Thanks Siew14! Do u still remember how much is the price? Is BA II Plus sufficient or do I need BA II Plus Professional?

Congratulations to all who have passed!

May I know did u guys self-study or attend classes?
Was thinking whether wanna sign up for classes with Noesis or not.[QUOTE]

no worries... less than rm200 if i m not mistaken... Either one will do... and of course professional ver is slightly expensive..

For level 1, self study is sufficient.... ( that is what most ppl will say ).

The ideal is first go through textbook then notes from third party... ( my point of view )

Passing rate for Level I and Level II is 38% and 42% respectively.

But seems quite a lot of ppl in this forum pass I and II, maybe it is just the "survivorship bias" that indicates only winners will speak up and losers weep without being noticed.

Anyway, congratulation to those who have passed the exam and keep up your work and for those who failed should not give up in the study.
*
memang survivorship bias... especially in the analystforum, when i waiting for the result to release, the one who posted in forum are the one who passed....

*

Done via master card smile.gif....guess my visa card not accepted. Just received my Paper I e-book for June 2013.

Need some advice here, is it necessary to take tuition for paper I. The purpose i plan to have exam in June 2013 is the allow me sufficient time for self-study.

Any successful candidates here have gone through Paper I without having tuition? thumbup.gif
*
no need tuition la... ues that money buy kaplan schweser notes is better imo.... my point of view la...

study textbook then notes (thats what i did )... or notes straight away if you dont have time....

level 2 onwards is better to tuition according to the forumers here... not sure as i havent take lv2...

1. Do you need 4 years of work experience to take Level II and Level III exam?

2. Once you get a degree, that means you can register for Level I, II and III exam even if you don't complete the work experience?
*
1. No. You need 4 years of work exp to become chartholder only after passing all 3 levels.

2. Yes. Also, if you are in final year or semester ( cant remember ) of your degree, you could only sit for level 1... lv 2 and 3 needs a degree..

Maybe you graduated from a top ranked overseas uni? I mean, the completion is there nowadays. Supply is so much more than demand now. Maybe CFA is only point that makes me stands out. The top ranked uni graduates are everywhere.
*
Yes, i do agree CFA will do make you stand out, but by a bit only... CFA is more recognized in equity research and portfolio management... other than that, so so only IMHO..... you try browse the website in CFA, they got a chart shows the chartholder's profession...

since u are second year, will suggest you try your best aim for first class honour instead of take CFA exam lv 1... I mean you could take CFA after you got your degree la.... Cause what i m worried is that , you will change your mind after you graduate as you know more about finance industry, or realized IB is not what you want ??? Or, because of CFA level 1, you cant cope up with uni work, and at the end, you may get lower cgpa and fail CFA level 1 also???

But it is good for you to ask and plan now... rclxms.gif

The book given by CFA once register for examination. Is it the books are textbook?
*
Yes, books given by CFA after registration is the textbook.... However, you could order from them without register the exam - i asked them before- But the textbook is quite costly as well, is like might as well pay a little bit to register for the exam.. tongue.gif

Hey guys, I'm actually contemplating in taking CFA. Would like to clarify this as I've done some research and it says that in order to get the CFA title you'll have to have 4 years of working experience.

Would like to ask is it similar to CPA as in where in terms of CPA, have 3 years work exp in auditing/accounting field or just in general 4 years in any line of work? Since CFA is 4 years, I'm assuming we must have 4 years of work exp in the financial field in order to achieve the CFA title?

This is because I'm actually getting contradicting information where some people have told me that it could be in any line of work, and some say it must be in the financial line.

Thanks in advance, cheers! smile.gif
*
for CFA exp, must something related to investment.... not just in general line.. you could check their cfa website for further details...

what i have in mind was so long you job scope is to assist ppl to make investment decision, then most likely you will qualified... such as equity analyst & fund manager... biggrin.gif

and yes, 4 years are needed.

have you read all over 60 pages of this CFA thread? it helps... also, try search cfa/equity research/investment banking in job careeer section, will give you a rough idea wat u wana be, and does CFA is the paper i wana pursue.. smile.gif

Also, anyone have any idea on the Schweser online study packages? They include video instruction in there too. Was wondering if anyone knows how's the teaching compared to the teaching in the centres around KL.
*
In lowyat means lowyat forum, garage sales or lowyat complex or wat? lol. Hope RM168 is not second hand.. hahaha...

-> "couldnt find any job in stockbroking/asset management industry with cfa lvl1", what so great with Level 1 that giving an illusion you will get a job in stockbroking/asset management? Any 'job' some more? Toilet cleaner? In my opinion, you don't know what you want, that is the problem why you can't get a 'job' in stockbroking/asset management.
*
i was aiming for entry position for ER, so with at least lvl1, it give u some edge compared to other candidates who doesnt have? especially those not from the industry itself and without cfa?

what i dont have is the pratical exp, have not pay any "tuition fees" yet, would like accumalate more knowledge (been reading lots of report) before paying "tuition fees" smile.gif indirectly, to pay less "tuition fees".

and since no reponse from boutique research house, my alternative will be looking for any jobs in the industry, to gain some knowledge whereas you cant as a retail investor... at least you're working in the industry, but different department...

you can turnaround and say, perhaps you cant sell yourself because ur resume & letter is piece of crap.. i would say why not we use this piece of crap to apply for other clerical or back office job in the industry while improving the content of the resume/letter? to improve the probability ?

QUOTE(kwh1989 @ May 14 2013, 09:41 AM)
the industry is so saturated with cfa holders+ candidates atm, cfa lvl 1 doesnt give you any edge at all.

I am only joining cfa because my company is sponsoring me to do it, even though they explicitly told me they don't treasure cfa holders as much as an experienced employer. They are sponsoring for the sake of utilizing the training budget allocated.
*
chartholder? REALLY? tongue.gif if you were saying lv 2 candidates, then i believe la... that is something new to me. and i do agree that malaysia doesnt value CFA that much compared to other countries.. haha..

so do how do you venture into the industry ?

ok this is new, i thought they sure caught you on the spot, instead of privately send you an email saying you are still writting despite time is over, and bla bla bla..

Can you please share more about this?

Hi guys,

Need some enlightenment and your kindest advice here.

I am currently pursuing ACCA and working in a big4. However, I realise that my interest in future career path is not in those jobs that manage accounts, bookkeeping etc but more into the path of Finance/treasury/investment bank. Hence, do you think I shall just straightaway enroll myself with CFA and skip the ACCA considering that I've just started ACCA and I've nothing to lose here?

Many thanks in advance
*
yeah you could, but cfa is not a golden ticket to investment field FYI. tongue.gif

but it will give you slight or abit advantage assuming all else equal.
