A Peruvian air force plane crashed into a mountain in Lima’s southern district of Villa Maria del Triunfo yesterday afternoon, leaving two injured.

The Cessna T41 Mescalero model is a small aircraft used for training purposes. Reports say a dense fog hindered the pilots’ visibility before the plane crashed into the uninhabited Virgen de la Candelaria mountain.

The local firefighters chief said there were no roads leading to the top of the mountain where the plane crashed. The closest residents helped his team locate the aircraft.

“It was an aircraft for basic instruction,” said air force spokesman Eduardo Maravi. “Colonel Solari was highly trained. Both were on a training mission when the accident happened.”

A statement from the air force said the instructing pilot and student followed safety procedures which prevented third-party injuries or damage. The air force has launched an internal investigation into the cause of the crash.

Two F-16s from the 301st Fighter Wing collided after landing at Nellis Air Force Base on Aug. 15 at approximately 11:20 a.m. local time.

The unit, from Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas, is currently in Nellis to participate in RED FLAG 15-4 which starts today.

The two pilots are currently undergoing medical evaluation. A safety board will convene to investigate the incident.

Khartoum (AFP) - At least eight people were seriously injured Sunday when a helicopter from the UN-AN peacekeeping mission in Darfur made an emergency landing in the western Sudanese region, the mission said.

"A UNAMID helicopter, an Mi-8, carrying 18 passengers and three crew on board made an emergency landing approximately 100 metres" (yards) from the helipad at a base belonging to the mission at Saraf Omra in North Darfur, spokesman Ashraf Eissa told AFP.

All on board suffered "varying degrees of injuries as a result of the incident. Eight of them were reported to be seriously injured. No deaths were reported," Eissa said.

The passengers were receiving medical care at the Saraf Omra base, and the most seriously hurt were preparing to be evacuated, he said.

Passengers on board the helicopter included both Sudanese and foreign nationals travelling from the North Darfur state capital El Fasher, although no further details were given.

UNAMID said the cause of the accident at 12:30 pm (0930 GMT), was unknown and that it was investigating.

RABAT: A Moroccan air force Mirage F1 crashed in the northeast of the country Monday after hitting a flock of birds but the pilot managed to eject safely, a report citing the armed forces said.

The plane, which was on a training mission, came down near the Sidi Slimane air base and the pilot “is safe and sound”, the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces said in a statement quoted by the MAP news agency.

A “collision with a flock of large birds” as it was preparing to land caused the plane’s engine to die, the statement added.

There were no casualties from the crash which occurred in an uninhabited area.

The Mirage F1 is manufactured by French firm Dassault.

BEIJING (Kyodo) -- A Chinese military helicopter has crashed while attempting to land in a Beijing suburb during a drill for a large-scale celebration on Sept. 3 for the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, injuring several on board the aircraft, people familiar with the situation said Wednesday.

A strict gag order has been put in place within the military and Chinese authorities have ordered domestic news outlets not to report about the crash, which took place at about 3 p.m. Sunday at a military airport in Tongzhou district on the capital's eastern outskirts, according to the people who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Two pilots in the Saudi-led coalition were killed when their Apache helicopter came down on the border with Yemen on Friday, the coalition said.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the coalition said it was investigating the cause of the crash, which took place in Saudi Arabia's border province of Jizan.

Yemen's Saba news agency, run by the Houthi movement, said Houthi forces had shot down a Saudi Apache helicopter in Jizan.

The coalition named the two pilots as Ali Bin Mohammed Al Qarni and Nasser bin Mohammed Al Harthy.

SRINAGAR: A Mig-21 Bison aircraft of the IAF today crashed in the fields in Budgam district of Kashmir, with the pilot managing to eject safely.

The aircraft had taken off from Srinagar airfield and was on a "routine" training sortie.

Defence Spokesman Colonel S D Goswami told PTI that "A Mig-21 Bison of IAF crashed in Soibugh area of Budgam district at around 10.59 AM but there was no loss of life reported in the incident."

The pilot managed to eject from the plane "just in time" and he was retrieved from the crash scene by an army helicopter.

A court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the crash, the spokesman added.

A U.S. Army helicopter crash-landed here Monday, due to a failure in the tail rotor, but the accident involved no major casualties, authorities said.

A helicopter for the 24th Division of the U.S. Army made an emergency landing on a hillside in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, at around 11:40 a.m. with the two pilots showing no outward sign of injury.

When the rescue team arrived, the pilots, both of whom work for the U.S. Army, were waiting outside the aircraft for the rescue helicopter from U.S. Forces Korea to arrive, the officials said, adding the helicopter is also in generally good condition. (Yonhap)

A Lockheed CP-140 Aurora was damaged Thursday morning at 14 Wing Greenwood airbase during an attempted takeoff.

“The plane aborted takeoff, we’re not too sure why, and slid off the runway. It’s under investigation,” said airbase spokesman Sgt. Pete Nicholson.

The incident occurred at about 10:20 a.m. Environment Canada reported conditions for the base at the time as a thunderstorm with rain showers and a visibility of five kilometres, a dramatic drop from the 24 kilometres reported an hour earlier.

All 17 people on board were unharmed and the extent of the damage to the plane is also under investigation, said Nicholson.

The aircraft’s flight was part of its daily operations at the base.

The Royal Canadian Air Force commonly uses the Aurora for maritime patrol.
