Saudi air force pilot dies in helicopter crash QUOTE Saudi Arabia’s military blamed a “technical error” for a helicopter crash that killed a pilot during a training mission on Sunday.
The air force machine went down in the Taif area, more than 800 kilometers (500 miles) from the border with Yemen.
A defense ministry statement said the pilot was on a “routine training trip.”
Since March 26, a Saudi-led Arab air coalition has been bombing Iran-backed Houthi militia group in Yemen, while also assisting local anti-rebel forces on the ground.
Coalition helicopters have joined the fight.
In late August, two pilots died when a coalition Apache gunship crashed in Saudi Arabia’s Jazan district along the border. [sos]

More Details on the Starstreak dealQUOTE SHAH ALAM: More details have emerged of the Starstreak SAM deal which was signed in July at the current DSEI show in London.
It appears that we bought the same set-up as the Indonesian armed forces back in 2014, though it is likely that the numbers between the two services may vary. No word on the cost for the Malaysian deal however. The Indonesian one reportedly costs 100 million pounds or RM680 million. [MalaysianDefence]tldr; the starstreak system deal comprises the ForceSHIELD complete system same as the indonesian deal, number depends on contract

Commandos to be deployed onboard random cargo ships: MMEA MMEA Special Task And Rescue unitQUOTE KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) will deploy its commandos onboard government-linked companies' cargo vessels soon to deter piracy activities in Malaysian waters.
Maritime Criminal Investigation division director First Admiral Datuk Zulkifli Abu Bakar said the deployment of commandos from MMEA's Special Task and Rescue (Star) will be made based on threat assessment analysis.
"This initiative has been discussed with the management of GLC shipping companies, where they agreed to have our commandos onboard their randomly selected vessels.
"Each operation will involve a unit of at least four armed commandos," he said during a press conference at a hotel, here, earlier today. Zulkifli said they are in the final stage of planning and preparation, and the operation will start "very soon".
It was understood that the latest initiative was a part of the agency's plan in combating piracy activities in Malaysian territory following recent incidents which saw several cargo vessels, including GLC-owned MT Orkim Harmony, hijacked by pirates. [sos]
