I start play wow around 3years++ ago (cataclysm expansion). never experience vanilla or tbc but for wotlk expansion i try play at private server. frustrating due to lag, bug and so on, i decide to roll on official server (oceanic).
1) It not too late but total players/subs declining nowadays due to less content.
2) Oceanic server where mostly malaysian players are there. Frostmourne, Nagrand, THaurrisan and so on. Just choose any but remember, some of these realm are 'connected' together and some are not. What I mean by connected realm refer here: http://wow.gamepedia.com/Connected_Realms
3) startup tips? level till max level and you will learn on your way there.
