if you want to enjoy the warcraft lore, questing, and just experience the game (at least once in a lifetime), it's a game i would highly recommend. but to find local buddies to stick together for end game content might be a tad difficult. most malaysians gamers (at least the one i know) are not too crazy on WOW anymore. after all the game peaked in 2011 like that.

Hi,

I start play wow around 3years++ ago (cataclysm expansion). never experience vanilla or tbc but for wotlk expansion i try play at private server. frustrating due to lag, bug and so on, i decide to roll on official server (oceanic).

1) It not too late but total players/subs declining nowadays due to less content.

2) Oceanic server where mostly malaysian players are there. Frostmourne, Nagrand, THaurrisan and so on. Just choose any but remember, some of these realm are 'connected' together and some are not. What I mean by connected realm refer here: http://wow.gamepedia.com/Connected_Realms

3) startup tips? level till max level and you will learn on your way there.

check my siggy btw! i can help you in your leveling process smile.gif

yeah but i can get that with privet servers but i did my homework i dont think it will matter much coz vanilla was the best coz it came out in 2006 but we dont have to go back to relive the past WOW is still pretty damn good game and i think even for late starter like me it will be fun

Just unsubbed... WoW is almost dead amongst Malaysians. The only thing to do is to level max and raid; and top tier raiding guilds are 99.9% Australians playing at Aussie hours.

Outside of raids, there's practically nothing else to do unless you want to play "farmville" garrisons. Can't say much about PvP though but none of the people I raid with do PvP legitly other than botting (and got banned subsequently).

If you can swallow the above problems, then you should roll either in Frostmourne or Barthilas. Other realms are dead or not happening enough to worth your time.

Most of the other people said is true, there has been a huge drop in Malaysian players since a few years ago. But I do not do hardcore raids (which I tried and it is very time consuming) so it is ok just to run LFR and see how the plot progress. Wow nowadays is very friendly to casual, although a casual will never get those hardcore gears that raiders will get, but it is possible to experience all the story without hardcore raiding.

If you want to experience the plot, you will mostly do this as a solo player. Almost none will bother to group up with you while you are leveling from level 1 to 100 via questing, because doing it solo is much faster. And it is going to take a long time to read all the quest descriptions and do all the quests. Most people nowadays just breeze through it by running random dungeon or random bg.

Once you reaches level 100, this is where you choose to either (1) run hardcore raids (2) run hardcore pvp (3) just play casually. Hard core raids means you will spend weeks trying to progress through the raids, upgrading your gears etc. Hard core pvp means you find a guild specialized in pvp and run and win arena/battlegrounds and upgrade your gears that way. Playing casual just mean you go around finish up whatever quests left behind, run LFR to see the raid progress plot, getting some minor gear upgrades while doing all this and generally just focus on experiencing the game. This might or might not be what you want.

It is always better to start in a FULL or HIGH population realm because it is easier to find group, buy/sell mats from auction house etc. It is better to start in PvP realm because PvP is one of the social aspect of the game that MMORPG shines. You will get attacked occassionally or even stalked, but it is not that bad really. If someone decide s to camp you then you can always switch to another toon and he will go away sooner or later. But you also get the opportunity to stalk other hapless newbies.

If you want fast leveling, do it this way. Level to 15, then start queuing random dungeon while still leveling via quest. Random dungeon nowadays is easy and other people usually comes with heirloom gears and is good enough to carry new people even if new people has no idea what to do. Completing random dungeon also awards gold and gear, and has much faster leveling speed than completing quests. It will be a breeze from level 15 to level 80, only then things will get tougher in relative term, then you can supplement the activities by doing more questing so that you have more up-to-date gears. Once you reaches level 90, if you continue to play the expansion, the easiest way to level is by doing quests.

Also queue for random battleground while you are leveling up. It is a fun way to pass the time as questing can feel repetitive after you have been doing it for a long time. PvP is a nice change of pace and it too can give you some experiences for leveling.

Mage and other dps focus class is a good starting point. If you want it easier than play a hunter or warlock, which is strong for solo play due to the presence of pet. Not advisable to play tank or healer when starting out as those will take some skills.
