Actually the timing of sunset similar to M'sia since located almost on the same longitude but different timing..If M'sia dark at 7:30pm (Normally is the case) so does Bangkok..dark at 6:30pm due to the time differences.  biggrin.gif

i still dont understand time zones..... the whole of china is one time zone loh. same as malaysia time.

oh well.

anywyas back to topic. melways is the best map. and its expensive too. so for all the students that are looking to buy it. if you can get a second hand one. or one from a year back or something you should be good. i think new one is near to AUD$40+ but the clearance from the previous year should be like 20-30. i got mine free from my cuz in melbourne. it was the 1997 edition doh.gif hahahaha. but still worked great. hardly any of the roads changed. so i dont think you should be too worried about forking out for the latest and greatest.

no, no, nothing like rape. and its not that girls don't go on sukhumvit at night, but when it gets dark on sukhumvit
almost every woman hanging around on sukhumvit is a 'working girl'

you could check it out, just don't wear a skirt if you're going in to soi 4 (nana tai), i've seen foreign guys lifting skirts
at random to check for 'quality'. it doesn't happen often, but it does happen especially at 12 - 2am when everyone is
a little drunk or high on kancha
*
really i never seen this. but i can imagine. i seen so many of the farang do crazy things. even the UGLIEST thai girls got some guy hitting on them. doh.gif

you can go to sukhumvit just dont look sleazy, although it would help having a guy around. tongue.gif otherwise they might be chatty with you.

i had a thai friend looked a bit slutty so embarrassing loh. the guards at the apartment always smiling at me like "you go get it man!" ehhhh. malu gile. ahhh thai and their booming sex trade.

i think its ok lah to do the wai thing. its like a handshake. some one put there hand out and you put yours out also right. heheh. but you dont have to do it all the time. like to waiters and all you dont need to . but to people like tourist guide and stuff you can because you will be spending time with them. up to you really. i doubt they will be like "he didnt wai me. imma gonna kick his a$$!"

some of the operator stand by ones are also by the meter. i always go all the way downstairs before looking for the taxi. there is one right outside. but those are the expensive ones i think.

Dun worry-lah, once u arrived, just check wth the info counter where to board the budget taxi rather than the expensive limo. Almost similar concept to KLIA & LCCT, those budget taxi located downstairs from the arrival hall (Can't remember which floor already & not at arrival hall area)

Normally those budget taxis are Bangkok taxis that fetching travellers to the airport & thereafter they wait for the que & I was told there is a surcharge or commission to be paid to the Airport authority (Can't remember how much but probably ~50bath. So they will bring u to your hotel using Meter (Yes) which will be around 250bath therafter they will charge u ~50bath airport commission & also the toll if u ask for tolled xpressway ..BTW, the Toll rate is not cheap in Bangkok...If I'm not mistaken I paid 2 tolls which totalled ~80bath to arrived at Bangkok jam free within 30min! So total taxi rate to downtown Bangkok ~RM38 (+ toll & also airport taxi commission)
*
yeah added all up its quite cheap actually. compared to malaysia taxi that costs rm50+ maybe to get home. the two tolls are i think 25baht and another is 40 baht. not sure though havent been to BKK in a while.

yeah i agree wit stimix. dont need to change. unless you plan to keep going back and forth from the hotel. otherwise it will just be two trips you gotta take one to go to BKK cbd and one to come back right?

i hate BKK traffic. last time i fell asleep on rama woke up still on rama doh.gif damn it all. i never seen a traffic light counter thing that goes up to 250 seconds hahahahah.

basically traffic is same time as malaysia. but might start a bit earlier. but on off peak hours you will still experience traffic jams. so be prepared to use the trains and such. and motocyke if you are daring enough ahhahaha.

Take it easy-lah...Although I know the location of that area but I personally (probably panda too) don't really been there b4...who knows, the traffics from RamKhaheang towards Bangkok is OK? - Probably u will consider paying for toll-way rather than congested streets. I took toll ways few times already in BKK..so far not really jam until reaching the sumkhumvit/On Nut area..
*
yeah toll way hardly has any traffic. its pretty decent. the only time you will hit traffic is after the last toll like what stimix said. when you hit sukhumvit. i never been that far out of BKK CBD because my sis apartment near Nana. the farthest ive gone is to the safari place hahahah.
as long as you are not travelling at peak hours. 7-8 & 530-630. the traffic is bearable. and if you get the nice taxi's then the trip is ok. sometimes you get the budget taxis that rattle and shake and are hot. thats when you start getting annoyed. hahaha. so choose cabs wisely.

hmmm. maybe he took you on a roundabout way. usually i take taxi from airport to nana station costs around 300-350 inclusive of the airport surcharge.

maybe he tampered with the metre.

i think sukhumvit and nana is ok for girls. just dont walk on the one street in nana. i forgot the name already. soi 4? or is if 5? i forgot. but thats where the redlight district is. i walk around other areas of nana and tourists all walkin around no problem.

patpong is probably a big no no at night.

its safe if you look like a tourist. just dont wear mini skirts or short shorts.

hey how much baht shud i change for a 5 day trip in bangkok?

and i also heard ppl say there the water very dirty and dunno got wat disease there can die 1 true or bluff 1? personally i dun believe la but they scare me..
*
depends on how much shopping you wanna do....
for me on days i dont shop much just go jalan jalan maybe like rm30-50 a day. hahah to go around in taxi and trains and eat food.
depends on where you eat of course. western food is mahal gile over there. i would say roughly rm60-80 per day is good for survival. and then add up shopping on top of that.

QUOTE(panasonic88 @ Feb 27 2009, 09:37 PM)
i changed RM1k...feels like not enough.

Hotel tour arrangement for sure more than the one u get outside or shop around. They earn commission as an agent to another bigger agency. There are travel agencies scattered around BKK, I heard the cheapest are at Khao San road. not far from Grand Palace. So u probably try there on you way to Grand Palace. From my past reading in Virtual tourist website, ppl saying u can bargain till 800bath/pax to goto floating market / Ayuthaya.  BTW, u should goto Floating market as well...something unique there although..yeah u probably seen it b4 in TV.. biggrin.gif
*
floating market is really cool. i never went early. so it wasnt so busy, but quite nice. my favorite is feeding the GIANT catfish. if its too crowded maybe you wont be able to feed them hmm.gif
