I was looking thru one of the vendor in Malaysia (S***Sense) providing solution for lightning surge and I do see that they have RCD installation for heater (which is to be installed near to the heater unit). I therefore asked for a concealed solution and they told me that they can install something at a switch socket (as my house toilet are all with 15A socket point).

This is what the vendor showed me (I got the image online and get the exact match since I saw the Chinese word)

This is to replaced the normal socket outlet the center bottom is where the heater 3-core wiring goes in. This one triggers at 6ma at 0.025ms

As I later on did a search on the Chinese shopping website and find something nicer


As this one replace the double pole switch 20a, however it only triggers at 30ma at 0.025ms. I am just wondering if these devices are reliable and anyone tried it yet? I believe the socket type is tried otherwise why it can be found in Malaysia.

i'd never use any china made / brand electrical switches eventhough how beautiful they are

its potential electrical hazard. i'd not even use it as normal 13a plug, let alone handle a water heater current.

go for reputable brands like hager or clipsal

couldnt find any similar one from hager/clipsal/schneider..

This is the one that is on the vendor website. I asked my electrician if he can help install a junction box plus a RCD but he doesnt know anything about this thing... LoL...

So may I ask if I were to get a junction box, is it that the top left is live, right is neutral, bottom goes to heater wiring? The heater earth and the earth from db box just connect to the same screw holes?

Anyway, just found out that China standards are RCD only, no ELCB at all. Just wonder why Msia still sticks to it, should have forcefully by law change to RCD at 30ma.

This installation is very dangerous. The box elcb don't have water proof. It too near to the heater shower. Better don't install in this way.

Either fix it on top which water cannot spray on it. Or outside the bathroom.

Msia already have RCD long. Even internal heater is using RCD now.

This does look very dangerous. Potential electric shock.

Why is it that the developer is using ELCB?

I do see waterproof case in a shop.. so it is better I use the case n get my electrician to install?

So the installer in it is certified? How much do they charge? Engaged before?

What kind of installer can comeout such an idea that put a non waterproof ELCB so near to the shower. Crazy.

New house... in Nusajaya, Johor.

Print out the website from Enduser and show it to the developer. That is the TNB new rules.

My house already using RCD for over 10yrs.

If you look at the picture, top left, there is this water valve, and what happen if this water valve leak? water will go directly to the elcb. What a "Professional" installer. Behind the ELCB is water pipe, is also crazy.

Well, even if waterproof also, I don't think water and electric are meant to play together
