
-1GB and 2GB plan has 90 days validity. Good for mom and makcik who only know use whatsapp.
-Top up rm30 get 300MB and top up rm50 get 500mb data.
-Lots of number cantik. Mine for eg is 011XXXX0001. I gave my mom with ending 8.

Cons:
-Inside building may have signal issue. Anyway that apply to all telco which did not have signal booster in building.
-No itemized bill (so far that I know). Their website did not have this.

I kamchong with the dealer and top up RM50 straight, there is no additional cost. If not you will need to pay RM30.

Some dealer may not have the numbers or sold out. But the one I went to has a lot of them.

So you will get free 1 year account validity since you top up RM50 straight, am I right?
So how for this network? Is it will receive message from Altel introduce 1 by 1 their products and services?
You can share to us if you feel it is any special things from other telco.

I use the new dg number, almost each day receive message from dg introduce their products and services, such as data plan, call RM1 IDD call free 300MB data quota (something like that).

Not everyday. Only once in a while like during merdeka day or malaysia day where it said, top up rm30 now and get 300mb data. Other than that none. Also I didn't receive any casino or gambling sms so far compared to my maxis or celcom number.

Of coz you won't receive gamble or casino sms as yours purely new number. Normally 011-1xxxxxxx is purely new number, not a recycle number. And sometimes the casino or gamble sms is not from maxis or celcom service provider, but in fact from 3rd party service or previously owner subscribe that info.

Currently, I m holding dg number confirm is recycle number. Coz receive msg from AIA insurance mentioned the premium amount haven't paid..

Correct. You are required to reload a total of RM30 within 6 months of subscription. If that condition is not met, the subscription will be canceled at the end of 6 months period and enters 50 days grace period (same as celcom's extended validity).

I think is their Data plan is not attractive one.. Got PPU after exceed quota.
I don't care about the postpaid.. Need follow up and pay bill every month.

What I see from Altel, they still don't have online selfcare... which can able to view the itemized statement.
This is really quite lack for this. If hv, I'm sure will try their service provider.

Yes, it is true.

After you purchase 365 days validity, you need to reload again at least RM30 within 6 months to qualify.
However if I m not wrong, please wait a message until they say "Please top up at least RM30 or above to stay active for 365 validity".. something like that.
