Finally figured out how to force install mobile apps with Android TV version and it work great. Chrome working nicely with usb mouse and keyboard. I might just be able to dump my torrent pc once I can get respectable torrent speed out of this. Not sure if usb will work with this though. Also not too sure if this would be able to accept files bigger than 4GB.
Good for you!! Finally got Chrome to work, do share your torrent client app / setting if its working well. I think it should be okay as long as you keep the torrent downloading storage external.

What's the difference between normal and tv android?
*
FYI, Android TV more for TV optimization usage version of android from google itself.

Normal android in Mibox is the version that XiaoMi modified and branded it as GITV for their TV boxes.

Hmm..Differences? the UI is different lor..hence user experience is also different.

Congrats! Mine too, arrived last week (international version). A few observations/comments:

1. I noticed that the pre-installed VLC doesn't support multichannel audio DD or DTS. Only when I use Kodi, the DD/DTS are enabled. Anyone having this issue?

2. Google Play Store have region specific Apps (some which are not available here in the Malaysian store). You need a US-based Google Account to be able to download these apps (ie. SlingTV, Hulu, etc)
*
I dont think its due to US-Based google account, basically if you are being detected not in the US (geolocation) they would not allow those apps (i.e. for you due to rights issue), you can still sideloads the apps but to watch you need to VPN.

Hmmmm....I was as happy as you when I got mine to replace my nexus player as well...but I dunno why, I still stick to my Nexus Player now, maybe the update is slow and I am not really impressed dry.gif

the OS updates are slower? is it running Android 7 already? Any other drawbacks or benefits over Nexus Player? Appreciate for sharing in advance! wink.gif

just did some googling.. and realize that Nougat wasn't released for this box yet. what a bummer!  ranting.gif
I have an impression that it will be updated per the same schedule as Nexus Player. Makes me rethink my decision to buy it.. tongue.gif
*
Hmmm..how could i put it...you have experience Nexus Player (now on Android 7), when I moved back to Android 6 on this box just that the feeling is not that good as I have used Android 7 (maybe that's just me). I think is is one of the drawback, where a more recent box like this can't have an updated OS if compared to Nexus Player which is already >2 years old.

I bought this box thinking for it's ability to play 4K, but end of they day I realize that 1080p is pretty decent for me, so it's not much or a benefit for me at this point.

Anyway, it's not a Nexus / Pixel device, so it would not get exclusive software support directly from Google. Thus I don't think it will get updated on the same time as per Nexus Player.

Anyway, I think those APPs are not meant for our market hence it make no sense for Xiaomi to preload those apps, which will only cause potential problem with users complaining why this can't use that can't use. But you can use these apps via VPN (via download from Google Play or sideloading them to your box).

You're right. Perhaps the official Malaysian version (http://www.mi.com/my/mibox/) will not have SlingTV, Pandora and other US based apps in the recommender.
*
Yeah, perhaps. Mine is from Xiaomi Hong Kong, they have removed all those US based apps in the box (also will not appear on the Home Screen - Xiaomi recommendation).

thanks for the feedback! I'll reconsider. The main reason I'm replacing my Nexus Player is due to the original remote has broken, currently using the Xiaomi's Game Controller because I can't find a replacement remote.  doh.gif
*
I see...remote broken? you dropped it? I do understand how different it feels by using a Gamepad to navigate instead of a remote control.
Btw, Why not get an air mouse? I think it works like a remote.

my kids dropped it multiple times. I don't like using an air mouse. Gamepad is okay just a bit bulky. I'm supposed I'll go ahead and buy one Mi Box to try. Hopefully, they'll release Nougat soon.  thumbsup.gif

Have fun then!! Do share your thoughts once you get your box ya. happy.gif

Can you read chinese? If yes, please download the apk from shafa market (just google shafa market / 沙发管家).

Then copy is to a USB drive and browse to the apk using local file explorer and install the apk.

Shafa market can download and install directly right?
*
Yeah, you can but there are two version of it. TV version and mobile version, you'll need to download the TV version Shafa Market apk.
TV version of course is optimised for TV box use and its easy to navigate using a remote control.

I am not sure but dont seems to get much of HK and Korean stuff from Shafa. It's better to search for other sources.

those with Mi Box international/Malaysia version, do you have problem controlling using Google's own Android TV app (it's a remote control app for Android TV)? I don't have problem with my Nexus Player but with the Mi Box, I can't seem to connect on either iOS or Android even though it detects the Mi Box. The error shown is "Failed to connect"  cry.gif
*
No issue from my end as well, connected to my Mibox using the Android TV app.
Both my Nexus player and Mibox also no problem connecting to the remote control app.

Sorry, just to clarify. Does the TV box need to install the Google's Android TV app too? Or just need to install on my phone?
*
Nope, you just need to install the app to your phone / tablet and pair it with your Android TV Box.

Anyone know how to change home screen launcher instead of stock android tv launcher?
*
There are a few launchers that you install to replace leanback launcher.
Just google and there should be some but why want to change the home launcher? I think its very fluid and good.
