Christian Bale F-Bombs Terminator Set; "It Was Just a Moment," Asst. Director Says



Sounds like John Connor's biggest weapon is his mouth.

Christian Bale, ticked off at Terminator: Salvation's director of photography for interrupting what we're told was a very intense scene, ripped into the guy for about three and a half minutes, at one point telling him he was going to "kick his f---ing a--" and threatening to quit the set unless the man was fired.

"I want you off the set! You prick!" the 35-year-old actor yelled at D.P. Shane Hurlbut. "No, don't just be sorry! Think for one f---ing second! What the f--k are you doing? Are you professional or not?"

The rant, captured on tape a few months ago, continued in that vein for several minutes, with the F-word taking center stage.

But although Bale's behavior makes us think twice about taking tea with the Brit, let along working with him, Bruce Franklin, an assistant director and associate producer on the fourth Terminator film, tells E! News that Bale, a "consummate professional," just had a bad day.

"If you are working in a very intense scene and someone takes you out of your groove...but was the most emotional scene in the movie," said Franklin. "And for him to get stopped in the middle of it. He is very intensely involved in his character. He didn't walk around like that all day long. It was just a moment and it passed."

"This was my second movie with Christian and it has always been a good experience with him," added Franklin, who also worked with the actor on 2000's Shaft. "He is so dedicated to the craft. I think someone is begging to make some noise about this but I don't think it's fair. The art of acting is not paint by numbers, it's an art form. "

Reps for Bale and Hurlbut did not immediately return calls for comment.

Rumors of Bale's Terminator temper tantrum made the rounds last July when he was questioned by British authorities in connection with a public spat he had with his mom and sister. The Dark Knight star was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing.

New Terminator Salvation Photo Shows John Connor on the Hunt



I’m not exactly sure where this came from (likely a magazine scan?), but /Film reader Christopher M got his hands on another new photo of Christian Bale as John Connor in Terminator Salvation. It looks like Connor and a crew of survivors are traveling through an underwater bunker half-filled with water. I’m pretty sure this if from the same scene that is shown in the first teaser trailer with the cool shot of the T-100 series terminator rising out of the water in the background. Just a guess.

I feel for Christian. He takes acting very seriously (him in Machinist and 3:10 to Yuma) and is one of the best young actors around and when he tries to prepare for a scene and have it ruined by some idiot 'checking for the lights,' I feel for Christian. When the director says ACTION, you stay the f*** out of the set!

Why are some acting all high and mighty? Never lost your cool before? Never ranted at your friend or colleague? It passes. No need to make a big deal outta it. If anything I have even more respect for the guy. He really takes his work seriously

dude the guy even attacked his mom and sis with a tirade of verbal abuses for 4 hours, and had the cops dragged his ass to the station for questioning, u call that normal?

that was totally uncalled for imo. even though the DP screwed up, throwing such a huge tantrum and even threatening physical assault on the set was extremely unprofessional for him.

Dude he got sued by his mom and sis, there is no proof of any 4 hr verbal tirades. They didn't even press charges

Christian Bale Apologizes For Tirade



Christian Bale appeared on a radio show this morning and apologized for his outburst on the Terminator Salvation set. You can listen to the entire audioclip on TMZ, or read some of the highlights below:

“The thing I really want to stress is that I have NO confusion what-so-ever. I was out of order beyond belief. I acted like a punk. I regret that and there is nobody that has heard that tape that is hit harder by it than me. I make no excuses for it, it is inexcusable.”

“In [T2] you will meet Sarah Connor. And she is in an insane asylum—why is she there? Because she is crazy. Now I play John Connor her son, and on the day that all of this happened, the scene that we were doing, I was trying to show a little of that in-the-blood craziness, and it went a little wrong… I took it way too far, and I completely mixed up fact and fiction. I’m half John Connor, I’m half Christian there.”

“I’ve not only talked with [DP Shane Hurlbut], we’ve resolved this completely. That very day we kept working for a number of hours. Listen when I’m saying I’m not coming back on that set if he’s still hired, it’s hot air. I don’t believe that. I have no intention of getting anybody fired.”

“And another thing: a lot of people that I was a bully to this guy. That’s an insult to Shane. He is a big guy. I couldn’t have bullied that guy if I tried. He’s much bigger than me—he’s an ex-friggin football player.”

We hope that this will be our last post about this incident. Bale’s apology certainly puts a book end on the whole mess.
