QUOTE(atlantiz0 @ Jul 25 2013, 07:48 PM) How I succeed may not be applicable to you - as everyone has different backgrounds/experiences/study styles. Take what is worth though , if you like thanks for the tips..I started in Feb, reading through Schweser notes top to bottom in detail - done all the exercises of each topic included in Schweser notes. This process takes me 2 months. In April I was focusing on re-reading again the entire Schweser notes - but this time more like a speed read and I actually try to summarize/connects the important concepts of each study session in my head - only reviewing those that I could not remember well or unclear of. This is supplemented by Qbank extensively. I mostly only did intermediate and difficult questions (You can filter the questions by difficulty level,I did about 1000+ questions) and each question I did wrong was thoroughly reviewed (and revisit the entire concept, if necessary). 2 weeks before exam I focused on doing mocks exam and train up on speed of answering by mixing up the questions in Qbank (i.e. do not filter by study session). Two day before exam I chill the f*** up by exercising and sipping coffee in cafes, went hiking a nearby mountain in the morning. Last day I spent memorizing formulas/hardcore rules (like GAAP/IFRS differences) that's still not printed in my brain. I didn't - read CFAI textbook (too much things to absorb, too little time) - didn't do any EOC/blue box exercise - didn't join any study group/class. Study time - after reached home from work @ 9.30/10pm - I will probably study till 12 am or 1.30 am, depending on my mood and the interests on the topic ... Saturday full day at cafe/library/office and Sunday just chill - or study if I have the mood. By the way my background helps - I have a degree in Applied Maths - with most time of my honours year focusing on financial engineering. So - the L2 quant and derivatives topics are still pretty basic to me as I've done harder stuffs in uni. Being a little bit more math trained - I find picking up fixed income easy as well. I've spent most of my time then reviewing Equity valuation and Financial Reporting. (I did 0 reading in ethics. I just keep doing Qbanks question on ethics. By the way, I got <50% in this topic - so dont try this. lol) I believe I passed really marginally - and it's somehow foreshadowed by my study style - I possible took the bare minimal effort required to pass the exam, given my background. If you decided to only read whatever supplementary notes out there (be it Schweser or ELAN or whatever that is), be reminded they are all a skimmed version of the real text - so you have to read as if every sentence in the note is critical information. No shortcutting on the shortcutted materials. Remember that ... If there's tips I can give - it is this - try not to skip any topics/session. Try to know everything - and truly masters the 2 heavyweight topics - FRA and Equity. You will need to be very good in Quant, so that understanding Portfolio management becomes relatively easier - all the formula/methods become natural & logical with minimal memorization needed. congratz to all L3 passer, seriously , i m abit jelly right now as when i was taking L1 exam, you guys were L2 , 1 year later you guys passed L3 , fuuuu yet i just enrolled for L2 few days ago. so i just wasted usd150 for the useless e-curriculum, damn! should have listen/trust to/the forumers in analystforum, cause they provide a link to bypass e-curriculum and it allows candidate buy the printed version instead. And i heard the printed quality is quite poor compared to last year. |

And it's sponsored by JP Morgan. If you are looking for CFA curriculum (especially past year), please use google, believe you can find it there. Not going to teach you how as i m afraid will violate the rules. |

QUOTE(v1n0d @ Dec 15 2013, 05:29 PM) The number of candidates keep increasing yearly. Twenty years ago, a total of less than 50 candidates sat for levels I, II, and III combined. This year, almost 500 candidates took the exam in Malaysia alone. 500 for all 3 levels or level 1? anyone in noesis L2 intake? I m currently looking for friends/study group, class is huge, and i iz shy to make friends. do drop me a pm if interested. |

QUOTE(Dreamie_gal @ Mar 10 2014, 03:11 PM) Hi all... Hello,I've just registered for Dec 2014 Level 1 CFA. I did not buy the printed version. will rely mostly on Schweser Notes and plan to do plenty of MCQ practices. This is based on advice from my friend who had recently passed her level 1. Feel free to comment on this study plan. TQ! The ideal study plan is to finish the curriculum through ebook/printed, and then revise via Schweser notes. However, if you have long working hours (time constraint), then study through Schweser is your option. |

QUOTE(fino_abama @ Apr 30 2014, 01:06 PM) Normally the part at the back is the confusing ones (i.e. ABS, MBS). Are these the ones? Fixed Income is normally 5-15%. If you score <50% for FI you will have to make it up in the other sections. I wont find it confusing, is just that, the reading is difficult to understand properly ( maybe is a new thing to me). i can do the calculation part, but not the theory. I find it the LOS for fixed income mostly involves explain/describe/compare, very little on calculate. Hmmm... Maybe i should focus more on the notes instead of reading the textbook. So, so long you could cover other sections (Equity + FRA for instance , these are the heavy weight) it is ok/viable to ignore one of the topic, say fixed income or econs. |

QUOTE(vcheewei @ May 15 2014, 05:27 PM) My advice is not to skip fixed income, reason being, fixed income is one of the largest topics in CFA's exam, on top of that, you'll see it again in L3. huh? I find derivative is easy... piece of cake.. Try reading it over again if it helps, otherwise hit the practice questions to get a better understanding. If you think fixed income is confusing, derivatives will be even worse Not that confusing. This is weird, anyway, thanks for the advice. |

QUOTE(vcheewei @ May 20 2014, 09:57 PM) I'm only half way through my target amount of mocks, it's taking ages to go through them. How many mocks have you done? hey,wow... you started to do mock already? zomg!! i havent start any mock yet, because i still left 30% of equity, 40% of alternatve invest and 100% of fixed havent memorize/revise. How many no. of mock are you aiming ? Keep it up yo! my aim was to spent the last 1 week or 5 days to spam mock questions. haha, which means memorize/revise everything , latest by this saturday! QUOTE(vcheewei @ May 22 2014, 06:47 PM) You have to leave at least a month for mocks no? I usually learn and memorise when i do and review mocks. i guess everyone have their own method of studying? 1 week to work on your mocks is definitely not enough for me as I'm extremely slow anyway so need to start earlier. What level are u sitting this june? L2 this june, what about you? |

level 1 can self study if you graduate with finance degree (basically revising ur degree with a little bit twist), level 2 go for classes unless you are discipline and well, really smart.
btw, when i go for level 2 classes, i was surrounded by cgpa close to 4 student, or first class honour students, and i m just a 2nd lower student only. |
