In my opinion it is never too late because the current game design is being done in a way where it's easy for new comers to join and be at the same level with most people for a short period of time. Well that's your character's progression.

But when it comes to hype and the excitement of playing with many people around then it's not like how it used to be any more.

I still like the game but I only play around 2-3 times a week with an hour or 2 per session. Everyone's just waiting for the new PvP season and the new raid now.

PVP = opposing faction players can kill you in open world.
PVE = can't kill you unless you turn on your "pvp flag".

It is never too late to start WoW. The game changes drastically every expansion, so every expansion is like a brand new game in many aspects. They constantly refine the game every expansion by borrowing good features from other games and discarding the concepts that didn't work out well. There is a reason why the game is still around after 11 years.

What many people have said has some truth to it. What makes the game great isn't just the encounters and the lore, it is the people you play with. If you are more of a single player gamer, there are many games out there that may cater to you better.

The game is constantly fun for people who like to improve because most of the gameplay is easy to learn, but hard to master. For example, our damage dealers are constantly competing with each other to top the damage meters on the fights, which is followed by bragging rights at the following yum cha session.

That being said, guilds usually have 2 archetypes. You usually have the social guild where people just come to chat, players are usually not driven enough to progress very far in the end game. It is very common to see these guilds still struggling at the same 3 or 4 bosses even months into the launch of the raid. These guilds are usually held together by people who just want to do something together, chat, etc.

The polar opposite are progression guilds, which are usually held together by people who want to progress. This means that people are drawn to the guild for the common goal of killing bosses. These guilds will play extremely well, but it is common to see people being sat out if they underperform or make mistakes. If you are not at the top of your game, you basically don't have any place in these kinds of guilds as you would probably be sidelined or kept on the reserve bench.

Both have good and bad. Social guilds tend to die out when people get bored of doing the same bosses every week and getting stuck at the same place. Progression guilds tend to push content but the players within can come and go very fast. The best but also rarest type of guild is somewhere in between. A bunch of friends who also happen to be good at the game. They do not push content as fast as progression guilds, but they eventually make their way through the raid dungeons while being more social.

Anyway, at the end of my rant, time for some shameless advertisement. (WARNING)

I belong to a guild on the Saurfang-US realm (Keyboard Warrior). We are a bunch of Malaysians who have become real life friends over time. We have players who have played since vanilla and also newer players. We also make a point to have real life meetups instead of just in-game (just last friday we had a board games night). We are all working adults, but even with only 2 or 3 raid nights a week (wed, thur 9pm to 12am, sometimes sunday), we have still cleared the raid dungeon on heroic mode. (there is lfr, normal, heroic, and mythic difficulties).

Anyway, what I want to say is, if you are looking to get the most out of wow, you should try to find a balanced guild. If you are interested in joining us, add me on ff56k2#1792

/End shameless advertisement.

BTW, let me hijack this thread a bit... lazy to create my own.
I'm looking for casual guild atm, preferably weekend (Sunday).

Currently my Spriest (ilvl 701) is 9/10 Mythic and my Hunter alt (ilvl 693 just from doing pugs). I'm most prolly switching to hunter, so please let me know if you'd take me in

lol and i was thinking of returning to WoW after a 7 year hiatus. But then again, i used to play in private servers where guilds were not as strict/hardass as official servers.

btw used to play on an underpowered Dell notebook which pretty sucked some of the fun during that time, have now upgraded to a Macbook Pro 13" 2015, still not a gaming laptop performance wise still much better than my old Dell.

Anyone tried gaming WoW with the new Macbook Pro? Wondering how's the performance on this game.
