I'm terrible at soldering.
been told it's better to buy new headphone.
is Superlux hd330 good for my basic rig?
*

You don't need soldering to remove/install op amp. Just need op amp extractor or something similar.

I turn it until number 3 and it already loud for my 50ohm cans. It can turn until number 9.

I don't have HD330 so not sure how the sound like. But this review say it is good.

Depends, if your current setup can't make the headphone loud enough then you need it.
But you haven't bought the headphone right? I suggest straight away buy higher level cans such as HD58X or HE-4XX and be done with it.
I got HD681. In term of sound quality I prefer HD681<HD668B<SHP9500<HE-4XX, that's how much difference it is. SHP9500 is very close to HE-4XX, but faster response of planar driver is what I preferred.

Btw you prefer the sound from your A3 or mobo soundcard?
A3 unfortunately does not have linear frequency response, high THD, and stereo crosstalk.
It will affect your amp and headphone sound output.

Your mobo using ALC892 chipset? This guy with X370 board say it is good
http://archimago.blogspot.com/2018/05/meas...i-plus-am4.html
But this guy with Z97 AR mobo say lots of interference, popping and all kinds of noise.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/6ti04...ards_alc892_vs/
I guess depends on each board design.

RM290 at Stars Picker (Kota Damansara). They are on Shopee too.

USD30 (inc. shipping) on drop/massdrop website.

In this case, I'd go for the latter if I were you.

I'm a Superlux HD330 owner here. This thing is 150ohms. No amp really make hamper its bass output and low volume. You need at least a cheap amp like a Fiio E10k also will do. Though bewarned, the stock earpad really crappy . It is cheaply made and too shallow for me. However, HD330 design share most of the stuff with Beyerdynamic DT770 ; earpads , headband can be interchangeable . So you can buy aftermarket earpad easily.

is Superlux HD330 far more neutral sounding than superlux hd681(filter mod + velour pad) and koss ksc75x?

I have not tried both the headphones you mentioned. I have no idea what kind of sound signature you are looking, but HD330 is very musical type of headphone, not for monitoring definitely. Slight V shaped sound signature . The only complain I have with this thing is I wish the bass is tighter, but since this is a semi open back headphone, I have to live with that compromise. Sound stage is above average though.
But then if your neutral sounding means you are looking for those studio monitoring headphone, then I will tell you to buy the Samson SR850 for roughly the amount of price as the HD330

Hundred twenty plus for Fiio A1, I think that's the cheapest for branded headphone amp.
XDUOO XQ-10 can be had for US Dollar 30 at Aliexpress.

If you want to try modding can do like me. I bought XU09 for like RM60, it's decent but not neutral. Bass were boosted. Then I bought Muses02 op-amp after hearing only good thing about it (RM15 x 2 since the XU09 is using dual op-amp) and replace the original op-amp. Now the sound is really great, can't hear difference compared to NX4 DSD in amp mode.

went with fiio A1.

Is there any place locally where I can buy Mayflower Arc Mk2 ?
I'm looking for USB DAC that can easily switch between headphones and speaker outputs.

Most DAC have a button or switch in front of the device to easily switch between headphones and RCA outputs.

Mk2 didn't notice where got sell, Mk1 got someone selling their used unit in Carousell.

Any particular reason you want that unit instead of any other locally available DAC?

For PC gaming community sure is Creative the most famous for it's DAC. Sound BlasterX G6 or the cheaper G5.
But if not mistaken don't have RCA output, only optical.
Asus Xonar also famous for PC.

If more towards audiophile and available locally then it's brand like iFi, Shiit, FiiO.

What amp do you recommend for Hifiman HE4XX or Sundara?

I am looking at locally available brands with warranties. Fiio is one that pops up all the time, but I am not sure which one I should get.

Ya, FiiO is well known brand and reasonable price.
Depends you want for desktop or portable dac/amp?
K5 Pro for desktop or Q1 Mark II for portable.

How do you feel Sundara sound compared to HE4XX?
