Hi Pipedream and Baronic,

haha... I wish I can join u fellas too but drowning in work. *sigh*

And pipedream, the device is supposed to SAY "GPS is not functioning" literally. Not just show it on screen. If I'm not mistaken, for a successful 3D fix, it'll just show on the screen right.

No worries... u r on the right track. Give the device a little more time. Normally if u can get a 3D positioning, all ur settings are correct already. Just wait a little longer and ur GPS will start running.
*
u mean GPS is NOW functioning

lol. no problem. i think pipedream's GPS is functioning la, just gotta wait a bit. must do outdoors u know. right map loaded also.

I'm a heavy GPS user using P3600i. and i can personally vouch for its effectiveness. Even the P100 is not too bad, used it before too.

The onli GPS device u shud be worried about i believe is the N95. The suckiest GPS ever.

@maxzilly, the BT GPS will have a GPS chip yes, but necessarily a Sirf III chip.

if u buy a pda without GPS u have to install the SOFTWARE. u cant install the chip. Then u buy a BT GPS device which HAS the chip, u connect, and wala.

N95 has built in receiver already. just on should be able to work. but i have not used N95 before so cant say exactly, check maybe the settings are there any com ports to choose from and choose auto detect. erm....on your program go open area, see GPS status or something in your program, see if u can see a globe. There shud be several circles either red or blue with weird numbers. if got means its working and currently detecting sattelite. N95 is notorious for a damn long time taken for GPS to detect sattelite

tested out mapking yesterday.. sufficient for my uses.. but i've got some questions:

1) when we purchased the software, are we given the latest map ?
2) since there's official and unofficial maps, and im presuming im being given the official map, how would i know that the updates im about to give is not already in the unofficial map ?
3) i've been googling around and i saw maps that didnt finish with  " .m7a "  instead it's MalsingWM.G12 ... are those maps compatible ?
*
1) which mapking version are u buying? some versions once u buy u can use any map, some versions u buy the MAPS instead, so u pay per map
2) not quite sure what you're talking bout, refering to the malsingmaps?? do clarify
3) Again, two difference Mapking software. .m7a = Mapking 2007, .G12 = Mapking G12. For intents and purposes, they're the same, though the G12 version looks sleeker, and newer and cooler. IMO. And no, they're not cross compatible (if i'm right)

its up to u how often u wanna update the maps. for me i update the map maybe after 3-4 months, when i think there's possible some major road changes or something.

mapking and garmin are both good, just that Mapking got 3D. check em both out and see which u prefer.

the holux car charger? dun know what u talking about, if it can fit your pda's port, and if same voltage etc, i guess u cud do that

from what i can see, if u buy from their site, its 2007. but those bundled (as in officially bundled) normally they give u G.12. Again, like i said, their build is actually the same. different packaging thats all. so dun worry about "which is better". Same

be careful in KL though, where they're many flyovers crisscrossing each other. Because GPS accuracy 10 meters, u'll have some problem.

If your GPS directions seem to conflict with the signboard, follow the signboard, not GPS. at least u're heading in the right direction. If its not the way GPS shows, it can easily recalculate.

bottomline, u shud at least have a look at the map to know the GENERAL DIRECTION you're heading. I once wanted to go Shah Alam, ended up in Kajang. Old malsingmaps with garmin that time not updated enuf =.=
