An F-16 jet from the Air National Guard has crashed near the town of Douglas, Arizona, the Air Force reported.

The accident happened around 8 pm, a spokesperson for the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base said.

It was not immediately clear whether the pilot of the jet survived.

A training plane of Bangladesh Air Force crashed into the sea Monday, leaving its pilot missing in the Bay of Bengal, officials say.

Wing Com. Noor-e Alam, Manager of Shah Amanat International Airport, said the F-7 trainer crashed soon after it took off from an air-base at Patenga, some 220 kilometres south-east of the capital Dhaka.

He said the aircraft was on regular training mission.

Alam said the Bangladesh Air Force and Navy had launched a search operation. (dpa/NAN)

An Afghan military helicopter has crashed in southern Kandahar province, sources said Monday.

The army helicopter with eight people on-board crashed Sunday afternoon in Garmawak area that lies between the districts of Maiwand and Ghorak, a security official told 1TV on condition of anonymity.

While the official said it was shot down by militants, the provincial governor’s office denied the crash and said it made emergency landing following technical problems.

The crash left three soldiers dead, three wounded and two missing, according to the security official.

Yosuf Ahmadi, a spokesman for Taliban, said the aircraft was shot down by the group’s fighters.

This is second incident of Afghan military copter crash in past one month.

An EMB 312 Tucano combat trainer aircraft of the Argentine Air Force crashed at noon yesterday.

The two crew did not survive the accident.

The Air Force has acknowledged that an MQ-1B Predator, lost March 17 during an intelligence flight over Syria, was shot down.

While Syria's official news agency at the time claimed the remotely piloted aircraft was shot down, U.S. Defense Department officials only would say the drone was lost, and didn't provide additional information because the incident was under investigation.

Also the problem is SAF is a conscript-based military. The core professional regular military force is relatively small (thus smaller female officer pool) in relation with the much larger conscript force, which itself does not conscript women (!).

ATM is in contrast a fully professional regular army which has a more open intake policy and more female officers (last time I heard was about 13,000-14,000 in all branches, correct me if I'm wrong), so there is more advancement opportunities for female officers.

SAN FRANCISCO – A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crashed at San Francisco International Airport Monday afternoon.

Airport spokesman Doug Yakel said the helicopter made “a hard landing” while landing at a U.S. Coast Guard base around 3 p.m. The helicopter ended up on its said.

The entire crew walked away uninjured, Yakel said.  The cause of the crash was not immediately available.

The base is on the far end of the airport, away from passengers and terminals.

An Indonsian Air Force Hercules C-130 plane crashed into a residential area in the town of Medan on Sumatra Island, killing all people on board.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – All 113 people aboard the Indonesian Hercules C-130 military transport airplane that crashed into a hotel and residential area earlier on Tuesday are dead, France Presse reported, citing the Indonesian Air Force commander.

The four-engine aircraft crashed in the southwestern part of North Sumatra approximately two minutes after takeoff from the Soewondo Air Force Base.

A military jet made an emergency landing at Midway Airport Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.

The U.S. Navy F-18 was headed to Virginia from an airshow in Wisconsin when the plane’s pilot requested an emergency landing in Chicago after experiencing an engine malfunction, military officials said.

A U.S. Navy Super Hornet landed on runway 4R of Chicago Midway International Airport on Jul .1 at around 12:35 p.m. after experiencing engine problem.

The jet from VFA-106 is also part of the airshow TAC DEMO Team and was returning to NAS Oceana from an airshow in Wisconsin.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested one gunman, following Tuesday morning's firefight in Pom Pom Island near Semporna.

Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) chief General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin said that police have also seized the pump boat in which the suspect and his accomplices were last seen in during the shooting incident.

"They were intercepted by police during the sea curfew and they did not stop when ordered to, so there was a shooting. Police have arrested one man and have found the boat.

"The rest are still being tracked down," he said.

Policemen in the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) were reportedly shot at twice by men in a pump boat the east coast of Pom Pom Island at about 3am, June 30 and returned fire.

Officers claimed the heard the sound of an engine fading away into the distance after the exchange of gunfire.

The intruders, believed to be cross-border criminals, were about 200m from the policemen and managed to flee from the area.

Esscom chief Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun said forces were still trying to ascertain the motive of the incident but said the men appeared to "not have good intentions"

Meanwhile, Gen Zulkifli said the army would be adding another sea base to the Esscom in the form of a mobile oil rig that will be retrofitted into a permanent base called the Tun Sharifah Rodziah.

It is being towed from Lumut and is expected to arrive in Labuan by mid-July. There it will be refurbished before becoming fully operational in Sabah waters in August.

It will join the Tun Azizan mobile sea base ship, which is based five nautical miles from southern Philippines, in stepping up security in the porous border.

"The will be used to intercept criminals that operate in our side of the border. When they go running back to the other side we can inform the sea bases that will deploy quick response forces to stop them," he said.
