Thanks for the tip... But how can this be done on a nuvi 310, with that short and stumpy little antenna?

Yups, like what deani said, the Malsingmaps are free to download but there is a need to contribute things like POI, tracks, etc. in order to be eligible for update d/ls...

If i'm not wrong, the last map that can be downloaded for "free" is the one for July 2007...

Hmmm, very affordable price... If i'm not wrong, this is even cheaper than that locally-made Gophers GPS, which is going for around M$800+...

Standalone in what sense? U mean a dedicated GPS sat-nav or a hybrid-phone?

Hmmm, from experience, i'd prefer to go for a standalone GPS... My unit is a Garmin nuvi 310 (which is a bit pricey, at M$1500) and i've loaded it with the ever reliable Malsingmaps...

Also, don't forget battery life... A standalone GPS unit has longer battery life than a phone with GPS features, and there is also less interruption while navigating (e.g. phone ringing while the GPS is active)...

Speaking of Malsingmaps, if you have a standalone GPS, you can download the latest free map from their site (i.e. without an unlock code)... This map is updated as at Jan 2008, FYI...
