hi, guys..Need some opinion on MiBox Mini. I am thinking to get one but it does not comes with google play. Is it a must to root it in order to get google play working?

it looks like cctv5 or cctv5+ both also 中央电视台..a lot of android app can stream live... 电视家， 小薇直播，HDP直播 also can stream CCTV channels coz all are china apps, for football matches commentary are in mandarin.

I seen on youtube, they managed to get leanback launcher to work on Mibox 3 6th Gen. I am thinking if i should get the mibox now with Gitv or just wait for the US version where XiaoMi is going to released with Android TV stock ROM. I guess the hardware are going to be almost the same.

I am basically rooting for this version of MiBox. I currently owned a Nexus player, and this would be a good replacement or upgrade for my current Android TV. Hopefully can get it in Malaysia soon.

Basically the UI differs from even stock Android as its made for TV.
While for Playstore, the apps are limited to TV enabled apps mean most of the apps you want on your phone or tablet might not be available. Hhopefully more apps will make it to Android TV soon.

For instance, you do not have a FB for Android TV but you can still sideload any apks but it will not work correctly on TV as most of the interface will be horizontal coz you can't turn ur TV vertically.

But still there's plenty of apps available. I did install shafa guanjia and aptoide tv in my Nexus Player and installed lotsa china streaming apps and they worked fine. I mainly use it to stream china TV and playing some files from USB drives, so far so good.

I have also installed Iflix and Astro on The Go, working well and no issue with them.

Yeah, basically looking forward to the new MiBox with Android TV on it since no more Nexus Player.

Haha..According to news its soon. Latest news seems like pricing wise its going to be around USD100.
As SHIELD TV is USD199 and this mibox is considered only a middle range android TV device.

Just need to check on how to connect to a 3rd party gamepad, i got a bluetooth gamepad. But it doesn't seems to be able to pair with Gen 5 mibox, anyone know how to pair??

You mean the US version that Hugo Barra demonstrated during Google IO recently. Read some rumours that it will only be available in US by end of this year before the winter holidays. Not sure that XiaoMi is going to release the box earlier.

I think the latest would be Gen 6, white colour box. Ranging from RM250 - 300.
Depends on whether if you can get discounts from those e-commerce sites.

Any particular reason to change from Remix Mini to Mibox?
I think Remix OS is more like a PC OS and i think it's different from Mibox's GITV UI which is more suitable for TV usage.

FYI, Mibox 3 pro / enhance edition do support miracast. I am not sure about Air Play, do not own an Apple device.

I see, no choice then. I think Mibox 3 enhance edition (white colour) is a nice choice.
My friend is using it for streaming live tv and some china apps, so far no complain.

May be Android TV is not really ready for other markets as it's more to streaming for US based content. If you see the apps they pre-loaded in this version of Mibox.

I guess we will need to buy it online or something. Was just thinking to get another box beside my Nexus Player (already on Nougat). It's the same just that this mibox can play 4K. I guess this is the only pull for me.

It's quite expensive if you compare with retail price of USD69. Checked Ebay, but it seems that the cheapest is USD89.90 without shipping.

Install Shafa Guanjia, alot of free application. Including TV Streaming and Games but of course China TV channels mostly.
