Surprisingly there isn't much rumours on new features for OS X 10.11.
What are the features you guys looking forward for Apple to include on the new OS?
*
Didn't you read...? 10.11 is rumored to focus more on stability and performance...

The only surprise I will find is that their programmers and engineers suck and 10.11 Death Valley will probably end up as bad as Yoshittingme...

Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11: All Features In One Place

QUOTE
Pinning Tabs in Safari

You can now pin browser tabs in Safari by simply dragging them to the left of the browser where they will be pinned. Opening any new link from within the pinned tab will open that link in a new tab.

Spotlight

Spotlight has been updated to search using more places, including weather and sports score. Spotlight can also be resized and moved to any part of the screen as well.

Full Screen View in Mail App

Users will now be able to access the Mail app in full-screen mode while allowing you to add tabs to a New Message windows.

Multiple Desktops

With multiple desktops, you will be able to give yourself more room to work with on your Mac. The Space Bar key is now at the helm of this seamless function.

Windows-Like Split View and Snap Feature

Two Windows can now be arranged side by side and the sizing of the windows will be done automatically. Similarly windows will display an MS Windows like snap behavior when user rearrange them.

Audio Button in Safari Address Bar

Like Chrome, Safari now displays an audio speaker icon in the address bar for any audio the webpage might be playing. Users can click the icon to mute the audio as well.

Natural-language Search Throughout the OS

Kind of like Siri, but written, this new feature allows you to make queries using natural language in the written form. For Example “How many unread emails do I have in June?”

New Gestures

A new gesture based system has been introduced somewhat similar to iOS. For example, using gestures users can quickly delete messages from the Mail app, without having to hunt for the delete button.

Performance

Apple says that OS X El Capitan is much faster than OS X Yosemite, and apparently it’s twice faster than Yosemite in switching apps, and about 1.4 times faster when launching new apps.

Metal

The technology that enhanced gaming development on the iOS platform, is now coming to Mac as well, promising a huge round of improvement for future games on the platform.

1) Performance improvement
2) Split view

Only things I look forward to. 1.4x would that be sufficient improvement? I hope to have more.

Surprisingly El Capitan performs really good compared to Yosemite
Im using it on my old Macbook Mid 2009. Which was quite surprising as it performed badly in Yosemite.

My MBP 2015 version suffers from UI lag in browser and some file scrolling too, despite the file is small.

Hope this update will resolve it all.

Yep. I returned my previous rMB because I couldn't downgrade it to Mavericks.
Yosemite is just horrendous.

But I don't think El Capitan is ready for public consumption yet. Plenty of bugs especially the UI. Still, I'll gladly take it over Yosemite any day.

Mission control, scrolling between spaces, preview is buttery smooth. However, resizing window, PDF in Safari is still pretty laggy. But definitely much more usable now.

All this is all possible due to Metal.

Apple's a little late to the game though because they were betting on OpenGL/OpenCL. Microsoft has been leveraging on DirectX since forever.

Not only I don't have that much cash to spare for a developer program (two third the cost of my white MB), while I haven't reach the legal age to sign up for one. Townshend sure has one dev account eh?

most annoying problem i encounter is my MBA didn't lock when i put it to sleep and calendar app crash.. others just minor problem (slow processing etc) which i can live with. Had to revert back because this is my primary machine.
I think better wait for more stable version maybe when PB3 release. smile.gif

That is quite a surprise. The official file size as what I can gather from apple.com and other beta testers are 6.06GB. This is probably due to the fact that we upgraded from beta 6 from the public preview. You must have downloaded straight from Yosemite or 10.11 older betas before beta 6? That might have caused the variation in my opinion. But shouldn't be an issue.

I am downloading Yosemite (10.10.5) for backup (unifi 20) but it is very slow. Over here I use Open DNS but it does not help. I think Apple server might be overload.

As for El Capitan, I have download developer GM via imzdl (*wink*). Fast download without using Apple server.

No worries, managed to clear off this error by depleting the battery to 0%, let it idle for 5 hours more and then continue to charge to 100%. Then poof, error gone. Must have gone wrong with the sensors.

I'm currently focused onto updating iTunes if there are any updates Apple is currently making on because there are some issues about syncing apps to the iDevices due to the introduction of App Thinning through iOS 9.

Downloading El Capitan now via unifi, estimate download about 1 hour 30 mins.

Funny last week, I download Yosemite, it estimate 3 - 4 days to download. I end up using VPN with shorten to 3 hours downloading time. Something must have clear up or fixed unifi. doh.gif

El Capitan feels snappier than Yosemite.

At least they fixed the lag when browsing large pdf files. Its not lagging anymore...almost buttery smooth!

Finally got El Capitan on my hackintosh! It works surprisingly well and slight noticeable speed bumps! rclxm9.gif

You're using the Core M Macbook right? How's the performance for casual surfing on Facebook and Youtube?

My mom is planning to redeem the Gold one from genting. I may ask her to get a Macbook Air top end model instead.

Core M is the problem. Meanwhile she doesnt need that much power, a Macbook Air has a Core i7, just in case she wants me to have it later on. A Macbook Air top end model gets you an i7, 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD and of course the 13" non retina screen. Meanwhile for thr same price, it gets your a 256GB SSD with the 1.2Ghz Core M configuration, value for money? Neh.

Hi Sifus,

Recently I noticed that I am getting green screen picture previews on my rMBP after updating to El Capitan.

When I click on a picture to preview it, for a brief moment I can see the picture, but it then turns green.

I noticed this problem for pictures I take using my Android phone and viewed on my rMBP.
Pictures that are taken at 4:3 dont have this problem, while pictures taken at 16:9 have this green screen problem

Anyone facing this issue? And how to overcome this?

Thanks

Upgraded my old mid 2010 MBP 13' to El Cap a couple of days ago. Started the upgrade process before I went to bed since I heard the download takes time. Imagine people around the all downloading at the same time. Apple servers must be under some strain!
Set up alarm after 4 hours to take a look at the progress, did a couple of password and then went back to bed.
All done in the morning. Noticeably faster on my old machine and thus far no issues. Had to re download a couple of programs, Dropbox, Google drive and OneNote but the MS office suite no issues.
Was on the verge of getting either a new MBPR or the new MacBook, but it now looks like I can afford to delay for another year. Waiting for the new Intel chip upgrade.

I upgraded by mid-2012 macbook air from Yosemite and pretty happy with El Capitan. Smoother graphics and screen transitions and i've seem to have lost the lag. Adobe docs with full graphics open and scroll extremely smoothly. Highly recommended upgrade. Manyak gembira

Specs:
Macbook air (11-inch mid-2012)
4GB RAM
SSD 120GB
CPU: 1.7GHz Intel Core i5
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536MB

Seriously? Are you sure?

From my very personal point of view, I think it makes my Mac bumpy. I also confirmed the bumpiness and bugs among my friends which are as below :-
1) Majority of my apps crashed and became unusable.
2) Mouse cursor frequently turns into color ball, which reflected its 'slowness' in doing the computing job, or another word its lagging. Its obviously noticeable from Safari usage when you have several tabs.
3) Bugs from apps. I don't wanna list all out, but Microsoft Office are the infamously affected one, which i assumed majority users already know about it.
4) Everything seems to be operating slower than ever, sometimes I'll have to relaunch or repeat my commands only to have it working.

Wait for a second, i thought El Capitan supposed to be a bug fixer which improve the Yosemite? No...?
What's all these issues means then, an improvement?

Just sharing my opinions, my bad experiences on current version of El Capitan. I don't think Apple have reached that level of acceptable stability when they launched this version.

Hi dude. i had my Mac Mini late 2012 installed from Mountain Lion to El Capitan. You need at least 8GB of ram for better operation. A dual core would do well on this. So far after 12 hours of usage, there were no hiccups.

You should hold back for now.

Macbook Book Pro 13" 2015

I would say El Capitan makes everything slower, not to say lag but it isn't that smooth compare to Yosemite.

Microsoft Outlook and Excel crashed. Adobe acrobat crashed.

Another thing, i was putting high hope on split view feature. After using it for awhile, realised this feature is so complicated comparing to Window 7 "split window"(which was not even a feature and simple to do it.) shakehead.gif

Seriously, what is apple doing !

Hi. I have accidently imported my iPhont photos to Photos on my mac multiple times. Now I have duplicates backup files. And my mac now have only 5gb of free space. (photos were only 12gb + my freespace was aroud 40gb).

How do I solve this? Can photos show duplicated items like iTunes? Can I find the imported photos files on my mac?

Then the final version. The bugs are either too small for to even notice them, or i just havent use it enough.

Alright, then i'll have to apologize as i first replied you in a very bad 'mindset' as i've misinterpreted your message.

I didn't use any Beta version before, as they're are way too unreliable for my daily usages, which is very critical to me and i really can't afford to lose anything or for anything to be screwed.

The official releases should not have major bugs issue like what i've mentioned in earlier post, and it can't really be compared with Beta version. Beta is Beta, its supposed to have bugs and be fixed before the official releases, which is where its called Beta.

Really big disappointment with Apple for this round of OSX release. They used to be doing way better than this, but these days they have shifted their main focus to other direction, for which, obviously we can see its the Apple Watch & iPhones.

The million dolar questions, Apple Watch & iPhones really way more important than their main, their core business - the Mac?

No worries. What bugs are you talking about actually. I think there're focusing on the iDevices because it is the CORE business. I would bet 80% who owns an iDevice do not even have a Mac.

iDevices are very profitable, which we can't deny, but it should be a ladder for Apple to gain more Mac users, not to shift the entire focus into iDevices. If Jobs still breathing, he'll be disappointed for what Apple have became today.

I can't just list all the bugs or instability that i've encounterd here just like that. Discovering smth new every day, from very minor stuffs to some major issues that really impacted my productivity.

If you are following closely on current Apple trend and/or smaller companies they acquired in recent years, they are kind of going the path to be Genesys, from that Terminator movie.

Just recently updated my MBP 13 retina to El Capitan, whenever i turn on my computer, i feel it takes longer than usual. Another thing i realized is that, sometimes my laptop suffers from lag when scrolling through web pages. Anyone else facing similar problem as mine?

Thought of downgrading back to Yosemite

Personally suggested don't update first at the moment, until the next patch is up.
Seriously, its very buggy. Those reviews above are true, and i said this based on personal experience.

El Capitan works wonders on my Mac Pro. Faced zero problems, even from Beta 1 to final release. Good OS all around, much better developed than Windows 10 final.

After google-ing , i found an easy fix

Try this bro, Go to Preview/Preferences/Images and select "size on screen equals size on printout". (The default setting -- "1 image pixel equals 1 screen pixel" -- can't render an image with big pixel dimensions on a small screen.)

It works 100%. I had the same problem similar to yours. Fixed it right away smile.gif

Guy, I am facing an issue with Safari, can anyone verify if they are experiencing it too?

When you Login to "Roundcube" (a web based email client mostly used by webmasters/office), try replying to an email. I am unable to scroll at the text area like how I used to in the previous version.

I tried using Chrome and it works perfectly, only happens with Safari.

Tried cleaning the cache and reseting safari but it doesn't work.

Can someone verify they have the same issue or how can I resolve this?

Guys, i find that the buggy or slowness of EC are mostly not encountered by rMBP users. Checked with few of my rMBP friends, its just smooth.

Mind if we disclosed what Mac we're using, and whether we did encounter bugs and significant slowness?

1) eikozai (MBA mid-2013 8GB RAM 1.7GHz i7) - Encountered a lot of minor bugs and lags, with certain apps crashed.

Check this thread out,
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3679608/+300

I try download it via VIP20 at office, it says it take 3 days. Later I try download via VPN, the total time taken is about 3 hours. This is done in the afternoon. My experience any download from Apple for iOS or Mac OS may be slow even though have higher speed unifi. I am using VIP10 at home, similar results.

I think you may want to try VPN or change DNS, it may help. Read the latest at above thread.

Open up ColorSync utility. And check on verify your profiles. Do you see any error with icc files and do not manage to repair those files? Please let me know. I think there are some bugs within El Capitan about ColorSync. Somehow the updated 2015 El Capitan files are without permission and can't be repaired even using root user.

Hi guys, i'm faced with a problem. after updating to el capitan, my macbook pro suddenly can't detect my external HDD. i've been using the external HDD since Mavericks > Yosemite. i've also check in finder>preference>show external hdd. go to disk utility I can see the external HDD but i can't mount it.

Anyone facing this issue? Can anyone point me the direction on how to solve this issue? i've search online for solutions but non of them work including the SMC reset. please help.

thanks.

Are you using version 14?

For El Capitan you need to use version 14 of Paragon NTFS.

I gotta say Apple did a good job in this latest updates, in fixing the minor bugs i've encountered before this. I'll continue to monitor if there are some other bugs that remained unfixed or new bugs surfaced.

Nope , it's not like in PlayStation 4, sleep in Mac won't continue downloads. I tried sleep mode, my download stopped and I had to redownload from scratch again.

What do you guys use to search for documents?

I find the build-in indexing Spotlight search is a bit of a retard (I'm being kind by saying a bit) compare to Lion. It's slower and always building indexes when I'm doing searching .

I have around 64 GB of free space . And sometimes, the file I search is not there the second time when I saw it was there the first time.

Well, I just update my office's iMac, you need to update to El Capitan 10.11.0 first (around 6GB) before 10.11.1 (another 1GB) and that's not including iTunes and other apps. And since there's gonna be another 10.11.2, I think u better find the time to update it. The later u wait, the much more updates gonna come out.

Seems like your El Capitan update resulted in CoreStorage Volume, btw I assumed you can still boot into the recovery mode by pressing the "Command + R" key during boot. The recovery partition was actually hidden in the Corestorage volume and you need a Core Storage revert by using the "Terminal".
Since your FileVault is "Off", launch "Terminal" and run this command line "diskutil cs revert /" (without the clauses) and make sure no other drives are attached before you do this. Close Terminal and reboot by holding the "Option/Alt" key to check whether you can see the Recovery partition now.

This is before I update. Meaning when I am on stocked Yosemite got my MacBook Pro 15-inch mid 2015.

I did install the bootcamp, since day 1 I start to use alt key to choose between Mac hd and bootcamp I have never seen that.

But I will try out your method, thanks for sharing.

El Capitan feels more refined, more tweaked towards performance. It's like iOS 8 to iOS 7.
It improves on the base design and added many new things. This OS is rock solid. Best I've used so far since Snow Leopard.

Use the same command line again, perhaps you need to manually install a Recovery El Capitan Partition.

upgraded to el capitan for second time (MBA 13 2012). not happy. battery drain. from 50-40-10-0 in lees than 1 hour. 10% to 0% in minutes. wifi slow. opening app slow. the rainbow circle keep circling. affecting other apps. slow login. slow here and there... etc etc etc... restore back to yosemite and all fast. i'll think i'll pass el-capitan.

Why don't you use Photos instead?

Based on that error, you do not own the iPhoto app. It usually happens if you bought a second hand device, because existing apps that available for you when you bought the device are tied to previous owner Apple ID. You can still continue to use the app without updating the app if I'm not mistaken.

When you first activated your macbook, which Apple ID did you use? Try check your purchase history on iTunes. If you owned the app, you will see the app in the list.

Whoah Sketch alone takes up about 10GB of RAM. Must have been handling a lot of processes at a time, but it doesn't look right. Maybe reinstall the app from scratch?

Try this

open terminal and type

open $TMPDIR../C/

then delete the com.apple.appstore folder

Just remain on the official Mac OS X version. Betas are betas for a purpose. For commercial use, it is best to stay on the latest official version, and hopefully Apple would fix the issues. Or if you would want to be adventurous, at least back up your current files and OS to a Time Machine, and then you can explore the worlds unknown with the beta. At least, if everything has ****ed up the drives, you could load your previous OS still. Just a few words of advice, from me who had previously messed up the installation from a drive without a back up during my early years and had to start from scratch.

Am still holding out on the upgrade to El-Capitan on my MacBook Pro.

Figured I don't really need the bells-and-whistles of it over Yosemite.

Seems that until today, not all bugs (including those app-specific ones which is up to the app developer to resolve) have been squashed yet.

The only thing that interests me on El-Capitan is the window-snapping feature. But I've already been using window-snapping since back in year 2009 using third party software. No biggie. cool.gif

I experience some apps having this issue, but after I download their latest update, it is fine.

So if you use some apps that does not having anymore update, it is time to look for alternative.

Ok this might sound silly. But can anyone help me make a Bootable USB OS X El Capitan installer on a 8GB stick and poslaju it to me?
I just replaced ssd hdisk. No other MBP or iMac lying around. Plus I'm nowhere near any Apple Authorized Service Provider cause of work. So I can't make my own bootable stick.
Will pay for it.
Anyone interested PM me.

Anyone on Mac OS Sierra beta? To be honest, after my experiences with Snow Leopard beta onwards to El Capitan beta, I wouldn't dare to go into the beta phase again with my Mac Pro, because it just stops working due to the OS not being identified by my essential applications. I'll just wait for the official release this time around, and will get my popcorns ready. Just too much hassle for a day to day use through my past experiences though. Do let me know how does the beta perform especially on the Mac Pro, and also how does Siri perform in a desktop environment?

Ill agree for us to wait.

If you do no have an extra Mac to use, its better to stick and wait for the official release.
Upgrading to a beta may make you lose all you stuff, so if you insist in upgrade , pls make sure you backup first

From the word "beta" itself, some hiccups and loopholes within the software are expected. I'm currently typing this post on a Retina MacBook Pro that is running on macOS X Sierra Beta 2. So far, it is more stable than the previous beta version. Perhaps stable enough to use as a daily driver.

That's mainly the reason why the standard user should not upgrade until the official version in my honest opinion. Unless those computer savvy types who are literate with coding and troubleshooting to help the developers should proceed. Best it to perform a Time Machine backup before anything. Losing years of work would definitely be a pain in the arse, for just being 'at the edge' for some people who wants to always be updated just because.
