if i were to stay at pratunam area, is it convenient for me to travel to chatuchak and other tourist areas?

also, is pratunam located near to places like siam paragon and the city center?

am still deciding whether i should stay at pratunam, silom, khao san or sukhumvit area..

i would like to stay around the city center with convenient transportation provided..

please provide some suggestions regarding this.. thanks for your help!

Yes, if you go to get a cab yourself and not from the counter and go by meter. And no traffic jam. Keep in mind if you wanna take the highway (toll fees) or not.  Toll should come to about 80 baht max.

Don't remember if theres a double charge after midnight, but I think the initial fee goes up to 50 baht from 35. 

And agents always charge more for anything.  And in which case you might as well take the bus which is a fixed 150 baht per person.

Nope, you can also take a cab to the Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok, buy a bus ticket from there and be on your 2 hrs journey to Damnoen Saduak
When in Damnoen Saduak, you may bargain for cheaper entry rates prior to hopping onto a canal-friendly boat! Be careful though, not many Thais I've spoken to knows about the Southern Bus Terminal in English! You could ask the taxi drivers to take you to a place called, Sai Dai Mai which is Southern Bus Terminal in Thai.

If I'm not mistaken, it shouldn't be more than THB 2000 ( to and fro ).

Can take BTS to the nearest place to chinatown, then you walk la.

Forgot which station already.

Hehehe the train is better. I took both modes, train ( 2nd class ) and bus. While the train may not be as clean as second class trains in malaysia, it was still more comfortable than travelling by bus. They provide food & water for you to drink, the journey's faster too as opposed to taking the bus.

hahaha true but try going during the off peak season I was there at 930 and things were winding down
